Fate-Controlling Farseer

Fort Campbell

I made a rather differant Marine list for my games last night, a CC oriented army, instead of a Shooty list.  Took See but Don't be Seen, and Take the Fight to Them (And by their very nature, I can't believe that they don't go together in the trait list).

Mine:

Epistolary: BP, FW, Jump Pack, Art. Armor, Teleport Homer, Might Of Heroes
Master: Terminator Armor (and stupid me forgot to give him any weapons, got lost in the shuffle on the Army Builder)
Termi Command Squad: 2 ACs

Dreadnought: AC, DCCW, SB

Tac Squad (8): Melta Gun, Vet Sgt w/ PW, PP, Teleport Homer, CCW's, Infiltrate
Tac Squad (8): Melta Gun, Vet Sgt w/ PW, PP, Teleport Homer, CCW's, Infiltrate
Tac Squad (8): Melta Gun, Vet Sgt w/ PW, PP, Teleport Homer, CCW's, Infiltrate
Tac Squad (6): Flamer, Vet Sgt w/ BP, PF, Bolters
Razorback: TLHB

Assault Squad (10): 2PP, Vet Sgt w/ PF, PP

Devestator Squad (8): 2PC, 2ML, 4 Ablative Wounds
Predator Annihilator: HB Sponsons

Both games, I was really hoping that an Alpha mission was not rolled.  Both games in was...  The first one, it wasn't so bad.  Alpha Cleanse against a foot slogging Eldar army.

He had
Autarch: Swooping Hawk Wings, Banshee Mask, Singing Spear
Farseer: Doom, Guide, Jet Bike, Witch Blade, Runes, and Helm
Wraithguard (5) w/ Warlock and Destructor
Striking Scorpions (9) w/ Exarch and Crushing Claw
Pathfinders (5)
Dire Avengers (10) w/ Exarch and Dire Sword, SP, Blade Storm
Dire Avengers (10) w/ Exarch and Dire Sword, SP, Blade Storm
Storm Guardians (?) w/ Warlock and Enhance
Warp Spiders (5) w/ Exarch and TLDS
Swooping Hawk (9) w/ Exarch and Sun Rifle
Dark Reapers (5) w/ Exarch and ML, Fast Shot
Wraithlord w/ Brightlance

With the new Dex, he's still trying out army builds.  It was actually the first game I played against him where he had no tanks on the table.

I had first placement, so I used it to my advantage, and put my Devs as close to the center as possible, in a level 2 building that had line of sight of nearly the entire battlefield (most specifically, his Dark Reapers).  Since I didn't get to Infiltrate, my boys had to hoof it.  I had one 8 man squad sit hidden in a building out of LOS within my table, to hold the quarter at all costs, and provide a little suprise if something got within range.  I had my Assault Marines(w/ Lib) and another Tac Squad line up to push right onto another table quarter, and get behind cover from his AP 1 Pathfinders. My RB Tac squad, and the other tac set up towards the center to push into the right table quarter closer to his lines.  My Pred and Dread set up behind the building that my Devs are on, to push into the other unnoccupied table quarter.

Throughout the game, I managed to force the Dark Reapers to run off the table on first turn (never fired a shot), and then got the Swooping Hawks to do the same in turn 3.  Destroyed the Wraithlord with missiles, without him doing a thing.  Destroyed the Wraithguard and Warlock with my Terminator squad (5 rending shots, and 3 regular AC shots, never even bothered rolling for Storm Bolters).  Striking Scoprions fell to the Assault Cannons as well.  Autarch was blasted from the sky by my Assault Squad (which was then hit really hard by the charging Storm Guardians, Librarian saved the day though by wiping the Guardians out to the man 2 rounds of assualt later).  After his Farseer popped my Dreadnought, I targeted my Predator at him, and he ate a face full of Twin Linked Lascannon instant death.  One Dire Avenger squad was destroyed by my Dreadnought and Predator, while the other was destroyed by the remnants of my RB Tac squad and the accompanying CCW Tac squad.  the final unit to drop was his Warp Spiders being blasted away by two missiles.  By turn 4, he has 1 scoring unit left on the table, the Pathfinders, while I was holding mine, and the right table quarter.  Only reason they where still alive was because of their 2+ cover save where they were.  If he tried to move them to contest my winning table quarter, they'd have been mowed down, while allowing me to move in and take his table quarter as well.  He conceded at Turn 4.

His build lacked mobility and fire power range.  I was being eaten alive in CC (storm Guardians with Enhance are nasty...) until my Terminators came onto the table.  At which point the Assualt cannons just destroyed his army.  Given the fact that I didn't get to use my army in the way it was intended, I'm pleased with the way it worked out.

Game two will be a briefer description since I remember even less of it.  In brief though, from the start I was pretty much convinced I was going to lose in a horrible, horribe manner.  Seek and Destroy, Alpha.  A whole foot slogging army that needed to close into assault with a solid line of fire power...

He had:
Crisis Suit (3) with a Shas'O
Crisis Suit (3)
Fire Warriors (12)
Fire Warriors (12)
Fire Warriors (12)
Kroot (a lot)
Pathfinders (5) w/ Devilfish
Broadsides (2)
Broadsides (2)
Hammerhead w/ Ion Cannon

He had more scoring units from the start, so I had that against me, as well as to having to run across the table.

Things where pretty nasty until I got my Assault Squad across the table.  He made the mistake of getting his Shas'O into assault range, and with MoH on my Powerfist Sgt wiped the unit out.  I couldn't consolidate into any other units, so I tried to back up behind some cover.  Didn't make it...  In his round of firing, the entire assault squad got wiped out.  But the Librarian survived, and he was within range of hopping down the entire line of his forces.  On top of that, my Terminators come in.  They teleport w/in 6" of the Librarian, and destroyed one of his broadside units, while the Librarian just puts himself into the firewarriors and Pathfinders with 7-9 PW attacks a turn.  By the end of the game, I had 3 scoring units left to his 1.  He conceded at that point as well, because the only thing that could happen was me wiping his last unit out before he could get into range of mine.

All in all, I'm suprised how the games turned out (if you saw how bad I was at rolling dice, you'd understand as well).  The Tau opponets critical mistake was in letting me get to his Shas'O.  It went all down hill for him from there.  As for the Eldar, he just had horribly bad luck.
