Do you think Legion of the Damned should sport purity seals?  Sure they're still considered loyalists, but they're "damned"

What's your opinion?

Once they're actively taking up arms, there is no hidnig anything.

They won't want to wear them either. Remember, these people turned on not just their government but their religion. They're going to be zealots.

Ahem... Legion of the Damned, not Lost and the Damned. Big difference. Why does everyone keep making that mistake?

To answer the original question: no. Although I could see them wanting too, aren't purity seals awarded by the Imperium? And if the LotD aren't 'technically' part of the Imperium anymore, why would they get them?

Ironically, they do. So do cheats.

I would denote yes. FLuffwise they could be the original purity seals from before the warp accident turned them into burning nick of time cavalry.

Eh, I'd say no seeing given the fluff of the Legion has them removing all visible markings of being Fire Hawks and replacing them with symbols of "death and damnation" (hence the repainted black armor with the skulls, death and flame motifs). Purity seals would be the very contradiction of a legion that has found itself damned to death by a corrupting incurable warp plague.

All the flames around their bodies would have long conflagrated the seals off their armor. Moot point. No purity seals left to worry about whether they'd wear them or not.

guys
you are reading way too much fluff into this army
they still serve the emperor, they just do it in the only way they can

depending on which version you read they are dying they dont rebuild there are only a few of them left not even a full chapter if you read the white dwarf crap

now if you go by the 2004 chapter approved listing they are just a secretive chapter who do there own thing in protecting fellow marines

and as the 2004 chapter approved is the last thing on them offical they dont get purity seals anyways.. so its mearly combat awards or decorations

and if you look at the metal models gw produced which i have 50 of.. not one of them have purity seals on their armor

now on gw's site they SUGGEST you use traits to mimick the legion.. that might be a great idea if they had a list of traits that were worth a damn and fit the legion which they dont

so your stuck going back to the 2004 chapter approved which they never made them official only opps permission and trial which sucks big time

now rumor mill has it they are going to do a cursed founding chapter codex i for one am not going to hold my breath.. plus i fear they will screw the legion once and for all...so that makes me nervous

i have 3000 points of the legion and they are by far my favorite chapter next to my dark eldar

so we can only wait and see

and yes why does everyone get lost and the damend confused with a real space marine army? bunch of traiterous heathens get your armies straight!

Playing devil's advocate, I found this model in the US Online Store -

<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="247" border="0"> <form> action="?WCI=Menu&WCE=Search" method="get"> <tbody> <tr> <td align="left" colspan="4">

Legion of the Damned Devastator Body 3
</td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="middle" align="left" colspan="4">Part Code: 9947010110006 </td> </tr> </tbody> </form> </table>

As you can see, the model is sporting purity seals on his belt.

Hmmm...

the 4 devestator bodies i have dont have any purity seals.. thats news to me

and in the chapter approved thats the fluff wise rumor as well they are pretty much considered to be the firehawks

specifically

the examination of starship debris in the maran sub sector suggests a link between the legion and the fate of the firehawks chapter.

now it never actually says they are the firehawks but its pretty good assumption fluff wise they are one and the same

Scott
i checked into why it is that that one model has purity seals

thats the same body they used for generic space marines in the old style for devastators they just stuck a skull on his left knee and added him to the damned list.. actually they changed the knee from a skull and sunburst to just the skull pretty cheesy

the ones that have sculpted flames and all are not wearing them

does it mean anyhting not really.. but the oriniginal rules for them stated thet were fearless and always passed moral checks leadership etc thus they would never need purity seals they couldnt be broken and they actually caused fear in close combat.. which i miss so bad

anyway these are my guys i love them so i play them til the @#$%^% %^&*(% wheels fall off them

Good point, I hadn't noticed that they did that to the model

I for one am not hoping for new rules for them.  Right now I play them as a regular codex Marine army, and I'm afraid GW giving them rules would screw up my list

Anyway, here's some pics of my former Imperial Dragons army.  I'm converting them to LotD -

That's the Flame Falcons, not the LotD.

beef:
"who said they are fire hawks, thats a rumour. its not fact."

It's been pretty clearly 'hinted' that the LotD are the Fire Hawks. While older fluff just suggested it as a possibility, the more recent stuff gave a pretty good indication that it was true.

Amongst the Stars, In the Night

Even the older RT-era and 2nd Ed. fluff left little doubt that they were the remanants of the Fire Hawks chapter as the weapons and equipment found on fallen Legionnaires (or simply left behind by the Legion) bore unique Imperial serial codes numbers for kit issued to the Fire Hawks. At least that was the general gist of it.
