Well, yeah. Always bet on Red.
A 2 month absence. Wow. And not much to show for it. Not my ideal summer, the summer of '16. Well, it belongs to the ages now. And the ages can keep it. :|
Did a bit of painting. Some WIPs of a pig that goes with another mini.

As you can see it is tiny --that's a 25mm base. Now, About the thread title. Do I give it 'lipstick' or paint the mouth more realistically, similar to the reference photo (below)? Suggestions. The mini has no mouth detail, so anything goes here.
The eyes, however, are going to be classic anime eyes, or something close. I'm still debating the spots. Bentheim Black Pied I think is the type of pig with those spots. Or Gloucester Old Spot.
Also, bear in mind the camera lens was about 3cm from the mini in those photos. The surface imperfections won't be visible to the naked eye.

Well, it is a chibi pig. Gotta admit: I've never seen a chibi pig before. It was the appeal of the mini, TBH. And yes, no lipstick. Thanks for the input, guys. I appreciate it.
I decided against spots. Too cow-like, IMHO.
Ah, done. I gave it blue eyes. Actually looked up a how to do chibi eyes. The things one learns...

And the cute little gold star on the collar/bow
Here it is in relation to the mini it comes with. I'll get around to painting that when I decide what sort of floral designs the umbrella and dress get. I want to do some cool freehand for the umbrella at least.
Thanks for stopping by.

Detail on the pig is amazing bud, some of those highlight strokes must have been by robot!
As to the floral, I would go subtle pink with cherry blossom. Screams it to me.

Rise thread, rise!
Thanks guys, Yah, pig was fun to paint. So very tiny too. A nice little add on to the mini, methinks. I have a chibi succubus from Soda Pop minis to paint too. At this point I want interesting things to paint. No more boring.
Well Cam, pink, hmmm? The cherry blossom motif is a good idea. I like it. We have a cherry blossom festival here in Washington every spring because of, well, this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Cherry_Blossom_Festival
Not much hobbying done Had to do some repair work on my garage. It is ~50 years old, the garage, so y'all know what that means. A nasty trip down the rabbit hole. You find a small problem, and while fixing it you find another problem, and another... Ended up rebuilding the tool/garden shed annex to it. Good thing I'm "good with tools", eh? Everything is under control now.
Ordered some nice translucent GameScience dice to give as gifts for my friends, since we are playing a D&D campaign-- and have been for 2 years now. I'm going to turn them into dice snobs Chessex, Koplow, not good enough anymore.... But I started in '78 with GameScience, so to me they are D&D dice. (Actually I started with the really crappy dice that came in the blue box. These things, which originally were an educational tool for teaching the platonic solids, according to the guy who wrote D&D.
The dice come uninked
I inked them with a Sharpie paint pen. Which broke, and I ended up pouring out some of the paint ( it's an oil based paint) and using an old brush to finish.
In case you're curious the dice sets have names. Starting from top left: Fire, Ice, Sapphire, and From bottom left: Ruby, Topaz and Amethyst
They came in these blisters
Which I don't like, so I replaced them with some Chessex dice cubes I had lying around. Much nicer way to give them as gifts, IMHO.
These, the ruby set, I am keeping. ( of course they're red...)
 ]
And a little bit of paint on this guy, A Knight of Montesa, very early WIP

Thanks for stopping by. Maybe some more pictures of other WIPs soon. I might even finish a mini.

Thanks guys. Pig was a blast to paint. I hope the mini it accompanied will be as much fun. That mini has a bit more exposed skin than perhaps it needs. I was going to GS some additional material on it, but I'm lazy about such things, so I have to find a painting solution to it.
Archer, paint neatly from the start, and things are easier at the end.
Days are getting shorter-- plus the Daylight Saving Time nonsense, so no time to work outside when I get home in the evenings, unless I want to fire up the Halogen Lamps. I don't. So a little more time for the hobby.
Who recognizes this mini?
This is about 50% done. I'm thinking about a different style of pseudo-metallic for the sword. It's a good mini to experiment on.
Also, started on the remaining ALEPH minis I have, the [left side] Dasyus Hacker ( I use it as a Naga in my ASA) and the Naga Sniper. They are maybe 1/3 of the way to completion.
It's a different blue than the one I used on the Akalis. My eyes tell me that it works better with that green. That is a cool green. (It's a Martha Stewart Craft Paint. Ha. )
Thanks for stopping by, this Doomsday (Election Day reference. No matter who wins, we are doomed.)

