There's also a massive Zurg's Mothership that can carry the Lightyear drop pods showing up. Not sure if its out yet.

Looks like another Lightyear wave is dropping.

I got the drop pods, they are small, big enough for a single figure, but fine for objectives/escape pods. I like to imagine that Imperial ships carry just enough life pods for the senior officers and maybe a few extra for their luggage.

24" mothership, $45

https://www.amazon.com/Disney-Pixar-Lightyear-Scale-Truck/dp/B09CFXTN6N/ref=sr_1_31_sspa

Space tow truck, scaled for 5" figures (so oversized for 28mm), $20, possible basis for a low cost land train truck.

https://www.amazon.com/Lightyear-Hyperspeed-All-Terrain-Vehicles-Hawthorne/dp/B09PB1MWSC/ref=sr_1_100

Space Jeeps, $17. Scaled similar to the ships for 1" figures, should look fine with 28mm games.

Those are cool. Really great to see land vehicles in the 1" line.

I've seen the 5" scale truck in ships and it's to big for even a Land Train without massive modifications. A very cool toy though.

Kmart Australia has most the Lightyear toy range on sale including the hyperspeed series ships. The Armadillo is down to $20 instead of the $39 they were originally asking.
Hopefully this helps someone. Ive grabbed 1 and there was another 7 on the shelf at my local Kmart so hopefully other stores are as well stocked.

I've got a few of the hyperspeed set.

The big purple Zurg fighter and a few of the Star command (Buzz's faction) fighters. The Star command ships are tiny compared to the zurg ship (about 1/5 the size of the zurg fighter).

Pack of 1.65" (~42mm) GI Joes. I think they made a big mistake not making them 28~32mm but that's OK.

Amazon has a Joe and Cobra VAMP, that should work, I only see the HISS in a 3 pack of 1" cars.

Oh and there's a HISS transformer too

https://smile.amazon.com/Transformers-Generations-Collaborative-Megatron-H-I-S-S/dp/B000OZW7M0/ref=sr_1_1

(But I won't get it since Megatron should transform into an A-10/Cobra Rattler rather than a land bound tank )

Picked up a couple of these the other day, not sure what I will do with them yet. Interestingly they have little metal disks at the bottom which magnets stick to for custom loadouts!

Also saw these at the local Ollies! could make a cool giant squiq.

Star wars figure for scale

Oh and I picked up one of these.....maybe an Admec Knight.......its pretty big.

At first I thought it was just a repaint for Amazon but this one is twice the size of the $25 ones from Target, scaled for action figures.

I've bought one of these for my fronteris landing pad/supply port table. It is massive first off, and an absolute pain to take apart currently as I want to remove the darker grey segment at the bottom and then convert to have it loaded up with 40k containers.

Can you fit a Rhino or Chimera in the back hatch? If so I may need one of these...

I haven't got a rhino to hand, but a chimera is about 3/4 of an inch too wide either side... Shame really as it absolutely wide enough, there's bucket loads of space in there, but the hatch itself it too narrow.

Going to be doing a water gun build myself in the near future.

However, current project is one of these that I have in pieces that I was going to kit bash with the armadillo, but the armadillo will get it's own project in time.

This is being full on sci-fi'd with plasticard panels and greeblies. Unsure on changing the silhouette of the cockpit though, I want too to disguise the identity of the donor model, but I'm unsure on how much to change it currently if I do.

Can't wait to the Thunderbird.

It wouldn't be too much an issue to hide its silhouette in the US but yeah in the UK you have do something it's too iconic.

What about hiding the windows and adding a boxy cockpit to the roof?

I think going angular with the cockpit is the right decision, I just don't know whether to convert the existing cockpit or take it off and go full rebuild.

I'll take some pics later and show you the parts I have to work with. In some ways I want to keep the actual inner cockpit as it has some great details and is the perfect scale, but it also is rounded. I've got all summer to tinker with it anyway (educator) so I don't need to get going with it on a short time frame.

This is the main components that will form the bulk of the build.

Plenty more greeblies than this also, but these will be the main structure, Might keep the bottom part of the cockpit and build an angular frame around it sloping back of to the top of the body on the other section.

Got my Lightyear fighters and yeah, they're a bit small for 28mm.

They'd be fine at 20mm or 15mm.

Going to cut mine up and make a crash to hide the scale issues.

Hard to tell from the pictures, but the one on the left looks like it might work with an opaque canopy. There are a fair number Sci-Fi of universes where the fighters can be pretty small.

So Cool. I've wanted to do a thunderbird 2 up for years. I'd probably just repaint it though as most folks in the US aren't as familiar with the thunderbirds and it's such a cool ship as-is. I've got a small die-cast version that will probably make it onto my 1/144 table someday, but I'd really like to get something huge for 28mm.

Best of luck with the conversion.

I'll post a few updates as I go along with it.

Best part about it is, cost me £8.50 on eBay.

There's a few about super cheap, if you want one, I can see about getting it shipped over to you in the US if the global shipping program is a rip off?

£14.23 posted in the UK here - eBay auction for it

Thanks for the offer. High as it is, the global shipping is unfortunately probably less than it would cost you. I appreciate the sourcing though. It's still tempting...

Could you snap a picture of the main fuselage piece next to a 28mm figure?

Might hold off on the Thunderbird 2 for a bit. Found these two monsters at resale shop.

The second one (maybe ninja turtles?) Is the one I'm really interested in. Could be the basis for an ork spacecraft.

How hard is it to repaint a diecast metal toy for wargaming use????

I really want to start a company now that makes cheap plastic model kits for wargaming purposes. Like those 5 Chinese tanks that sell for 16.

Like for 40K, they made the Leviathan a plastic kit. So they went from a resin kit that takes 5 minutes to glue parts together to a super complicated plastic kit that will take a couple of frustrating hours to build. I like modelling and converting, don't get me wrong. But there is no reason to make things hard for a wargaming kit.

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase.
