The more I play Confrontation the more I like it. Is the bottom model for their RPG? O/T it looks like those RPG have the same stat set up as confrontation so are usable in Confromtation? Either way, more beautiful models and awesome paint jobs to drool over.

Just yesterday, I was wondering where you've been Bugs, and *POOF* here you are! You may be happy to know that I'm the proud owner of the molds for the R'Kiiv Wink Dog AKA Stupid Things.

You mean GW miniatures look normal?

Of course French miniatures are self-consciously weird. Just look at these, and those other models by MSB Toys. In fact, those are all the French mini companies I can think of, and both companies try very, very hard to make weird miniatures. Games Workshop doesn't make weird models, they make cartoony ones with comic-book exaggeration.

Elusive, congratulations on acquiring the Stupid Things molds! You are now one step closer on your path to world domination.

Hey- I agree they're self-consciously weird, but they're also magnificent sculpts with great artistic flair. I love them.

I am still at odds with most of the female models. Way too spindly Aeon Fluxish looks for my tastes.

They have some great models, they have some horrible models. Creative though...

To be fair though- there are more then a couple of minis in Rackham's lines that are weird to the point of being stupid.  Here's two such minis from this month's releases:





I absolutely loath these minis- especially the heads. 

This one isn't so new but it also has a face that I mildly dislike (but is pulled off much better then the two above) and a pirate goblin that looks too over the top (in my opinion at least).  I'd buy the mini if the goblin didn't make me cringe.



And finally, a non-ogre that looks irrediemably goofy:

I quite like the sniper guy they made,sort of a cross between the Khador widowers and that cool 40k Inq. guy with the mastercraft plasma.

I don't think they're trying to do anything but sculpt characterful, fresh takes on standard fantasy fare. Those Ogres aren't even remotely the "wierdest" in their range. Mid-nor dwarves anyone? Even then, those very creepy dwarves are awesome in their wierdness. It's not so much that they are trying hard, it's just what they do. Perhaps there is something in the air, or in the diet, that has caused the gates of creativity to have been broken open and to allow all of that strange to flow out like an unending torrent of awesomeness. May it never stop!


ps. I don't think this is limited to the figures either, look at many French creative output and you'll find many of the same visual styles. For example,  the Jeunet film, "La Cité des enfants perdus" (The City of Lost Children), is chock full of the same visual design elements seen in Rackham's figures. A similar correlation could be made with Japan & anime, it's just the style of animation/illustration that is popular in that country rather than some prolonged effort at being unique.

Yay, the Daikinee are getting Eeengleesh cards (I could probably read the French ones, but my anal-retentiveness won't let me have a mix of languags on my cards...)

And as usual - sweet. I wouldn't say they're self-consciously weird - rather I'd say that what is normal is different in France. And the sculpts are absolute beauties to paint - I've finally gotten round to mine and they're an absolute blast.

I really want to find out what the Wolfen trackers look like - that's one army split between wicked new models and middling old ones.

Does this mean that GW stuff is based off of Danger Mouse and the Teletubbies?

you can just leave the Goblin. there's no exact location or spout which looks weird if you don't glue him on
