Some very nice models across the board, making this a tough decision, combined with the sexy new Death Korps hitting bank accounts soon ...

Mordheim/Germany

Always the Death Korps. I was playing with the thought doing a Death Korp army out of the steel legion but the FW are just awesome.
And that has nothing to do with the fact that I'm from Germany...

The Chaos militia comes close, though.

Chaos Militia easy. While the Death Krieg are some mighty fine sculpts, they are, effectively, WW1 French trenchers in the 41st Millenium (in otherwords, available elsewhere with a little work). The Chaos Militia, wow, why did it take so long!

I just wish the actual castings equaled up to the sculpts.

Death Korps is awesome. There's just something about the human version of Orks, as they come in droves, charging in the thousands across no-man's land with gasmasks, trenchcoats, and awesome lasguns that just gets under my skin and makes the idea of starting an army just for the models sound quite appealing.

Elysian Drop Troops would have been my second choice.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person, who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

Death Korps, all the way.  If I had unlimited money, I would build an IG army out of Death Korps and Steel Legion miniatures.  Unfortunately, that's not the case.  I also worry about the Forge World resin casting....it's too much money for me to drop on something that has a good chance of being miscast or having a ton of flash to clean off.

A bizarre array of focusing mirrors and lenses turning my phrases into even more accurate clones of

Drop troops. I prefer the WM Trenchers version of WW1, well, trenchers. Trenchers with knight helmets.

I like the fluff behind Tallarn the most, but I voted Elysians because I assumed the FW-centric question hinged on model preference.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

i voted DKoK.
since i just started an army of them (ok i've only got one squad, but i'm doing this army the right way. buy and assemble a squad, then paint it. only then will i buy another squad)

the fit and finish of the models is exellent. the detail is fantastic.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

the spire of angels

elysians hands down

i love the models and the weapon packs....and if you mechanize them with valkyries and vultures they are the most survivable guard army i have ever seen.

For all your bravado, if the US Army decided to invade, Wisconsin is it?, in force supported by a heavy bombing campaign for the month before, weeks of shelling from battleships on Lake Superior, and a full tank thrust (crushing the cows beneath the treads), I don't think that your .22 is going to make much of a difference really... Real tidy but looked like they are going to kick your ass in a polite way.

I voted Chaos Renegades to get this thing kicked off, but I was really close to voting Tallarn, cause the desert dogs have always had a special place in my heart (if not my wallet). But looking through FW I noticed a) how weakly Tallarn is supported - i.e. where are the nice resin troopers to go along with the nice snipers and updated heavy teams and phallic-thing riders? - and b) how limited the support team sculpts are. Unless I'm mistaken FW made only 1 pose for each weapon, and it's not the most fabulous 1 pose at that (a guy chucking a grenade on each team? ooook). Kinda sad, actually.

And then all this rummaging around led me to the small Cadian section, where I fell in love with the Cadian rebreather heads! Damn, such a simple thing makes Cadian plastics look so good! Then I saw that, unlike Elysians, you can't just buy 10 heads at a time, but have to get the upgrade kit for a load of GBP. This also made me sad. Then I saw the very nice powerfisty Cadian officer and scanner set, and while I'm not a fan of the meltagunner or the guy at attention, the set and officer are so nice I might just plonk down the green for some FW Guard afterall.

Nuts, though it'd be worse if those lovely gasmask heads were seperate ...
