Title says it all. Empress is looking to expand their modern range (though with Asia Pacific "What if", not mid east conflicts) and they think KS will be the way to do it.

Though I'm pretty sure they'll be sticking with their choice of material (metal) so if you dont like metal, avert your gaze!

Well, now that another Salute! is behind us, it's time to reveal our next big project. We are aiming to run a Kickstarter project (www.kickstarter.com) within a few weeks in order to make a significant addition to our Modern Combat range of figures. As a 'young' company our resources are limited and, with the cost of development, we are prevented from adding to some of our ranges in a big way.

USMC with 'boonie' hat option

Our aim with the Modern figures is to add an entire 'theater' or theme to the range in one go. We could only dream of doing this normally, but with the help of Kickstarter we reckon that we are in with a good chance of making a really meaningful addition to this range.

USMC with helmet option

So whats the plan? We are focusing on the Asia-Pacific region for our new theme. As a result the Kickstarter will initially focus on the United States Marines (USMC) with both tropical and 'desert' equipment options (suitable for all theaters), with some rather nice extras such as New Zealand SAS. Should we be lucky enough to reach our modest target then we will focus on the PLA - the Chinese Army and the Australian Army. Sprinkled along the way will be lots of interesting extras and some figures exclusive to the Kickstarter.

Chinese PLA infantryman

We are going 'all-out' to produce the highest quality figures that we possible can for this, with extensive research and attention to detail to produce 'hi-res' figures worthy of your collection. Backers will find that this is a really excellent value Kickstarter, allowing you to obtain figures at greatly reduced prices - as well as being safe in the knowledge that you will be able to get an entire force complete with all of the expected support weapons etc. at once rather than waiting.

New Zealand SAS

We will be revealing more figures and information in the run-up to launch, with a new dedicated page soon to be added to the Empress Miniatures site. In the meantime we would value your opinions and feedback at this stage. It is important to tailor our Kickstarter campaign to suit the wishes of our customers, as well as helping ourselves expand this range, so your opinions are very welcome.

Really excited about this kick-starter.
I have bought their stuff before for FoF, and all I can say is that their standard is amazing.
The only problem I have with their stuff is the lack of facial detail, but this can be remedied with a bit of paint, so all in all not a big deal.
Their customer service is also top notch, when my package failed to show up on time, because of postal company delays, they sent me daily personal emails telling me about the progress of my order. When it did turn up (about 2 weeks late) they expressed their forgiveness for the delays, however, these delays were more than made up for by the quality of the mini's!!
I can't recommend their mini's and customer service highly enough, well worth the bargain prices IMO!!

These are pretty lovely-looking models. I don't have all that much interest in modern-era combat, but those are some solid minis.

I'm not really familiar with the company, any insight into the scale? Would they work as IG?

I've always likes Empress' stuff, though I hadn't gotten around to picking up any yet (need to finish my Eureka stuff first). I believe that it's truescale 28mm like Eureka's, so similar/the same to Mantic/Sedition Wars/Warlord Games stuff.

I'd happily use them as IG, but YMMV.

The scale is pretty good, not heroic scale but close enough.
Here is a scale pic for reference (I didn't have any IG on hand so I just used a Tau model and an infinity model for reference):

They are roughly the same size, in terms of height, however, they are far leaner and more realistic compared to GW's IG.

I'm really excited about this KS, I've bought Empresses minis before to use in my 28mm FoF games and they are without a doubt the best and more detailed modern miniatures out there!

Well it will be my first KS ever so it is a big thing for me!!!
All I can hope is that they do an Australian section for the KS, as the eureka miniatures are horrible, IMO, and are the only Aussie mini's on the market at the moment.

You'll be able to use miniatures of Aussie Soldiers as Kiwis pretty easily. Just paint them in DPM instead of DPCU. NZ use the Aussie-made F88 Austeyr variant designated IW Steyr for NZDF

My thought process reading the first post....

...with some rather nice extras such as New Zealand SAS.

Heh. I wonder if they'll make a model of Willie Apiata.

New Zealand SAS

People may think we're all Hobbits and beer, but we occasionally train up some tough-as-nails soldiers.

The real Willie Apiata:

It's a shame he's only an extra, but I'm hoping the rest of his squadmates are hiding in an unannounced Stretch Goal.

So he's real? When I was checking the minis in the first post I thought "Wow, this one looks badass. I like it a lot". This is fantastic

Really like the look of those minis, it would be an interesting IG army

Guys I currently have a funding in on the miniature kickstarter. I have not bought these before, depending on how things go I may go for some more of these miniatures.

I have one question concerning the defunct line - Battlefield Evolution - are these figures compatible in scale to the Emrpess line.

I hate that ruleset and most of the miniatures. I have a few squads I'm using for my modern rulesets. I can live with the tanks, the insurgent forces and the Chinese and British forces - I just hate the lack of U.S.Army. I plan to repaint these as the pre-paint jobs look worse than what I can do. I'd like to add in some of the Empress miniatures to fleshout my forces.

Thanks for any help that maybe provided.

I don't recall how big the Battlefield: Evolution minis were, but this pic might help if you have some Infinity or 40k minis to compare them to.

I currently do not have those line to compare with the empress. I'm away from my home for a bit - longer than the end of the KS. Thanks for offering - I did look at the pic. I've not seen any comparisons between MGP BE and/or Empress.

This is the closest I can find to other brands (I have none the others). http://www.mtswebsites.com/Figs/Figs.php

I found this as well but still no vertical side by side with Empress. http://www.displacedminiatures.com/strontygirl/image/2188/19911/

Also - side note on the figure - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willie_Apiata

Hi PanzerTC,
From the looks of the models you posted they probably won't match up with the Empress line of minis . It seems to me that those mini's are closer to 20mm scale (revision needed here), that will definitely cause headaches with regards to empress models, which are closer to 28mm heroic.
But not to worry, the beauty of FoF is that the game really changes depending on the scale that you play it at, so getting the Empress minis will take the game to another level with regards to the scale. There is also eureka miniatures that seem more in line to the scale that you posted, they could probably be used to flesh out your force.

Eureka minis are a bugger to get hold of here in the UK/EU which is why I plumped for the Empress stuff. I wasn't wildly enthusiastic about running FoF in 28mm scale as it makes getting hold of terrain and vehicles a bit more difficult than a smaller scale but the Empress stuff looks really good.

Empress also do a line of vehicles which are fairly good in quality and are also relatively cheap.
