So, I figured I'd make a 10 man squad two fire teams for some of the awesome skirmish rules out there (Craig Cartmell's "In the Emperor's Name" & "Heralds of Ruin: Killteam" come to mind, but yes, maybe even Killteam itself...).

My box of Cadians sat around for a couple months, and while I was waiting to start the build the idea of building them as Imperial Navy came to mind. For starters, I looked up a few blogs on how to make Space Hulk type bases and struck gold with many such posts. So, I took out some of my screening material, and started gluing away. Got to start from the ground (in this case deck) up right?

Imperial Guardsmen, and in this case Armsmen and ratings (or voidsmen) are known for flexibility with heavy weaponry. Clearly, this team will get more out of a flamer than a grenade launcher, but what if the scenario calls for them to be providing dropzone/evac security for an Arvus Lighter shuttle on the surface of a hostile world? A grenade launcher might be essential in that case.

I'm not rich, so I can't just go out and get a box of Cadians whenever I want, so I like to use magnets where possible for options. With the Cadian figures, this was amazingly EASY! Not only did I use magnets, but I used parts of a paper clip cut flush with the arms to reduce my magnet use by half. I thought about washers, but my #8 washers were too big, and I didn't have any M3 flat washers laying about at the moment. However, on larger figures, or packs, that is certainly a sturdier option instead of paper clips!

Alright, so here is my latest entry for the day. Five modified Lasguns with flashlights attached. Flashlights utilized some Evergreen rod (1.5mm ish, 1.35mm when I miked it) and tube (2.5mm nominal, 2.35 miked). Bulb and lens were 1mm cut from the tube, and the flashlight body was cut 3mm long from the rod. Didn't bother to mike the piece of plastic sheet I used, it was small. Less than 1mm long...

I am a little surprised that no one has made a comment yet. Really good stuff here. I look forward to seeing how they all come out.

Dying to know.
How are you going to differentiate them as Voidsmen/Armsmen vs standard Guardsmen?

Most likely when I paint them. Armsmen are going to have a more professional look, and wear dark blue uniforms with black flak and helmets. Voidsmen are going to be painted with light blue dungeree shirts and have green Cadian surplus flak and helmets.

Thanks! With the Holidays, I hope to get some done between meals and parties! When folks ask what I want for Christmas, I will answer with hobby time (or game time)!

Heavy weapons assembled! Now, to pick one trooper to be the Armsman (new equipment) and on to be a pressed Voidsman (with the beat up Cadian Whiteshield gear [Requisitioned by the Ship's Captain at a significant discount because it was used...]).

All are ready for priming! Boring flat black priming (though, the last of the can I used to spray with though...), so no pictures of the primed miniatures today!

Hopefully I can post the base coating for the curious. Got to wait for primer to dry (which is why I'm posting) and flip some of the parts over to spray at another angle. Maybe, just maybe I'll have time to paint before the first family gathering tonight...

Putting those flashlights on has doubled their weapons’ damage output!

Nice little conversion.

Perhaps adding a laser sight would be in order to triple said fire power!

Did some more work on a couple of other squadies. Vox caster troopers and the NCO, in this case, the Imperial Navy eqivelent of a petty officer.

Thanks! Most of my posing is just generic parts however. All I did was stick them together in a way that I thought was dynamic, and I'm pretty pleased with the results, and I'm thrilled other folks notice. So far, just the stock parts themselves are pretty dynamic... Blutack (or poster putty) is a nice tool... For more than posting pictures on the wall or holding small parts for painting! It is an indispensable planning tool!

Okay, so here are some more images of the voxmen and the NCO, which I suspect would be called a Petty Officer like today's wet navy NCOs as naval tradition rarely changes. Even 38 or so centuries in the future. I'm sure there is a shrine to Neptune on Imperial ships...

...even if they are in space and not the oceans.

Apologies if the images are not in the posting... I might have to come back and edit...

Latest batch of this composite squad is painted. When I get more Guardsmen in the future, I'll likely separate the Voidsmen from the Armsmen to make two squads... For skirmish Killteam action however, this would work pretty well (except points wise, unless the BMP is exactly a Chimera where allowed depending on skirmish rules set...). I only really included that because it looks cool to have the infantry posed in front of it!

Armsmen and Voidsmen complete! More or less, the beginnings of more than one squad given the presence of two voxcasters... But it is a start. The red lasguns came out pretty good in the hands of the Voidsmen in Cadian Whitesield surplus armor. I figure mixing in conscripts with the experienced Armsmen serves to keep the unit at least as capable as most Guardsmen, and allows the Armsmen to keep tabs on conscripted Voidsmen and keep them in line (i.e. crush any potential mutiny or desertion attempts in a very up close and personal manner...).