Thanks Barzam. I love bright colors on minis. It makes them harder to lose. (gonna admit I don't have 20/20 vision...)
Cleatus they are like that because they are not tumbled. Smooths surfaces and sharp edges mean better randomness-- over the course of 1000's of rolls. But really, It makes them look better IMHO. Like actual gemstones. They are safe to hold, but not to step on. The D4s are less dangerous than others since the apices are clipped, making them less-- a little less-- like caltrops.
Finished the Warrior Familiar (yes, that is what the mini is) A quickie paint job, but A nice way to get back into painting.

The sword did not turn out as nicely as I wanted. But learned stuff, so a win ( a minor win, but I'll take it.)

Ah, so about a 5 1/2 hour drive. Yeah, that's a bit of a distance, even over here. (Except maybe in Alaska. ) A nice little exhibit too.
EDC, nobody but nobody said anything. But forgive them all anyway. The sword, well, I'm learning by doing. Many times pseudo-metallic looks better in photographs than in RL, I think because it becomes 2d at that point ( and NMM techniques are for 2d works anyway.)
Finished another wee robot. This is a Tinbot, and is oddly a controversial mini. It is a marker in game, not a unit, and its inclusion in a box of other figures (Janissaries) set off a bit of a firestorm. Personally, I would have preferred 4 Janissary minis instead of 3 and the tinbot, but, nope. Not to be. It was fun to paint nonetheless.
Freehand on the shield is the Janissary unit symbol. It's about 4mm across. And here, next to the warrior familiar. They make an interesting pair.
Now on to painting proper sized minis again.
Thanks for stopping by.

I doubt that we will Shas. It would be cool if they did.
Finally finished the Ghulam Doctor-- the old one, sculpted maybe 10 years ago.

Not a fan of the mini. I think the reasons are obvious ( things the wrong size like the hands and feet, etc) But it's done. That makes 3 this month. Wow. Some kind of record for me maybe... :S
Now a mini that I do like, more WIPs of the Naga Sniper.

It's maybe 70% done. Painting the hexagon pattern on the arms, a bit of a drag, but I like how they turned out. They look better in RL, when they are not subject to the extreme magnification of the camera. Got to do the face, the hair, the rifle-- a rather inportant part, that, the rifle -- the backpack and then the final highlighting. I should finish before...hmmm... the end of the month.

It would indeed be cool to see how they could feminize the face. One artist at Deviantart has done so.

Ladies are looking great, can see what you mean with the scaling of the body on the older model.
A bit strange but the Naga looks like she has a plain white mask on at present, and it looks good, I know you are just waiting to paint her skin tones, but like the vibe the picture gives. That oriental mask thing, just saying I like it.

Thanks guys.
Shas, that face looks more feline than simian to my eyes. Still, it would be a start. Every other faction has minis with revealed faces for both male and female, even the Wulver girl. That was a whole thing too, all the Infinity players clamoring for a Wulver Girl. Oh, there was a German player who did a cosplay of the Oznat, last year IIRC. She wore the mask though. Here's her thread http://data-sphere.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=1645 She did a Tohaa cosplay too.
Cam, the mini represents a unit that is essentially an Android. Here is a side by side of my painting and the studio painting.

You can see that I kept the pale look. I'm wondering about the eyes though. Maybe a magenta wash over the white dots? I think it looks android-ish enough as is though.
The Naga Sniper is maybe 90% done now.

And the rear view.
You can see that I need to finish the hair, the backpack and the rifle. Then final highlights. That'll make 4 finished minis this month. Speed painting. At least for me.
Thanks for stopping by.
