OH-I Wanna get out of here

That's a nice looking collection of random models. Are these commissions?

Thanks. They are a mix of commissions, things I painted for tutorials, and things I did for fun.

I picked up a set of reivers to pratice painting space marines which have been something like painting kryptonite over the years. They turned out okay, some better than others, but most importantly I like to think they have a distinctive style.

Those came out really well. I especially like the Salamander and White Scar. Would love to see some with chapter icons, squad markings, etc done up the same way, see if that weathering can carry across details like that.

Thanks. I did think about adding some motifs and such but this was such a change from my normal painting style and tehnique that I wanted to keep things simple. I will be more ambitious next time.

Here's a little personal project I did this week, the Danger 5 set from Crooked Dice.

I've noticed flickr has been acting up when embedding images. That pic is set to public and shows up for me but a few in previous posts are broken.

Anyway, here is a set of Ironskull boyz I did this week. There are also images on my website if these don't show https://opponenttheory.com/blog/2018/10/5/ironskull-boyz-reprise

Those are ridiculously amazing! Like Frodeck says, those tats are just out of this world! I tried doing tats on a 54mm figure & a slayer bust & neither worked that well (by any scope of the imagination).
Simply stunning.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Thanks. At this scale it's not necessary to be too precise unless you are painting for a competition. If you look close enough the tattoos look a bit of a mess but the overall impression is what's important.

Here's a bust I painted for myself. Had a lot of fun with this so whilst there are a few things that look off I'm pretty happy to add this to my collection.

Hello Dakka

Of late I have been painting infinity models as a way to improve the quality of my gaming painting. My goal is to paint a solid 7 in the least time possible, about 2-3 hours for a regular human miniature. These took more like 3-4 hours and whilst the quality is serviceable there's room for improvement. It's proving to be an interesting exercise and whilst I won't win any awards the challenge of painting within these constraints is forcing me to become a little more creative with my methods.

Dude, those dwarves are really ace. I mean all this stuff is sweet, just particularly like those little bros. You’ve done the beards really awesomely and the tattoos are incredible. Mint AF my friend.

Beautiful work all round.

I really love painting Infinity minis and you've done a stellar job on yours, especially given the time constraints you've put upon yourself.
You make me want to dig mine out to paint, or worse yet, buy some more

'serviceable' he says, '3 - 4 hourse' he says!

I hate you through envy. These are pretty spectacular, even more so considering the time per model.

That was not meant to be a humble brag or whatever. I do this for a living, or at least try to, and one of the coping mechanisms I've developed is a detachment from the product of my labors. As much as I enjoy the act of painting, once I've finished I lose interest pretty quickly because there's always the possibility I'll have to sell them at a heavy discount later on. A shelf full of nicely painted models is a sign that business has been bad.

Also, I know I'm no where near the top tier folks, so I've tried to find a sweet spot of quality per time. One thing I've noticed is that a lot of the common painting techniques tend to be useful for army painting or display/competition level, but are perhaps not ideal for painting well and quickly and consistently. The time constraint is really forcing me to reconsider every step of the painting process and it's proving to be a fun challenge and a good learning experience.

Yeah, pretty much.

Here are some superhero models I repainted in an attempt at comic style of painting. I'm still not comfortable with the method enough to use it for commissions, however it was a good exercise in understanding volumes and colors.

Those little robots are adorable.

Do you have a site or anything? Not that we don’t like seeing your work here, but hard to get commission jobs without it!

And yes I'm terrible at self promotion and every other aspect of running a business apart from the painting bit.
