i am a little confused as to how conversions can be used in 4OK

this is for my tau army

i have some new kroot and a spair bolt pistol and chain sword. the idea is that a kroot (maybe the shaper) killed a marine but loses his hands. as a trophy he cuts of the marines hand and weapons takes hand as trophy and demands that the hands are added as boinocs and uses the marines weapons but would he be able to use these in the game???

and could a kroot warrior have a kroot pistol and have he same stas as a rifle with halfed range and the ovius pistol rules?

thanks for all ur help and time

IS THERE KROOT WOMEN??

As you were told in a previous thread, this is a message board, not a chat room. Replies often take a while.

So far as conversions go... they're a way of personalising your models, not a way of making up your own rules. For a 'legal' conversion, you still have to stick with the options in your codex.

If you're making something just for the fun of it, or if you have a gaming group who don't mind you making up your own rules, then feel free to go wild. Otherwise, stick with your codex.

Somewhere in south-central England.

The Kroot couldn't use SM weapons in the game without the opponent's permission.

You can't invent new weapons like the Kroot pistol and use them without the opponent's permission. Though it's not a bad idea as the Kroot sprues have pistols on them. However, you need to work out a reasonable points cost.

I don't know if there are Kroot women.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

"so i can use them at local games but not tornements?"

NO. You cannot use them in normal local games either. In order to do something this wacky, you need to get you specific opponent's permission beforehand and let him know exactly what you are doing and why and then you are at their mercy as to if they will allow it.

What you are asking is extremely out of the ordinary. Its better to stick with the options available in your codex.

"so does this mean that the model would have 2 not be used in tournemts??"

Exactly. Such a conversion would never be allowed in a tournament.

oh well

i did once see a kroot in a games workshop with a heavy bolter and in fact most of the had SM weapons and no-one had a proplem with them.

but its good idea is it not???

Well it's really a decision between you and your opponent. If they don't mind then you can use it. Just remember that they aren't being rude if they don't let you use rules you've made up. As far as a "counts as" conversion you'd probably get away with it by just telling your opponent that the weapons they're carrying count as kroot rifles.

Arming kroot with looted weapons is pretty characterful but not necessarily justification for using varient rules.
