Hello all, I have been posting Battle Reports for Warhammer 40K for some time but I've recently branched out to Legion. I'll be posting Battle Reports with a similar structure for my Warhammer ones, written with pictures and hopefully some valuable commentary. As Battle Reports come in I'll update and bump this thread.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Format: Written Battle Reports on a Weekly Basis
Game Type: Star Wars: Legion (Between 400-800 Points)
Factions: Rebels
Focus: Mid-High Level Competitive Play
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please feel free to comment here or on my Blog, I love discussing games with other players as well as getting feedback I can use to improve my write ups.

Episode 2: I'm Rebelling From This Rebellion (Rebels vs. Rebels 800pts) 4/1/18
Episode 1: If Only There Was an Appropriate Star Wars Reference... (Rebels vs. Empire 800pts) 3/31/18

Got some Rebel on Rebel violence over Easter weekend, having a lot of fun developing strategies for the game thus far.

Any more of these coming soon? 40k is in a pretty bad place right now competitively and I've been really enjoying Legion games.

Unfortunately not, I quit the game because FFG helped kill most interest in my area. Lesson learned.

Ah, sad to hear. What did FFG do to kill interest?

Way too slow on the releases. Everything that's been announced for '18 should have launched with the game. Without that the game quickly became incredibly stale and the IP wasn't enough to prevent that.

Seems like they're making a similar decision with X-Wing 2.0, although that game is very established so it probably won't hurt as much.

With them sticking to parallel releases, I'm not sure why they're not releasing them in.... parallel. Also the objective packs should have come later. They're really unneeded right now.

Eh, it takes a while to paint up people's stuff, and they have a pretty steady stream of releases. FFG's always been sort of a "slow roll" (IIRC each side had only two ships at X-Wing release), but it builds up into a pretty solid position.

They just announced Chewie and Wookiees to match the upcoming Palpatine/Royal Guards, a specialist box for each faction with characters that can be added to normal squads (or used as generic commanders), and the Clone Wars (with two new factions) for next year. My sense is that they'll stay in for a while, even if it starts a bit slow.

The problem is that's not how army games work. They can announce as much as they want, until it's in the player's hands it doesn't matter. FFG biggest success seems to be X-Wing, most other games are either okay or failures. RuneWars is a complete failure and they used the same release schedule, you can't give an army game extremely limited options for upwards of a year and expect people to care about it. Even with what exists now there's not enough for a solid variety in army lists, especially in competitive play which they want to support. Launching with 2 Factions and extremely limited options were very poor decisions.

The game may pick up as they add things, I can't say for sure. But I won't be playing it again in all likelihood as they've already burned me and frankly I got tired of them nickle and diming their players (which many other companies do as well). I have nothing personally against the game, it's just not for me at this time.

It is definitely problematic that there are currently as many announced units as there are available ones.

I guess my attitude is pretty different. From my perspective, most people probably haven't even finished fully painting/basing their armies yet - the nature of a game with modeling aspects means there's stuff to do even during down times. As a result I'm quite willing to forgive a slow start, especially when it comes with more consistent support after. Announcements are great because they keep interest up, and FFG's announcements put new units into the players' hands almost immediately via Tabletop Simulator or proxies since they tend to show a lot of rules. The Organized Play season hasn't really started yet, and even now there are several interesting lists and approaches out, plus new content more or less every month.

Runewars is a subgenre of game that isn't popular (GW killed WHFB for a reason) with what's to most people a no-name IP. Legion is a much more popular subgenre with one of the biggest IPs in gaming. The results are already quite different:

That said, if you're out that's certainly okay - not everyone has to play every game!
