So, those of you who have purchased the new Codex: Astra Militarum will notice the loss of most of the old imperial guard officers, especially those without models, but some like al'Rahem, Chenkov, and even Marbo. Well, I've been told by a pretty darn reliable birdy that some supplements are in the works. I am not sure which ones will return, but I have been informed that something along the lines of codex: catachans is in the works. The big releases with these supplements is merely a rerelease of temporarily discontinued characters, but no new boxed sets. Oh, and aside from remaining legal due to forgeworld, don't look for a Medusa or bombard, not gonna happen.

I am not the least bit surprised by this.

I hate how "Astra Militarium" has the same acronym as "Adeptus Mechanicus". It's bothersome and causes disappointment every time.

I am surprised you reposted it here, seeing as how the poster in question basically has whiffed on his "reliable birdy". Poster has made predictions about a "Hardened Veteran sprue"(backtracking from originally saying that there were going to be "Kasrkin styled stormtrooper boxes...which obviously didn't happen) and some rumors about Knights as well that have not panned out.

It's a pretty safe bet that they'll do a Codex: Catachans. We're just hopeful they don't split it into Codex: Marbo and Codex: Harker.

This was always going to happen, you don't need insider knowledge to be all but certain that GW will be releasing a Catachan codex or something along those lines.

I doubt they'll miss out on all the money they would make with an "Artillery regiment" supplement. Too many people are annoyed that they took out so much of the arty in the first place.

Will be interesting to see if there will be a Cadian 8th and Catachan *insert number of Straken's regiment here* codex somewhere along the line.

While I imagine a Codex Catachans is entirely plausible, poster loses me when he says there are legal issues between GW and Forgeworld. They're different branches of the same company and essentially do what they feel like. It's like saying there were legal issues between the frozen foods and tinned aisles in a supermarket.

He didn't say there are legal issues, he said that the Medusa and Bombard would have current army list entries in Forgeworld books but not in GW books.

The future existence of a Cadian VIIIth supplement might go some way to explaining the goofy orange stripe paint scheme on the cadians in the main book. Unless somehow the orange stripe is copyrighted/trademarked/whatever the correct word is, you know what I mean.

Or like the case of Burger Flipper versus Do You Want Fries With That Guy, 2011. As I recall it brought down the fast food industry

Not the same regiment, the 8th has khaki uniforms and green armour, this new regiment is the 92nd according to White Dwarf Weekly issue 10.

Yeah, that was my point. They opted to put a different regiment front and centre in the main book to make the supplement an easier sell (look! different colours!)

I'm in the highly skeptical camp on this one. It sounds like someone took the cynical statements about the characters being supplement/dataslate fodder as fact and ran with it.

If by "day one" you mean "several weeks later", and by DLC you mean "stuff that should have been in the core package".

Anything cut from a game to release as DLC, even if it comes out later, is effective Day1 DLC. Removing special characters only to release them as dataslates is no different to pay-wall locked on-disc content, or Day1 DLC, hence my comparison.

If they haven't released World Eaters/Death Guard/etc. supplements yet, why is the imminent release of a Catachans supplement a slamdunk?

Playing Devil's advocate here. The bad financials seem to have prompted GW to jump completely in to the DLC approach to rules releases.

Starting with the Advent and right through the Tyranid release. If both IG and Orks follow suit it will be pretty clear how future content will be handled.

I can't justify having to buy both the core codex (laughable concept alone) as well as the cut DLC items. Especially with the sad state of the rules writing at this point.

And to play DA to your DA, where are all the other character releases then? We've seen 2 (Be'lakor and Cypher) so far and neither are restricted to being usable in a single army. If we see more like this they'll be usable by more armies than just Guard.

Possibly, but when it comes to GW, nothing is really set in stone on what they'll do next.

Dataslates aren't "cut content" as they're made by a separate team (GW Digital Editions). It's a different department with two blokes who work on these things likely in their downtime.

Marbo being a supplement that can be added to any Imperial army could make for some funny fluff of him pulling off some "Big Damn Heroes" rescue moments for knights and space marines.

While I dunno about the rumor mongers credibility, I think is reasonable supposition that GW will do a Catachan supplement at some point. This being GW though we'll have to wait through "Codex supplement: Cadians" first. More than marines IG are probably the easiest army to write supplements for... even if model support is lacking, I'm hoping the copy-and-paste wizards over at GW can get around to giving some of the other IG regiments attention.
