What is it?

I'm interested in particular units, and amounts of, but am mainly interested in which of the CLAN lists is the strongest (or does the codex allow the strongest build?)

My strategy is this: I usually don't bring it up in random conversation with non-gamers, unless for some reason it's very pertinent to the situation (which means never).

Thought about sticking this in discussions, and Army lists, but this seemed like the better place.

Feral Orks are the strongest, by far.

They are however only Chapter Approved, and aren't playable in the UK GT's, but they are allowable in the US GT's. Don't know how things are in Australia with them.

Problem is because they're obviously broken and the fact that GW probably isn't going to make a Squiggoth Model outside of Forgeworld, you can bet their list is going to go away with the new dex. I'm sure we'll see an incorporation of some of their units, but not the ones that were hyper effective (Mad Boyz, Squiggoths).

You can look at their rules here: http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/orks/gaming/feral_orks/default.htm

If you're looking for the next strongest list, that will probably stay around with the new dex, that's Kult of Speed. You can get their rules here: http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/orks/gaming/kultofspeed/default.htm

Also, Kult of Speed is probably the cheaper ($$ wise) to buy. You will have to do some conversions for some of the better units (Warboss on a bike, Battlewagons, Gun Wagons, Deth Koptas, etc).

Thanks. I thought I had previously read as much.........

Just incase anyone mistakes me for the influx from GW boards, I'd like to state I've been round DAKKA since very late 2nd/dawn of 3rd. The reason for this newbie type post is that

a) I don't get to play much
b) My mate handed a bunch of unpainted orks, which I was interested in converting into a small force

My strategy is this: I usually don't bring it up in random conversation with non-gamers, unless for some reason it's very pertinent to the situation (which means never).

Not sure if it's UKGT legal, but ork units with looted lascannons and autocannons sounds like a strong army.

Klan lists aren't UK GT Legal anymore, so you can only have 3 Squads of Lootas and they'd take up your heavy support slots.

On top of that, it's a really bad idea.  Lootas have this special rule where if you roll a 1 to hit with a looted weapon, you shot your own guys, who are T4 with a 5+ Armor Save.  Your opponent gets to roll to wound against your boyz with the weapon you fired.  So if you're shooting a Lascannon or an Autocannon your T4 5+ Ork just got hit with a S9 AP2 or S7 AP4 weapon.

The worst part is that Lootas are BS2, so you're only about twice as likely to hit your opponent as you are to shoot your own Squad.  Bad deal all around, sadly.

orks in the team tourney nice. We toyed with the idea of building the 1000 man army for the team tourney just for fun. but the thought of painting that many gretchin scared us away. yes 1000 models in 4000 points. feral orks with gretchin and squig hounds maxed out.

The feral list is probably the strongest, but has a very different feel and I assume plays different than dex orks. Its not as markedly a difference as the K of S, but its there. I've been playing the Death Skull list for a year and a half now and I swear by them. Units of slugga boyz 20-25 with a mek and force field can be quite fun. No matter how much fire you put in them, they just don't die as quickly as your opponent would expect. I always use 3-4 of these in any game. Access to multiple looted vehicles can be wonderful against MEQ armies. A Leman russ with 3 HB and a Basilisk with indirect are my fav. I've only used lootas twice, and as was mentioned they aren't particularly good but I think their more fluff than function. The ability to get long range heavy weapons can be useful, the combo I used was a 10 strong unit with 3 plasma cannons. This is a bit pricey at 205 points per unit, but with a bit of luck can make back its points hopefully frying many marines. Its funny to see the look on a foes face when that small unit of boys, previously ignored unleashs a little plasma death. The beauty of the looted weapons rule means that with any 1s you can remove an extra body and keep firing. If you want/need sniper rifles take a unit of mercenary kroot. Thats 10 sniper weilding kroot, one a shaper (3wounds) that can infiltrate and get a 4+ cover save i woods. I find a unit or 2 of kroot carnivores in an ork army can add some potent midrange firepower without sacrificing very much melee power. Cyborks are almost always a must, stick them in a truck with a painboss and warboss both with claws and start smashing.

The House that Peterbilt

snake bites are a strong clan list, as you get the goodness of ferals (minus squigoths) but can still take mekk boys, killa cans, etc. That's what I'd play if I was to start an ork list now.

snoogums: "Just because something is not relavant doesn't mean it goes away completely."

Iorek: "Snoogums, you're right. Your arguments are irrelevant, and they sure as heck aren't going away."

The Snakebites combine the BS3 of huntas (with rokkits of course) with the ability to get a looted leman russ.

Then stick a Huntas squad it a Battlewagon with as many bolt on big shootaz as you can find.

Sprinkle in S4 fearless Madboyz (that are cheaper than slugga boyz) and boarboyz with a boar riding warboss and gooo get em.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I would not write off mad boyz. They are not an option just made up for feral orks but were once a staple of old school 40k.

Assuming orks get their fluff back there is a lot of very nasty stuff they could be getting in the new codex.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
