Poached from Warseer (where it was poached from Direwolf): Hey guys, I saw that some of you are unhappy that our 2007 GTs are close to/at the same time as some of the Indy GTs. This was definitely not our intention. However, as those of you who plan event know, sometimes you are very limited by availability of dates and venues to plan things. We did our best to secure dates that didn't conflict with other events in the same area. I know it sucks that the Alamo and Baltimore are on top of each other next year, but that was our only option. Plus, since one is in Maryland and the other in Texas, we figured it wouldn't be too big of a problem. We did try our best to find out what other possible conflicts there were. However, when we had to sign some of the contracts and finalize our plans, many dates for the Indy GTs had not been finalized yet. On another note, here is what is going on for the 2007 GW Tournament circuit. The new issue of White Dwarf (shipping to subscribers now) has the full details of how the tournament system works. This info will be on the web in a week or so as well. I don't want to get too in depth here, so here is a basic rundown. There are 8 events next year that make up the Circuit. At each of these events, where you place in the overall rankings gives you points. So for example, if you place 1st in the Vegas GT you get 450 pts, 2nd 375, and so on down to the 100th place. These points are tracked through the year and we will crown an overall champion at the end of the year for each Game System with a trophy, prizes, etc. Each tournament in the circuit will be done RIGHT. Full web and WD coverage. GW judging (at our events, the independent events in the circuit are independent and follow their own guidelines), prizes, Studio Guests, side events and activities, new releases, and more! The circuit is: Adepticon (5 tournaments there) Atlanta Games Day Las Vegas GT Baltimore Games Day Chicago GT LA Games Day The Necro Baltimore GT If things go well this year, the circuit will be increased next year with other events based on your feedback. I hope that you find this information exciting. We are really making every effort to go all out on these events and to make them extra special (and as "old school" GT as we can!) Thanks for your time, Jeff Hall GWUS Community Manager Speaking as an observer of (rather than a player in) GWGTs, I am mostly excited to hear about a renewed commitment to giving these events proper coverage.

I too am hoping for a seattle GT if only because the drive is less. But that said, I really think GW should concentrate their efforts on making FAQS updated for the current codeices that arent in 4th ed yet before lauding its GT's. Its hard to be competitive if everyone is not on the same page.
Which is why I fear for GT's next year. But it will prove a point to GW to make a clear showing of why the FAQ's need updating, not only for competitive play, but for the more widely used beer and pretzels night.

Great news. I'll be attending the Baltimore GT, at the very least. Hopefully it really is "old-school." The Vegas GT sounds like a great time, although I suspect the timing might be bad for me.
The circuit trophy is a nice idea. Good job, Jeff.

There's the link to the US GT Page. Looks like they're tracking stats from the Baltimore RT at Games Day and the GT they're having separately. us.games-workshop.com/news/events/other_events/tournamentseries/default.htm If I don't end up in Japan on business in either time slots, I'm going to have my Ultramarines done in time for it.

I am a little surprized at the Las Vegas GT. They never had an event there before. The Las Vegas gamers put on an Ironman RTT in September, and they have a huge homefield advantage. All of the LA guys that come up are up all night gambling and drinking, and pretty wasted durring the RTT.
Also they should have Kubla Con (In San Francisco) on the indy GT circut. They put on 5 games over the memorial day weekend.

I don't think it affects the Necro one bit. All they are doing is taking the rankings from the GT's, converting those into a points system, and keeping a running total throughout the season. All that needs to happen is for the organizers of the Indie GTs to send GW the information after the tournament is over.

Well, given that two of the eight tourneys are held in the south (the Atlanta GT/Games Day and The Necro), I don't think they're showing the South any lack of love, just Texas & thereabouts. And while I would like to see another event in Dallas or Houston, the Indy Circut has several events in the region, from the Hillbilly Invitational to the Alamo, amongst many others. And they don't require GW-only figs. Speaking of which, I like Dicemonkey's question: How does this affect the Necro? Does GW Officialdom cancel the Necro's past policy of allowing figures from other manufacturers? I'm pretty amazed that this years GW circuit is this robust. While it seems a little disappointing that half of them coincide with Games Days, that's a terrible environment to play in with your own figures and greasy little grubby handed munchikins running amuck, I figured that that's all that would be available in 2007 (events only at Games Days, rather than four additional GT events). What I would like to know is when, if ever, GW is going to start going back to major game conventions like GenCon and Origins.

