The Golden Throne Grand Tournament will return to the Alameda County Fairgrounds on August 1-3, 2014!

The response to the Alameda Fairgrounds when we moved the event in 2013 was overwhelmingly positive, and we’ve partnered with their Fairgrounds’ fantastic staff to bring an even bigger and better event to Pleasanton in the summer of 2014.

We've got a full schedule of sit-and-go events on Friday, August 1, including our famous 40k Draft Tournaments!

The main event is on Saturday and Sunday, August 2-3, and is 2000pts with dual force organization and 40k approved Forge World allowed. Main event information can be found here!

Tickets are on sale now!

The Golden Throne GT Prime 2014 in Pleasanton will feature our first-ever schedule of hobby seminars! These seminars are exceptionally inexpensive, especially when you realize we don't require convention badges.

Here's the info currently available:

2000pt armies;
dual force organization allowed;
Forge World rules with the 40k Approved stamp allowed;
time limits of 3 hours per round;
tiered book scenarios;
three rounds per day;
players may register as a team to win additional prizes.

Main event tickets are now on sale through our website!

We've also just announced our partnership with Minx Miniatures Studio to bring a limited number of original Brother Marcus, Defender of the Throne models to the GTGT 2014! We'll announce exactly how to get one of these awesome models as soon as possible. We'll also be posting special work in progress shots and updates on the sculpt to our blog as the GTGT approaches!

Just wanted to post a quick note to let everyone know that, in addition to building a gigantic custom narrative board, a huge narrative army, and new and awesome terrain for the GTGT 2014, we're also currently finalizing our plans for the Golden Throne Grand Tournament Southern California. This is shaping up to be a banner year for West Coast 40k!

Definitely! The WaCon organizers are working out the dates now - looks like late September/early October.

On another note, the awesome folks over at Minx Miniatures Studio have officially begun sculpting Brother Marcus, Defender of the Throne - our exclusive Golden Throne GT model! We're working out the exact details on how to get your hands on this guy and should have an official announcement soon! Until then, enjoy this WIP photo:

We're working out the details with our preferred venue now. I'd expect to have everything nailed down and announced within a month or so. The SoCal GTGT will be later in the year than the GTGT in Pleasanton.

I had a great time at this event last year and highly recommend going to it!

Rob, are you allowing Lords of War? Or have you not decided yet?

We have a 3-round tournament on Friday called Total War that will allow EVERYTHING - 40k approved Forge World, Forge World Lords of War, Escalation, Stronghold Assault and digital products.

We're holding off on specific rules for the main event - aside from it being 2000pts, dual force org with 40k approved Forge World allowed - until we see what GW releases in May. I don't want to make a ruling one way or the other on Escalation six months prior to the GTGT only to have GW issue a new core rulebook with Escalation included four months prior to the GTGT.

Pacificon is about a month after the GTGT - why not go to both?

To mirror What Reece said, this event is one every one should try to get to! Good terrain, tables and smoothly run. Plus, Pleasanton is a very pretty and nice area. You can always come early or stay later and take the BART into SF for some site seeing (my wife and I visited Alcatraz and Muir woods he day before the event).

So yeah, there is a little bit here for everyone!

Thanks for the kind words!

Our venue also has a rockin' AC system that keeps the hall cool in the middle of summer.

At last year's GTGT I was strolling around the fairgrounds after finishing a round very early and I saw a picnic in the distance. I walked closer to it and I found myself face to face with two giant clowns, I guess, on stilts and wearing harlequin make-up. By itself, meeting the giant clowns might have been worth the price of admission.

I doubt they'll be back this year, though, so lucky thing that it was a great event by itself. I'm looking forward to going back.

Question: Will you be allowing Forge World army lists, such as the Death Korps, Corsairs, and Tyrant's Legion? Once FW units are allowed I don't understand the point of disallowing the army lists, but I understand that there is some trepidation.

I hadn't heard about the giant clowns last year - that's both awesome and somewhat disconcerting!

As far as Forge World army lists go, at this point it seems unlikely (though we haven't set the main event rules in stone yet) that we'll allow Forge World army lists. I do think we'll get to that point eventually, but there has to be a transition period -- right now we get a lot of questions about individual Forge World units, and couching those in familiar army lists seems to make accepting them easier for most players.

Anyway, yeah, I understand about the FW lists. Just means I'll probably be playing Ultramarines instead of Death Korps. This'll be a great event.

Wow, decisions, decisions. So many great events in such a small window/timeframe. It's either defending my title here at GTGT as former champ or going to the ATC to defend my team's titles there. Lol.

And then there's Nova right afterwards.

I think I am going to give the tournament in my own backyards the priority this time around.

Good, JIm, then we have to make it to the top table ourselves and see who is officially da champ!

It'll be awesome to see two former GTGT champs in the main event! I had high hopes for you last year, it was too bad you couldn't get out of work.

Not going to be easy with Reece, Frankie, Grant and others there.

Plus, I might not be bringing my Necrons. As a matter of fact, there's a good chance I may be bringing Tyranids so I think I just may be a longshot to make it to the Final table.

Yeah, I really wanted to attend but work commitments kept me out last year.

But at least I did get in 2 great games against Mortetvie and Frankie that weekend.

I think I out-cheesed Frankie's 6 ravager venom-spam list with my 6 annihilation barge Necron army.

Frankie's list was gross! I can't believe I beat him, by rights, he should have creamed me.

Plus, the Sac players, Lyzz, the South Bay guys, the North Bay guys, the Stockton crew, there will be some very good players there.

@Rob

Nice! I will definitely be playing in that Friday event, my Rev will continue his reign of terror! lol
