Excited to see the speeder progress and that is quite a block of elves. But your plan sounds good, always one color on all 52 between other projects will give steady progress without getting bored by them.

Interesting tactic painting the elves. I could give that a shot on some of the not so motivating game pieces!

Me too, the speeder is a cool model, can’t wait to get some paint on it! Yeah, hopefully it’s manageable just doing one colour at a time, we’ll soon see.

I’m keen to get the Elves sorted, they’ll only have taken 30years, so it’s probably about time! I suspect the Mithril Silver stage will be deadly though

In other news I finished off the Ad Mech guys. I decided to go with red for the cables and blue for the lights/weapons. I even tried a bit of OSL, though it came out a bit stark in places. I think I let it pool a bit too much and the blue I used has quite a strong pigment. Anyways, here’s what they look like;

Even to the end I haven’t found these guys particularly enjoyable and I think it tells with the limited effort I’ve gone to in a few areas. Still they look decent enough and I’m glad to have them done. That gets me down to single figures of Blackstone Fortress minis left to paint, with 8 left (2 big drones, 2 escalation adventurers, 3 Plague Marines and 1 Zoat). Next up though will be Mithril Silver on the Elves, doing it first I can just slap it on quickly is my theory. After that I have to Void Panther Tacticals, some AoS Khorne lads or some BattleMasters Chaos Archers unless I prime some other bits I have laying about.

Thanks for looking

Nice!!, the weapons really stand out with that blue, and the yellow is done perfectly. Very nice color choices, excellent work over all with these two guys Gobert.

Nicely done on the OSL, I think it's very effective on the servitor's shoulder lamp. As always you add great detail to all the gauges and screens, really elevates the final model.

Cheers Guardling, BSF has mostly been fun, and it feels good to be on the home stretch with them all. I’ve basically not decided on the bases. I was planning to follow the Midwinter Minis tutorial, but I’m also tempted by a 3D printed set of BSF bases. I’ll need to decide at some point soon I guess.
Don Qui Hotep wrote:Nicely done on the OSL, I think it's very effective on the servitor's shoulder lamp. As always you add great detail to all the gauges and screens, really elevates the final model.

Thanks Don, the OSL looks pretty good from the front, but much less so from the top. Still it’s only like the 3rd or 4th time Ive tried it so I’m not too upset. The gauges and screens were about the only fun bits in these two.

Speaking of fun, I’ve just got the first colour on the Elves;

I absolutely nailed the consistency on the Mithril Silver, it flowed nicely but gave good coverage on the chainmail. The helmets needed 2 coats, but even with that it took about 2 mins per mini. Not bad for an evenings work.
In the background you might have spotted the assault marines. They and the Land Speeder crew are getting their chapter and squad markings applied. I’ve cast all of the chapter symbols, but have about 5 of the slightly wonky assault markings to go.
I’ve pretty much decided on my next painting project. I’m gonna crack out some 2nd Ed Metal Blood Angels. I only have 3 to do to finish the squad I started at the beginning of this hobby stint!
Thanks for looking!

Great work on the Poxwalkers and Ad Mech since I last checked in Gobert, the OSL works well with the yellow without turning green and the highlights on the yellow are spot on.

Also, that's a lot of spearmen!

They’re just the reinforcements;

They join the other 40 hiding in the current army. The archers join the 10 I already have too. It’ll be a half decent sized force when I’m done even if it doesn’t have any special units beyond a few Silver Helms.
Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll wrote:Honestly, getting those metallics to flow smoothly and still cover is such a challenge, so satisfying when it actually works!

Yeah, they’re honestly quite tricky for me to get right. This is probably the first time metallics have been pleasurable, so much so, that I didn’t even have music or TV for this session!

Cheers TH, it’s good to get them off the painting desk so I can move on with something else. I need to decide how I’m going to split the Spearmen, I have 52 and ideally would have 5 or 7 on the front row so the command group is central.

Yeah, it’s going to take me quite a while I reckon! Hopefully before the end of the year they’ll be done, though I fear that might be wishful thinking!
Viterbi wrote:One color down, how much more to do?

Quite a bit; wash metal work with blue; flesh base, wash & highlight; red base & wash; hair in black (unusual for high elves I know!), pouches in blue & wash, clothes in grey and highlight; base, black and 2x dry brush. So about 8-10 sessions I possibly. I tend to do a project every 4-6wks so yeah, optimistic to think I’ll be done within the year!

I did make a start on my next project. Back to my roots with some Blood Angels; the Sgt, squad leader and heavy weapons guys from my first squad, along with the Company Standard bearer. Sgt and Standard have banners that I’ll reuse, but may do up a little. I cut those off for safety though! So far I’ve just for the Mephiston Red and Agrax wash;

I decided to just paint over their previous scheme, as they were pretty light on the layers and as Squidmar put it, not every model is for golden demon... or something like that. The sentiment is right, it’s for fun, and the change to the level of detail is minimal, so why bother stripping unless it’s crazy thick!

Thanks for looking!

The flesh-colored poxwalkers look good, with some nice realistic-looking diseased flesh. Yellow admech is also a nice change of pace rather than the standard designs. It certainly gives them a very different feel. Also, great to see that classic landspeer. Nice to know not everyone has abandoned 30 years of space marine history for the Primaris. Those High Elves are also a sight for sore eyes. I was just flipping through a few old issues of White Dwarf from the late 90s and digging those old elf models.