Hope to see some kind of rules packet published (maybe a FAQ for the Tournament?).
Also would like to know the ruling on WYSIWYG with respects to chapter colors (ie Can I have my Ultramarines "count as" a trait DIY army).

There will be a full rules packet available within the next month. We are working on it now. In addition, there will be a tournament FAQ published detailing many aspects of how things will work, common questions, etc.
As for your WYSIWYG question, yes, you can use your Ultramarines with traits. As long as everything is clearly spelled out on a list and detailed to your opponent, you shouldn't have any problems with something like that. Now if you tried to say your Ultramarines are Empire guys and use them in Warhammer, you would have some problems... :-) Jeff Hall GWUS Community Manager

Judges/Officials at the events are going to be busy with the amount of items that haven't been resolved over the last few codex releases. Will some of these be covered in the FAQ you are referring to above or is that just a tournament rules FAQ? There is a rumor about no more composition scoring as well, is this correct? So no matter how overly tooled your army is, it's going to be scored the same? This one is more heresay than anything else so far. thanks again, will be good to see GW get back on a good Tournament system again

Army FAQs come from the design studio, so we can't do anything on that end. That is not something the US business is responsible for. Our FAQ will purely cover GT related items.
As for the composition of armies, there will be no comp scoring in the Grand Tournament. You will be scored on Battle, Sports, and Painting. It will likely be a 50-50 split of Battle and Sports/Painting. Any army list that is listed in the GT Rules as approved will be able to take any option available to that army. We will not be scoring anyone based on what they take. My view on that is if we had comp scoring, we would be in essence telling people what to bring and what they should include in their army. That is not our place to say.
Hope that makes sense! Jeff Hall GWUS Community Manager

Hey Jeff, Is paint scoring in the GTs going to be done by a judge or the players? Personally, as with Adepticon, I would prefer to see a judge score the armies. Talk to ya' later, Greg

Maybe GW central will look at the feedback from the players and decide what inclusion to make from all of that in a future FAQ for armies. I am impressed. I am even tempted enough to make a date for Adepticon and visit the old 'hood to see friends and get some quality gaming in. I cant wait to see the rules packet! * Ahhh! The paint scoring will be done by Judges. Players will not be scoring other players for anything other than Battle and Sports.
The FAQ will not impact other tournaments. The information is solely for the GW run events. All Independent events are still Independent. They are just part of the circuit to record the overall placings and points. They still decide on all their own rules and rulings. Jeff Hall GWUS Community Manager

Thanks, Stormboy!
The points are not 100% final yet, be we are thinking of going to 1750 for 40K and 2000 for Warhammer. We decided to work in 250 pt blocks for something we are looking at for future tournaments.
We haven't finalized missios and scenarios yet, but they will be posted online when we do so you can prepare.
Finally, we are staying with the 5 game format.
Keep checking the Community section of the site for updates. I'll be sure to announce the rules packets here when they go up. Jeff Hall GWUS Community Manager

Mr. Hall, I played in the 2006 GT in Atlanta (finished fourth) and I had several concerns I was hoping you could address with what you think about them either as problems or non-issues.
1. We pay out a lot more to attend these then someone just attending Gamesday but they have time to go to other events and get freebies (like an entire sentinel squad) and the people in the Grand tournament get zip. This is probably the biggest reason I have been considering not attending any grand tournaments this coming year. It seems that I can get a much bigger bang for my buck by just hanging around.
2. A lack of centralized army list checking leads to some problems. I hope you can come up with an efficient way to ensure army list compliance as there was a problem at Atlanta with some of the army lists and it is a little frustrating on both ends of that with the person who had to play the messed up list and the guy who got disqualified for it.
3. Any chance it could be spread over two days instead of one?
Overall I enjoyed my Grand Tournament experience but it just seemed that there really wasn't any incentive to actually pay the extra money for it. Thanks in advance if you can shed some light on what you think of these points.
