Their pretty neat. Granted its only one game, and not nearly all the units, but looking at what he did play with, THeir fairly balanced. His list and some thoughts:

4 dire avenger squads

2 swooping hawk ones

1 maxed harliquin squad

avatar

wraithlord with bright lance

1500pts.

Why anyone would take guardian squads over dire avengers is beyond me. DA have a nice balace of offense and defense when built right. Bladestorm is nice.

Harlquins are a glass hammer. You literally live or die on a '6' roll of the ide. Yeah, I watched them buzzsaw through a unit of marines, but they couldnt kill through a terminator cammand squad, got bogged down, then counter charged by two scout squads and it was over for them. Yeah, I only had the chaplin left out 6, but he lost all the harliquins. Fair trade.

Avatar pretty much is a blood thrister w/o wings. But his key problem is: he moves 6" a turn. You can deal with him like you would a wraithlord: ignore it and manuever around it. I forced him to slog length wise down the board to come to me, while fighting other parts of his army.

Eldar book is nice, what I've seen. Cant wait to face more.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

nice i figure as much, i used to deal w/ wraithlords and avatars by throwing a grot squad into them and stall them all game. but yes just keeping out of range most of the game will defintely hamper them.

i haven't played a game of 40k in a couple of months but thats what i thought about harlies, yes very powerful but no rending and they will be stuck and waiting for a counter attack. Even if i just send a squad or 2 of grots mass attacks will get through harly defences and bring them down right quick.

I do love most of the models though i'm not that sure on the wraithlord knee down..

They were all on foot and weren't mounted?

I'm much more concerned with Mech Eldar with 3 Falcons or a mix of Prisms and Falcons and some jetbik,es or serpent bound DA backup.

Yes. It was a small game of 1500pts. Mech eldar will come sooner or later. He's exploring all his options at the moment.

The unkillable falcons will always be a problem. Jet bikes I dont think will be that much of one. Waveserpents with DA will be a pain, but anything else I'm not sure(wraithguard for durability).

He demolished a IG army previously. We'll see as folks progress.

I had considered taking 40k back up again, but unfortunatly I don't think I will :-/ (Must find new Sci Fi table top)

Kudos to GW for writing a good Codex, however. Things are starting to turn for them in that area I guess.

Codex: Soyuzki - A fluffy guidebook to my Astra Militarum subfaction. Now version 0.6!
Another way would be to simply slide the landraider sideways like a big slowed hovercraft full of eels. -pismakron

Playing an Ulthwe army for the past couple years, I'm still trying to use Guardians as I have a fair amount painted. I can still see purposes for them as opposed to Dire Avengers. Here's a couple examples of how I've used them, but still trying to feel them out.

-Squad in Waveserpent w/ weapon platform; Warlock w/ Destructor. Surprisingly, this unit lays down some decent firepower and you still have the Waveserpent that can lay down a lot of shooting as well.
-Cheapish back rank gun line. I've got 3 squads w/ Missile Launchers coming in at 100 points per unit. There's an Avatar with them so they are Fearless. With them are Warwalkers and a Wraithlord w/ two heavy weapons. A reasonable amount of shooting. There are other elements, but they are mobile. It has a fair amount of longer range weapons as opposed to the more standard 36" range Eldar weapons. Trying to use range to keep out of assault and whittle down my opponent's army.

I see a lot of merit in Dire Avengers, but I want to exhaust my possibilities with my Guardians before I join the bandwagon and pan them.

But, I do agree with you on the fact I truly feel they've done a pretty good job on this codex. It's been quite hard choosing an army with so many fun and usable choices.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.
