According to the GW website the new set is out already.  Now of course it might be that stores haven't gotten their shipments yet, but has anyone picked this up/seen it and would care to make a comment?  I am thinking of picking up the set, $45 dollars for 100 minis seems like a damn good deal.

GW has again put canadian price way out of range of the US price. It should have been 50$ with the change rate but it is 75$ instead. Our local dealer will still lose some hair when he will see that it cost less to buy it from the states

Well even at $75 Canadian it is still a great deal. I picked one up, swapped the dwarfs for gobbos and then a friend just gave me his gobbos. So I have three boxes worth of gobbos. That is a lot of models for $75. Great deal, its like 37 drawfs, 73 gobbos for 110 minis plus tokens, scenery, etc. Rulebook has all stats for all armies in the back.

The interesting thing is that it included profiles for an entire Chaos drawf army.

I'm loving it to bits. It's a good value if you like Gobbos or Dwarfs. And it means you won't need to buy a WHFB rulesbook. I really like the figures. They're not the most detailed things ever, but they have a lot of character. As for being one piece sculpts, well, I get no enjoyment from gluing together five pieces for every Night Goblin in a 40+ strong unit. I have no problem with simple rank-and-file figures for WHFB. Put the fancy ones in the front rank and fill out the back ranks with the rest.

And I really like the Goblin Spider Riders. They make me smile. The objectives - Shaman tent and Pony Cart - are fun, too. Overall, I like it even more than I thought I would.

Under the couch

I received mine from UK Mail Order the day before yesterday.

Haven't done more than flick through the rulebook and ogle the minis so far. The Goblins aren't bad... love the new (smaller) size, hate the bland, featureless faces. The Dwarves are a mixed bunch... the miners and Lord are great, the Handgunners and Trollslayer are bad, and the Warriors are perhaps the worst models GW has produced since Lemartes... He at least had detail.

I understand that there are only intended as starter pieces, but there is simply no excuse for approving models so incredibly shoddy for actual production. Whoever is responsible for these should be smacked in the head with a wet squig.

ewwwww... a wet squig? that could be painful and humiliating, although I would guess life for GW employees is always like that .

Anyway, seems like I have to pick it up now, the question is how many of them to get . Might have to clear out some space in my room to fit all those giant boxes!

It's unquestionably the best box set GW has put out. I love the sculpts and the compact rule book. I'm still trying to get over how many quality models you get...

If only they kept this kind of value/$ up.

I picked up a box for 20£ at a webshop, then traded the gobbos for dwarfs and then bought the dwarfes of another set for 6£. My dwarf warrior have all been converted to look almost like this (not my picture, stolen from Warseer) :

So no waving the axe in the air for my dwarfes. Also all the dwarfes have had their horns cut off, I think it makes them look harder.

I plan on making an entire army out of the three sets, mounted in scratchbuild gyrocopters.

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time...

i got to see the contents last saturday, but the store sold out.
did anyone else notice that all the minis seem to be smaller then normal ? they look like the are back to true 25mm scale. maybe thats a cost saving measure ?

other then that, they look good and will make an easily converted chaos dorf army.

When I'm in power, here's how I'm gonna put the country back on its feet. I'm going to put sterilizing agents in the following products: Sunny Delight, Mountain Dew, and Thick-Crust Pizza. Only the 'tardiest of the 'tards like the thick crust.

The dwarfs look the same size to me. The gobbos are definitely smaller, but that's because GW (correctly) decided that the last versions, although great sculpts, were way outta scale compared to their human models, etc. Gobbos aren't supposed to look like they way 180 lbs.

It's worth buying just for the rulebook. Hardcover- $50, Skull Pass- $45. The only reason to get the hardcover is for the fluff.

Some models are great in the set, some suck. The goblin boss holing the squig is good. As said, a lot of the dwarf models suck.

Good luck, everyone I know is looking to do the same thing. However, if you're a dwarf player, and don't mind the uglier than arse figs, now is a great time to pick up a dwarf army for the cheap, cheap, cheap.

Me, I'm thinking of possilbly getting a second set for just the gobbos.

Personally I don't mind the Dwarves.  I mean, they're not really good, but not bad either (especially for the money.)  I wouldn't mind mixing in a decent amount of the Skull Pass dwarves with the multi-piece ones.  The ugly ones are just the first to die!

The gobbos are freaking sweet for the money.  I'm so tempted just to buy a boxed set (or two) plus some orcs to make a greenskin army.

Finally got the set. Definately awesome, the sheer number of minis is amazing, the gobbo army already looks huge and I'm waiting for a chance to dig out my old orcs and see how big of a horde i can assemble. Mini quality is ok, i was sort of disappointed at first but the models definately grow on you and there are some really nice sculpts hidden in there.

The only really really wierd thing about this set is all the random terrain and whatnot... its almost like they put in things like the wound markers, tied up slayer, effigy of gork, etc, with no plan to actually use them for scenarios. Battle for Macragge actually used its terrain pieces for the mini campaign, this Skull Pass booklet seems a little halfhearted. I was certainly looking forward to a mini campaign to teach my friends Warhammer, guess I will have to make up something myself .

Otherwies, I recommend this set.

I just put the dwarfs together for Moopy's D&D game. Why is it that the 7th edition rules make ranks 5 models wide, but the miners and warriors come in multiples of 4? Who planned that? That just does not make sense. If you put both the hero and the slayer in the miner unit you can make a rank, but the warriors are three models short of the third rank. What's the point of that? You can't even make real units out of the models.

I still love the set because I'm going to be playing goblins and it's a great deal, but the dwarf numbers are just dumb.

Maybe it's so you have to buy more models?  Is there any other good reason to make ranks 5 wide besides that?  If there is, someone please tell me - I want to know.

Game balance?  Or maybe they were just tired of skaven units 4 wide and 7 ranks deep.

No, you're right.  It's definitely about the benjamins.

It's kinda pretty to look at. The standard, champion, and musician all fit nicely in the middle of the front rank if there's 5.

I just have to hope they don't gimp the Bret list later since I'm still enjoying the 3-man ranks.
