Saw this over at the TMP: the thead is here 1/35 scale military hovercraft. http://www.hlj.com/showreports/ths06/mil/pictures/dsc03853.jpg No idea on cost, but it looks like a neat alternative to that Forgeworld mega-chimera thingy.

The hover truck might be interesting as a Tau unit, but the Imperium doesn't make skimmers with armor like that. Could be awesome with some tracks worked into the bottom, tho.
I'm gonna die laughing as soon as a Tachikoma-to-Defiler conversion pops up. Someone needs to try entering one in the Games Day open competition.

I swore someone already tried that on another thread/board. They used one of those blue thingies and tried to argue it as a marine vehicle or such. Widely shouted down-personally it makes my toes itch.

Various Tachikoma models have been around for a while though I'm always for more mecha figures. As far as Tachikomas usability in 40k, I'd say they make better Tau, Eldar or Necron custom vehicles than Marines, though if someone themed an SM or Guard army around them I wouldn't mind in the least. I'm also stoked about WAVE's new Maschinen Krieger offering, though (due to scale, I do not think it would make for a good conversion into 40k.
I dig that hovertruck, at least everything but the blowers on the bottom (and those seem to be removable). I'm wondering how much the M1A4 armored car kits are going to run, those would make excellent bases for Ork battlewagons. Remove the front hood, replace it with a deth-rolla, orkify the sides and violla! Battlewagon!

I Second that (or third it even). Hobby Link Japan is a great store and very reliable. I've ordered loads of Gundam master grade Kits there over the years. One question though what size is 1/144 scale? Thats a really cool hover tank but how big is it when constructed? I'm guessing its too small for 40k? As if its in scale with the gundam master grade kits it would be about 5 - 8 cm? Thats tiny. Also how big is the Ghost in the shell kit? Just realised, the kit in the original link is not the same as the kit in the link underneath. The first one is a plastic 1/35 Scale, the second is a resin 1/114 scale. My mistake.

This kit (1/35) will be 5,500 yen, thats 24 pounds Sterling or 45 Dollars US. Released in December and available from HLJ. It comes with the figures and the Tank. Looks like a good kit, but how big exactly is 1/35? I've never collected military kits before only 28mm heroic vehicles. Would this be too big for a 40k transport choice?

1/35 is a little large compared to GW's over exaggerated and mis-proportioned 28mm "Heroic" scale (which has hands, feet, heads and weapons much larger in proportion to the remainder of the figure). True 28mm corresponds to 1/56, but given the aforementioned exaggerated figures, 1/48 scale models fit best. This isn't to say that you can't use 1/35 kits with 40k, you just have to be careful to remove some of the things that will look out of place/scale. In this particular case, I think the 1/35 hovertruck will work fine, as there aren't any scale busting wheels to destroy the illusion and you can leave the crew off. It will be a big vehicle, however. As an aside, 1/35 is almost the same scale as the 54mm Inquisitor figures, (54mm corresponds to 1/32 scale) but as before, the exagerated features makes matching some things impossible. For example, the weapons are so large that even 28mm 40k figs (ostensibly 1/56 or even 1/48 scale) have to go all the way to 1/20 or larger scales to find side arms that match the massiveness of their weapons. It only gets worse with the Inquisitor figs...

Thanks Narly Thats very helpful. So roughly in inches how long do you think the 1/35 hover tank would be? FW super heavy size or GW Land raider size? Question is will it look really silly next to my GW Tanks? Especially Tau Tanks. I want to chop this up and covert it as a devilfish alternative for my human Tau allies. However would it look stupid next to the Skyray and Pathfinder Devilfish?

I have to second the request for actual dimensions on the 1/35th scale model. Has anyone dug those out yet?

I haven't a clue what the actual size will be, all of my previous comments regarding scale are based on my experience building various scale models & figures (from Tamiya tanks to GW Space Marines). But my guess is it's going to be closer to FW super heavy size than Chimera/Rhino sized.

Hence my suggestion it'd be a good alternative to the uber-sized transport for the Death Korps that Forgeworld just made. The one that can carry 50 guys.

Well I've Pre ordered the 1/35 hover truck. My plan is get it, start to build it. If it's too big finish the kit, paint it up nicely and use the supplied figures. If it looks reasonable continue to convert it up and use it for 40k. I've emailed HLJ about the dimensions. They had guys at the Tokyo Hobby Show who have probably seen it in the flesh so to speak. Hopefully they will reply with measurements soon. As soon as I hear back from them I'll post up the dimensions here. Also if anyones interested heres the link to the preorder page at Hobby Link Japan. http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN948085

Okay The figures are 2" tall so the large photo on HLJ will actually be pretty close to scale. Roughly the Hover truck would be 10" long and roughly 4 - 5" wide.
