So after a recent return to wargaming, I have a vanilla space marine chapter underway, an eldar army, a WFB orc and gobbo army, a high elf army, and a few bits and pieces. I have a mountain of plastic to get through. So why did I just order Dust Tactics, and two Infinity starters? Why am I trying to decide between the warmachine starter and hordes box? What the hell is wrong with me? And will it ever end?

You have hobby ADD.

Lock away your credit cards. Paint your current models.

If you have something you know you aren't going to play, sell it on ebay or craigslist to recoup some of your money.

Also, don't shop on ebay drunk. Trust me. It will cost you money. Lots of money.

I hope that helps.

Do what the kronk suggests, especially this part. I recently discovered alcohol and eBay to be a BAD mix.

4 boxes of terminators I have no memory of ordering.

I got a great deal, but still.

Be careful out there.

I once put a £6000 bid in on a boat when I was a bit rubbered. Fortunately I got outbid. It would have been tough explaining that one to the wife...

Im actually quite fond of drunken e-baying, but I tend to stay away from minis on it, after a couple of disappointing buys. Wayland Games is my drunken danger.

I have an enormous plastic bin full of sealed boxes of 40K and Fantasy stuff. Not to mention several army cases filled to capacity with partially assembled/assembled but 100% unpainted models. It will probably take me a couple of years to get through it all up to my standard. I have tons to do, yet I still browse eBay . . . LOL.

No. It never ends....

PM me on some infinity and I'll trade you some DUST guys.

I bought Malifaxu gangs, Dreadball and Batman Miniatures purely because I hated leaving the shop empty handed....
Still, they look nice on the shelf :-)

At least I'm amongst good company here I suppose. Loving some of the infinity minis, and the dust universe (and walkers) are pretty cool too. Not so fond of the warmachine stuff, but the game dynamic looks intriguing.

(Also been eyeing up malifaux, but don't know where to start with it, and x-wing)....

Eggs, don't get started on X-Wing.... Such a money sink! Got to have two huge squadrons - even though I never use more than 4 ships in a game ;-)

Ultimately, it ends when you choose to make it.

Well this sounds like a familiar story. I think I'm addicted to selling stuff on eBay though

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

minis are a funny thing. you spend all that money on them and all you get in return is the prospect of many weeks/months/years of detail driven labour.

Eh, don't feel too bad about it.

As long as funds balance out at the end of the month or when bills are due, and as long as all the financial priorities are dealt with, I don't think there's anything wrong with buying lots of stuff.

A lot of us are always in search of the new shiny.

A year or two ago I owned about three or four hardcover comic collections. This year.... they completely fill up two large Ikea bookshelves and have spilled into every other bookshelf and storage space I own.

Nevermind the minis....

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

I guess I should have added the disclaimer, "I have the same issue, and this is what I attribute to it?"

I have FoW, 4 different starter armies for Warmahordes, and 6 40k armies, at least 3000 points each (IG is probably 10k+ including FW stuff). My backlog for painting will probably take the rest of the year to finish if I work on it diligently (which I don't).

My comment was based entirely on personal experience and introspection.

You could always spend that money on stripper, hookers and blow. Or eating out/takeaway every night. or some other hobby that could easily be just as expensive (or way more expensive!)

As long as you're happy and not hurting anyone else, it's all good.

No void in my life. Just a much bigger disposable income than I had last time I was into the hobby, and a love of little soldiers.

I think the thing is, it's taking so long to get an army together for the gw games, I want to be playing something meantime, and both dust and infinity have drastically smaller model counts. As does warmahordes to a lesser extent.

There's no reason you can't do all.. I would probably get collecting and playing with the game that you can get you playing most quickly, and you can continue to build up the others in the meantime. I do try and limit myself to 2-3 systems at a time though, otherwise I think you can be spread too thinly (and.. also I think as a general rule it's probably not too healthy to do anything to excess).

Although of course if you aren't bothered about painting everything up then the mass battle systems become much less of a problem. I won't take a force to the table unless it's completely finished (with the odd exception of adding in an new model or 2) but understand that's not a task to be taken lightly..

Anime High School

I regret 40k as a whole, but more than anything, I regret wasting money on stupid crap I was never going to actually use. If I would have stuck with Chaos Marines, and bought nothing but Chaos Marines, I would have had a much bigger army, and possibly a more complete one. Plus, I could have saved money on paint.

Literally, mechrite red, scab red, red gore, blood red. Mithril Silver, chainmail, boltgun metal. Some slight scorpion green for eyes, skull white, chaos black, and a wash set. God, those were such good days.

One of the reasons I have multiple armies is that I get bored painting the same colours over and over. My marine army is by far the largest, but after a squad or two of mostly purple, its nice to have a change. I've being doing a unit or two of marines, unit or two of elves, unit or two of orcs and away to start a unit of eldar. Repeat. It seems to be working so far, and I'm not burning out despite spending a lot of time painting.

No it will never end. Never ever ever. I have 3 Darkage armys, 1 Skaven army and 3 semi started armys for WHFB, IG for 40 along with a load of SMs i was given, numerous ww2 tanks (mainly german) in a variety of scales, an entire 39 point Cryx army for WarmaHoardes and enough free-floating minatures to ensure i am ready for any RPG event, no matter what. And im after still more.

This will never end, which in a way is a good thing as they say if you should ever run out of models then you will either: die, become a Beiber fan, become a Brony (if not already so) or suffer another form of repungant fate.

I'm in the same boat generally. Went to a 'con this year and they didn't have any 40k stands like they normally do, so I spent all my money on starting FOW, lol.

It's much deeper than all that, but I consider myself a magpie when it comes to gaming/hobbies too. But, it helps to have someone to tell me that I can't use the CC's because she's hidden them.

And there's nothing wrong with you, and no, it doesn't stop.

You can control it, though. Buy one box at a time and assemble and paint them. But don't get me started on buying bitz to customize....
