Looks like the GW share price is on the slide again after a prolonged bubble following "better than feared" financial results published at the end of July. I wonder what has got the shareholders jittery this time?

Dead cat bounce: A temporary recovery from a prolonged decline or bear market, afterwhich the market continues to decline. as far as why this is, if you recall earlier this summer when the GW yearly financial statement was released, their market recovered quite well. They did, afterall, maintain their dividend even though they went through a 73% slump in full year profit. That makes the investors happy enough to buy more stock. I am certain Kirby bought the huge amount he did to help solidify his position after such horrible sales. He now owns 2 million shares bringing his ownership of the company to 6.1%. To be honest though, the 60 point fluctuation isnt a tremedous flux. With the new eldar codex out, you will see more hapy players out there. I dont think you'll see another high this large until next year assuming that the releases GW puts out are sufficient to get them out of debt and recover accordingly. If it ever hit 200 pence, I would consider this stock a definate buy for short term gain. It cant get much lower unless the company goes under. There hasnt been any news related to GAW stock since the end of july, so its really hard to say whats up here without wild paranoid specualtion from non investors. Now here is something to think about. Notice how all the unslod crap like shining spears are getting a boost in rules? Or that they are now making a codex for a high price, high favred consumer? Terminators and landspeeders come to mind. I think the release schedule they have is for short term profit gains to ensure they stay stable, if not to put them into bull market completely.

No. Economic slowdown in the US. Housing starts are WAY down, and general GDP growth has slowed.

It'll be interesting to see the impact of the results for the 6 months to the end of November when they are released in January.

I'm looking forward to their January reports as well. Part of that bubble, methinks, was caused by GW's willingness to pay out dividends even if it meant taking out a loan, which, frankly, is bad business. The other part being Kirby & co gobbling up the stocks (more golden parachute for them when the inevitable occurs). I bet volume has been fairly slow after the bounce, excluding the time frame where some of the older (non-exec) hands were dumping options at a slight profit.

I'm quite interested in how GW does in Q4. IMHO, GW is up against some stiff competition:
1. Nintendo Wii and Playstation3 for the kiddies 2. Warmachine / Hordes / Flames of War for the vets
And on top of this, considering how absolutely piss poor the Eldar battleforce is as a "force" compared to other battleforces... GW's "target market" and "featured product" will be seeing a lot of churn -right after Christmas- as the kids loose interest and sink hours into their new game systems.

What sort of deal does GW get out of their videogames? I know DoW is popular enough, and more warhammer fantasy games are coming. I would think that'd help

And now I hear that Che Webster is no longer with GW. Tim Huckleberry was "let go" last week. Further job cuts at the Gee-dub cannot be a good sign methinks.

@Kikkoman: GW licence their IP to the development company ina aprtnership arrangement. i.e. they get a licence fee from sales. I'm not sure of whether it is a "one off" or whether it varies with volume sales, but in any even, 'puter games are a short term phenomenon - they sell well for a few weeks/months and then they are old hat and don;t sell at all. GW's revenue from these sources is likely to be limited therefore, particularly as they have to outsource development to another company who will take their slice of the profit.

WHAT?!? Tim Huckleberry let go? They need to be jettisoning people like Tom Kirby, but of course, nobody (re: no board of directors member) sees any fault in him for captaining GW into the ground...

I am sure they are still making enough profit for the directors/owners. As long as we keep buyin. Unfortunatly our views are not the majority viewpoint. that would belong to the kids who buy lots of stuff from GW. Thats there main cash cow not embittered and disillusioned vets like me.
