And speaking of naval games, Decision Games just released its new WW2 naval rules 'Battlestations! Battlestations!' (www.decisiongames.com).

It's 19 pages of rules and another 30+ pages of ship data. Very fast playing. I've only given them a quick look but they seem pretty good. It will be interesting to compare to VaS when it comes out. My guess is 'Battlestations!' a bit more detailed but perhaps has slightly less flavor and it is more traditional in that it uses a D20 and a D6 and not the 'bucket of dice' concept of VaS.

If all of that isn't enough Omega Games has two new board wargames 'Battleship' and 'Line of Battle' on WW2 and WW1 naval warfare respectively. http://www.omegagames.com/omega/do/home/home

And of course Avalon Hill/WizKids has their new collectible-mini naval game, Axis & Allies Naval Miniatures War at Sea, with pre-painted ships coming soon.

Not sure why all the fast-play WW2 naval games all of a sudden but good news for those who enjoy naval combat.

Those looking for naval miniatures:

Avalon Hill's new collectible naval mini game. That may prove a good source of ships. Hopefully it will be better than their current land mini game where the scale is all off and quality ranges from good to poor. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/aam/waratsea

For regular metal minis GHQ is certainly the best in 1/2400 scale. That seems a good scale for these games. http://www.ghqmodels.com/ Others are cheaper but do not look nearly as good.

For aircraft my favorites are C.A.P. Aero 1/1200 Scale Aircraft. These are roughly a half inch across for a fighter. One or two on a stand would be great for these games. They are big enough that you can tell what they are but still seem to fit with 1/2400 scale or even 1/6000 because it sort of looks like you are looking down on the ships from the planes.

Figurehead 1/6000 ships are very good as well. They are quite small but they give you a lot of ships for your money and are easy to paint. Capital ships are maybe two inches long and have a separate base. Smaller ships are cast with their base and are 1 1/2 inches or so. Here is one resource http://www.ss-sms.com/FHSCAPcat3.html.
