And now for something completely different...

From an idea of Michael's 25 years ago we are excited to, at last, be bringing you 'TravelBattle'. This is just a teaser and we hope to launch it on the 22nd April (Salute). All we'll say for now is that it is smaller than you might expect...

We will reveal more in the coming weeks!

Color me intrigued. Any of you history buffs across the pond know what battle that artwork is from?

I've been wanting to pick up both the Perry ACW box and the Perry Waterloo box to start doing some light historical gaming. This may need to be added to the list...

One of them filthy casuals...

15mm or smaller Napoleonic don't excite me very much, there are plenty already. The box bit is the exciting part. Be interested to see what it is.

There's no Perry Waterloo box. Perry has the American Civil War Battle in a Box but that's about it (and a fantastic box it is!)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Speculation is that it is a complete 6mm or 10mm scale wargame in a box, with map/terrain, minis w/ bases, rules, dice, etc. As they Perry bros themselves used to bring homemade self contained games like that to re-enactments to play during the down time.

6mm - 15mm travel wargame? Maybe magnetized, foldable battlefield with magnetized minis? That could be cool.

That sounds very likely! And for everything to be in a easily portable box (and not to be too abstracted) you wouldn't think it could be any bigger than 10mm.

I wouldn't mind seeing more 15mm (or smaller) Naps if they're Perry plastics. I think the production process allows for neater minis at these smaller scales, especially considering who's sculpting them.

First image up. Minis are going to be 8mm. 160 infantry, 24 cavalry, 4 guns and crew, and 6 generals, split into Red and Blue armies. Hopeful launch date is at Salute (late April).

Travel Battle- the figures

Here's the first look at the figures for the new 'complete game in a box' we'll be launching (hopefully) at Salute. The size is 8mm. We toyed with 6mm but found them too small and 10mm were too big to fit with the terrain and scenery and so plumped for something in the middle. There will be 160 infantry, 24 cavalry, 4 guns and crew plus 6 brigadiers in coloured plastic. These are divided into red and blue 'armies'. We don't have plastic examples of the finished figures yet as Renedra are hard at working on them, although Terry has sent a couple of photos of work in progress. These and a few more pictures are shown on our Facebook page. We'll post photos of the terrain next week!

All the best

Perry said the 24mm 3-ups are sitting on 45mm wide bases right now, which will make those models pretty damn close to 10mm when they are scaled down, no matter what they say lol. They look to be at or nearly Warmaster scale.

Pretty excellent, as they look to be more detailed than the Battle of Five Armies 10mm plastics GW made.

figure scale has traditionally been to the eyes, so 8mm at eye level plus 2mm of hat looks about right

I know they must be pretty limited making plastic figures in that size, but I'm still disappointed in the poses.

This has my attention.

In the distant past I played a simple set of Napoleonic rules where there were only three unit types, infantry, cavalry and artillery. It was all about positioning and being in the right formation for the situation. Do you stay in line to maximise your shooting or form to square in case those cavalry charge?

Getting that experience in a one and done box set appeals to me greatly.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

Umm, no. That is a misinterpretation that has lead to all kinds of headaches and scale creep. Scale is a ratio, IE 1/72 scale means 1 inch represents 72. So a 6 foot tall man would be inch tall (top of head, not eye level) in scale. That translates to 25.4mm, which is where the 25mm figure originates. /

Yeah, while Napoleonic infantry were trained to adopt specific poses as ordered, I think a march or present pose would have been better than the at attention pose. Although to be fair, the pose they chose is probably one Napoleonic infantry spent a lot of time in.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

They spent even more of their time sleeping. Doesn't mean I want to play games with miniatures that look like they're sleeping.

Wonder how they will compare size wise with Adler miniatures? I think these Perry figures 'may' be a little taller.

Looks decent. For some reason I'm tickled that they'll be compatible, sizewise, with Adeptus Titanicus.

I was more troubled than I should've been when I discovered 1/72 wasn't 20mm. And people thought 32mm minis labelled as 28mm was bad.

TravelBattle Pre-Order available now! We're very happy to have just received first shots of the figures and terrain from Renedra for TravelBattle, now we can reveal all! The two green plastic 3D terrain boards are 10" squares with roads, hills, ploughed fields, walled areas and six separate buildings. The two boards are different designs but match up neatly side by side with roads connecting. This means you have potentially 16 variations of battlefield by turning the board edges around. The tree tops for the woods are separate to allow figures to be placed in wooded areas. We don't have shots yet (Terry and Renedra really are working their socks off for this release at Salute!) of the buildings and tree tops so what you will see here are mock ups. We also have a photo of the figure frame. There will be two blue and two red frames in each box. Pre-Orders - we have put up a Pre-Order for TravelBattle on the Plastic Boxes page of our website and we will send them out as soon as we can after Salute. Just order as normal, and remember that monies will be taken at time of order. PLEASE NOTE: If you are going to Salute, and would like one, please DON'T Pre-Order as there will be plenty there to pick up. The direct link to the page is https://www.perry-miniatures.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_62&products_id=3637 And now the the advertising blurb... TravelBattle is a complete table top miniatures game in a box. It is intended for gamers who have limited space, or those who are traveling on a long journey or holiday and need a gaming fix! All the playing pieces are made of coloured plastic, and include two 3 dimensional green terrain boards with separate woods, grey buildings and red and blue armies. The size of the miniatures is 8mm. The two terrain boards are designed to be placed together on any edge, giving the potential for 16 different battlefields. The 1" grid marked on the boards excludes the need for rulers to be used in the game. The simple rules system should allow a game to played within an hour. The two armies are generic Napoleonic forces of equal size and composition which make up three brigades for each side. There is a simple painting guide in case you which to enhance your armies and terrain boards. Contents: 160 x Infantry 24 x Cavalry 4 x Guns and 12 crew 6 x Brigadiers 2 x 10" 3D Terrain boards 6 x Buildings 4 x Dice 1 x Set of rules Price £50 +p&p Code BB 2

The Napoleonic theme doesn't really appeal to me, but this looks really nice for portability and detail. I don't think I need it but it's very clever! I hope it's successful enough that they do a War of the Roses or Hundred Years War one next.
