Dorky video, but lots of OOP Orks and Dwarfs.  And dice throwing.  And music from Conan at the end.

Someone has to do something like this about DakkaDakka posters.  And please include the dice throwing.

I love these guys. Reminds me of the documentary-style nerd video on youtube a while back.

Basement, check. Skinny nerd, check. Fat nerd, eh. Talking endlessly about their geeky hobby, check. Talking endlessly about their named heroes with some sort of backstory that's supposed to impress people, check. Bonus: at 5:45, he says some great things.

I gotta agree with stonefox. This video is great. Kudos to whomever took the time to make and edit it.

While it may be a tad boring to those of us immersed in this world, I'd think this video would be rather intriguing and funny to those who aren't so familiar with the hobby of miniature gaming.

My favorite part was the stirring music while they're setting up their miniatures to start the game which fades away as the two players just sit there and ponder their tactics.

It really highlights how the "build-up" for a game can be rather exciting while the actual game itself is often and very static (or even boring if you're not actually taking part in the game).

I totally recommend watching this thing.

Heh.  That is pretty good.

The throwing the dice part was funny.  He's just so nonchalant about it afterwards.

Somehow its the way he shows us the army as if we are meant to be impressed.

What the heck is impressive about spending a large amount of money and time collecting stuff?

I mean, I know I do it too and I enjoy it, but I don;t expect other people to be impressed by the way I p*ss away my money and time on little bits of lead and plastic!

All that time cooped up in his basement is making his brain wilt from lack of oxygen!

Yep. That is the single defining factor of what makes someone a geek and social slow. It's pretty fun when you get one of those "geek moments" such as when a girl walks into a GW mall store (blasphemy! awkward silence!) and some guy decides it's a great idea to tell her how super awesome his model is - both paint scheme and background. It's not as funny when it's a guy who walks in, as even though it's still socially slowed, you don't get the awkward silence.

The kid is proud of what he does.

No one else may particularly care, but at the end of the day, nobody else matters.

Pity he's a lousy player.

::shrugs:: i guess people have different levels/tastes when it comes to things like these. It's the reason most people THINK that gamers are socially awkward people that can't cope w/ reality... but really we aren't that bad just look at those dedicated MMORPG players.

I didn't see wargamers on that chart, Nyarly.  Did I miss it?

I'm not sure if the fact that we're on that chart is good or bad.  Well, we must be cooler than furries, so it has to be good.  Right?

Alas, no, but I would say tabletop wargamers fit in the same category of role-playing gamers. Costumed con cows, even if not in fursuits, would be in the same category as furries. Teach you dumb bastards that show up to conventions as poorly dressed space marines, guardsmen or whatever atrocity you chose. Except for that one hot goth chick that went as a Wyche one year. Yowzers.

Historical Reenactors aren't on the chart either.

Mind you, there's nothing geeky about driving round the A31 Farnham by-pass in an M3 half-track, so fair enough.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Black rapper stereotypes* are laughable. Wiggers (and their respective clones in any other race) are even more laughable. The thing is youtube is a cesspool of amateur gimmicks filled with idiots who aren't talented enough to even act in a school play. However, because of the Intratron, you get sites like youtube. It's not all in vain, though; sometimes you get a spark of comedic genius such as the Star Wars Kid or the Numa Numa guy.

Gamers ARE socially awkward.   Some aren't, but it's pretty hard to convince anyone the majority of them aren't.  Of course, you could probably convince some of those gamers who don't have a grip on reality anyway.  Gamers might not be as bad as emo/goth/punk kids with their myspace sites and their circlejerking "everything is dark, everyone hates me, wah wah" socially-braindead mindsets, but they're still on the lower half of the bar.  Even if some of the people you play with may look like cool people, communicate well, have adequate grooming and bathing, they're still socially backwards if the only social interaction they have is with required people (classmates, bosses, immediate family) and their local game club.

*Nearly all of them (see the chart )

Sweet chart. I never made it past level the 4th level, and that was as a role-player.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias
