The mods do discuss this and if they believe Doomthumbs deserved to be banned for some reason, then okay, he probably did. yes I will miss him, but comments like spam them achieves nothing, and is the kind of stuff that could escalate, and eventually lead to suspensions and threadlocks.

Deciding bannings/suspensions is completely within their purview and I don't dispute that, since justice via mob is a really poor idea.

However, not informing the public of the basic problems that led to the ban undermines trust in their authority, as we have no way of knowing if he was banned for language, ad spam, threats, or simply picking his nose the wrong way (All conjecture, btw! See how the problems start?...). Worse yet, without knowing why he was banned, we have no idea if he may have been banned for questionable reasons. I doubt he was, but without knowing I can't dismiss that possibility.

I agree the "I ride for Doomthumbs" or "Bring doombthunmbs back!" is a bit over the edge, especially if his ban was on legitimate grounds (Which I'm fairly confident it was). However, I strongly disagree that asking the mods to address the grounds on which he was banned is "Spam."

Imagine the feeling when you position your tanks, engines idling, landing gear deployed for a low profile, with firing solutions along a key bottleneck. Then some fether lands a dreadnought behind them in a giant heat shielded coke can.

Thanks for the banner Lindsay. As soon as I get my wife to explain to me how I go about putting it in my sig, I will join up.

Many forums have a list of users that were banned and they give a brief description as to the reason. Something like that would be nice here.

Exactly! Usually if someone was banned because of what they were saying in a thread, unless the posts were deleted, it's usually self-evident why. But afaik, the "using someone else's profile with their permission to post" is the only line crossed, which seems (Warning! Warning! Personal conjectures ahead!) to be nowhere near enough for a full ban: Warning? Definately. Suspension? Sure. Ban? Seems a bit harsh imo, especially since I can't find anything in the Code of Conduct forbidding it . (/Conjectures)

I thought the last thing I saw Doomthumbs posting was a series of pictures he said he was banned from another site for posting, maybe that was someone else though.

Guys and Girls. Many of you know, that Doomthumbs and I are good friends IRL, and I have spoken with Doomthumbs personally, and I would like to clear up a few things just to kinda fill in the gaps for those who HAVE TO KNOW!

I understand Mods do not discuss the terms of Suspensions/Bannings, so I will not go in depth about this and (justifiably so) earn myself a suspension...

Doomy has been part of a "misunderstanding" and the Mods have decided that given his already "controversial" nature, previous NSFW subject matter, and heated discussions with some who would disagree, it would be a plus to give Dakka a vacation from Doomthumbs.

I can see both sides. I ,unequivocably, side with Doomthumbs on this one, (given I know all the parties involved in the misunderstanding) and while I have been suspended myself for my firery right-wing rhetoric in the OT threads, I can ABSOLUTELY see the MODs side and understand what has been done has been done in spirit of equally enforcing the rules of Dakka,

....not some vandetta-esq attempt to censor our favorite degenerate.

I will say again that Doomykins was suspended, not banned, and will be returning soon, so lets not start a revolution, so to speak, and unintentionally create a pariah whose value would be outweighed by his liability.

Gawds Willing, "The Maplethorpe of Dakka" will return sooner than you can say "Transgender Carnifex Genetailia."

Good night, and good luck.

Thank you.

I am glad it's not permanent, and given that he'll be eventually be returning, I ride for doomthumbs and the (eventual) return of the NSFW Tyranids!

Cool, thanks to you and DT for keeping us in the know. I deliberately made the banner so as not to be over the line, so I guess it wouldn't be controversial to keep it around until team NSFW are complete again

I'll remark that a lot of this escalation and speculation could have been avoided with a simple 'this member's account is suspended' notification on suspended profiles (that would not have raised any privacy issues), and say IMO the matter is closed.

However, if we're to keep this thread out the graveyard, there's going to have to be some life support. Anyone else got anything icky they can show and tell?

I'll add to this an observation that I used to be part of another special interest forum (unrelated to wargaming) that became notorious amongst that community for having mods with hair-trigger banhammers accountable only to the site owner, not to the community in any way. I was amongst the forum users who felt that whilst the site owner obviously had rights and liabilities as the person legally responsible for the paperwork, there was not enough engagement with the user base to feel that forum membership was desirable - and took our contributions (in terms of content and funds) elsewhere.

Cool story bro. Your point being?
