While the 3rd book is due out in a month, Amazon. com already has a pre-purchase order for the fourth book, the Flight of the Eisenstein.

Have a look:

I liked James Swallow's Deus Sanguinus and Deus Encarmine books. He's pretty good.

Wow I'd thought it was only a trilogy.  I'm pretty excited that there's more to come.  The first 2 were great.

Does anyone know how many total they have planned?  Thanks!

I emailed Dan Abnett via the Black library a while back (really cool guy). He informed me there will be 9 novels in all and he is writing the last one.

Good to hear they're getting Abnett to write Horus Vs the Emperor (I'd imagine that will happen book 9).

That'll be a helluva read.

Visions of Death is the fourth HH art book, Kyoto-sama.

Flight of the Eisenstein sounds like a good 'un, I hope there is some similarity between the Eisenstein and the Potemkin mutinies.

I hear you. I'm only getting the Abnet ones, him and Jack Yeovil (Kim Newman) are the only GW writers I trust to be worth my $8 (!!! EIGHT AMERICAN DOLLARS!!! I gotta buy more used books).

James Swallows? Argh. The guy can't write for toffee.

Both of the Blood Angels books were terrible. With turgid pacing, terrible character development; both were mawkishly melodramatic, had gaping plot holes and generally demonstrated a very poor sense of the 40k universe – and all this on top of a ridiculous premise and an achingly poor writing style.

Swallows is the Gary Morley of Black Library – making up the numbers.

Deus Encarmine was the first Black Library book I read, and it took me hook, line, and sinker. I felt that the numbers of the Blood Angles in the two books where a little whacky, but all in all I enjoyed them. So I think book 4 should be fine.

Cool to hear it'll be a 9 book series. Seems where finally going to get a canon in depth portayel of the Horus Heresy.

I liked the Blood Angels books actually. Ben Counter is not bad either but the second book in the Heresy series was awful...You started with Dan Abnett's typically brilliant set-up, excellent research, historical references, ominous portents in the Wisperheads, great pacing and then get stuck with the schlop. I expect the next two books to be somewhat superior.

PS Love the artwork of the third and fourth books. Especially the Flight of the Eisenstein.

geeze, i have to get around to finishing the first book still...the switch midway thru to techno spiders kinda didn't work for me so far...but like i said, haven't finished it. i found it facinating, though, how before the Horus Heresy the whole imperium of man was basically an athiestic state.

It still is. They don't worship an ethereal entity, they worship a tangible person.

I like how the Emperor refuses to be called a god, though.

I liked both two, but despite Dan Abnett setting up the characters and the story line, Graham just isn't the writer Abnett is. None the less, I'm confident it will be a fun series and if Abnett does write the final episode (as is to be expected) it will be epic!

I'm very much looking forward to Ravenor 3! It's longer that it was supposed to be and will bring the wholy trilogy together.

I'm such a fan of Abnett. GW was really lucky to get him so excited about the 40k universe. He has brought the hobby alive on a whole nother level.

Agreed – Abnett is the Jes Goodwin of Black Library. While nothing they produce is 'great literature'; Abnett rises above the pulp fiction they generally churn out and writes a damn good book.

Anyone have any spoilers for The Armour of His Contempt? I hear he goes back to Gereon with a huge force but that's it. Will we finally get to see what a Gengenesh is?

Up your nose with a rubber hose.

I had a feeling they'd have Abnett wrap up the series. Glad to see some confirmation. False Gods is ok, but Horus Rising was the sort of book that gave my imagination (and waning enthusiasm in 40K) a kickstart. I'd like to know what sort of planning went to the table for this series. For there to be any continuity, it seems that they would have had to lay out the plotline for all the authors, but who fleshed out? Was it a team effort or did they turn Abnett loose and then tell the rest of the writers to follow his lead?

EDIT:

From the Dan Abnett interviw at BL online: "My job was to establish the climate and times and ‘feel’ of the 30K universe, and set up some of the principal characters, plus seed in some doubts and gathering, ominous plot lines. Graham said that I ‘put a lot of balls up in the air for him to hit”. And he meant that in a nice way. I guess my book is a primer for the whole cycle."

Good call on the part of BlackLibrary.