Nope, this Heavy Weapon is an aimed shot! The Elves will be a long term project, but I’m making decent progress on the Angels, so they may make it back to the painting desk soonish...

Thanks Riddle, vaguely realistic was what I was going for, though I should have done some gore on them too! It’ll be a while before I let go of classic Marines, plenty of old paint jobs to redo as well as some Void Panther expansion plans. I do have the Primaris from Indomitus, which I’ll eventually paint as Dark Angels I think. I don’t suppose you found the WD article where I found the recipe for the Elves? I think it was an Andy Chambers scheme back in the day.

More progress tonight on the Blood Angels. Though I can’t promise it to be exciting, just building back up to Mephiston Red on all of them and Evil Sunz Scarlet on the first 2.

I'd have done some more, but the devastator armour is really fiddly and took ages for each layer and the Grand Prix was interesting

Thanks for looking, sorry for the full update!

Cheers Viterbi. Firing from the hip is the coolest way, that’s for sure! That said, there’s no school like old skool! I think there’s a place for both, but not in 2nd Ed

It’s been pretty busy in chez gobert this past few weeks and it doesn’t show any signs of getting quieter. Weekends and evening will soon be taken over by decorating and door hanging, as our extension nears completion. I’m not looking forward to 3 coats of varnish on the door edges!

Tonight though I managed a little bit of hobby time, getting the Evil Sunz Scsrlet layer finished. Then instead of starting the highlights I got all of the black bits basecoated and made a start on the Leadbelcher.

I would’ve got more done but I had to fix a couple of bits of drop damage; reattaching HB guys bolt pistol arm and the Standard Bearers plasma pistol. Then as I was about the start Leadbelcher on the HB he slipped from my grasp and his Heavy Bolted flew off! Remembering 25yr old trauma I decided it would be easier to pin it rather than rely on superglue alone as I did back in the day. By that point my movie had finished (I’d almost forgotten how good Dark Knight is!) so I packed up for the evening. I might do some more tomorrow night depending how long my timesheet takes to complete.

Until next time, thanks for looking!

Hey mate, I'm always impressed with your output and tonight is no exception.

I've just caught up on the last three pages and it was great to follow your journey with the yellow. I think you've really nailed it in the end with that final highlight. They have a really neat old 'eavy metal style to them. I think the OSL is a nice touch, too. The dark blue splash makes the source light seem brighter. I can totally see these guys crawling through the streets or sewers of some busted up hive world or the inside of a space hulk.

Glad to see the Blood Angels back too! Love the old banner bearers. More paper flags in the works?

Keep it up mate, thanks for sharing!

Yeah, not much time this week, will have a few hours tonight and maybe tomorrow whilst watching the F1 Portuguese Grand Prix. The builders finished the plastering on Friday, so next week will be ceiling and wall painting, though hopefully culminating in a giant Great Wave of Kanagawa wall sticker which were quite excited about!

Thanks tauist, welcome to my plog! The Poxwalkers were pretty fun, I’m starting to think I should revisit them as I forgot to do gore on their wounds and weapons. Sadly, I’m not sure the old elves would kitbash much beyond using Lumineth shields. bBeing single piece, they’re pretty hard to convert to anything.

Thanks Yorkright, your recent Assault Angel was cool, hopefully these boys come together as well as he did. I think the banner bearer was from 95/96 http://www.solegends.com/citcat1995-6/cat19956p037-02.htm" target="_new" rel="nofollow">apparently. Which somehow was 25/26 years ago...

Flattery will get you everywhere tzurk! I’m pretty sure I cant claim any ‘Eavy Metal standard of painting, but I’m having fun at least. The OSL looks better to me each time I see it, but it was a bit half-arsed. There are banners for the flag poles, the Sgts isn’t particularly special, just the usual red BA symbol. The Standards was drawn by a 15-17 year old gobert and I still think it looks pretty good. I might add a few more bits to it, but it will definitely be going back on.

Not much progress to report on as yet, but I finally got the display base for my Void Panthers ready for Priming. I even threw on some black primer;

Apologies for the photo being a bit tricky to see, but you get the gist. The shiny clay big was a screen protector that I cracked, but it seems to have been too good at its job and is too smooth. I might have to give it a few gouges to rough it up. The other flattish bit is rolled and dried out play dough, I have to say I’m quite impressed with it! I might pop outside and give it a zenithal blast of grey then white later on.

It’ll be back to the Blood Angels tonight whilst watching the F1 Quali

Thanks for looking at pictures of black stuff!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And I totally forgot to take pictures of the board post it’s grey and white zenithal basecoats. You’ll just have to trust me that it looks good!

I did though do some proper painting with brushes and everything. The Angels got their metalwork painted in Leadbelcher and Retributor, each of which also got their washes of Nuln and Agrax. Instead of knocking it on the head at the washes I painted the Sgts face and hair, along with all of the purity seals in bleached bone. The Sgt then had his hair dyed blonde with a yellow wash. Still not wanting to go to bed I also hit his face with some Guilliman flesh. And then I did call it a night;

Ok, so I didn’t call it a night there... I was a good boy and did my exercises... still not content to go to bed I’m sat here typing this for you good internet folks! So now I am off to bed as it’s now early hours of Sunday

Thanks for looking!
