I've been working on a scheme for my eldar and need some feedback.

The guardian below is a test model for the new scheme. As a guardian he is all bone but aspect warriors would have their helmets and maybe the backpack vanes painted the primary aspect colour, i.e blue for dire avengers and green for striking scorpions.

NOTE: Except for the undercoat and the wash it was all done with a 20/0 brush. Don't try it, unless you have plenty of time, it gives superb control but sucks for time.

I went to a tourney today and the attitudes advice given was that at first glance it looked bland but on closer examination, top notch.

So where can I add 'extras' to the model.

NOTE:
I don't wan't to go bananas and paint every gem.
Maybe some eldar runes would be good on the vanes.

Any questions will be happily answered...

While looking at the model, the painting is well done, but it needs a secondary color. You don't have to paint too much, but some small bits here and there. With bone, you've got a wide open pallet to choose from. Good luck.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

it might help if the gun was a different color than the trooper. right now it all blends together a bit much. maybe if you did something to differentiate the materials the eldar's outfit is made of. you could perhaps use some varnish to make the non-fabric parts look a little glossy, or even just made the gems look glossy. a light wash might be an easy way to add color and gloss to the gems too. but if i had to pick one thing, i'd say make the gun a different color.

I still have to snow the base.

Great idea on black for the rim. I'll try that.

Snow the base? Ahh!

I was going to say that the darker base makes a great contrast. I don't know if snowing it will improve the model at all.

Very nicely done.
Keep the darker base.
Provide some further contrast, even if subtle (gems, wrist/ankle banners, weapon, helmet).
Some glyphs could be cool as well.

I'm about to paint some Deathwing Termi's and would love to know how you did that bone.

On topic-  I think the weapon needs a different color.

I agree that you want to keep the base dark for contrast. Painting the rim black would probably help that too.

You definitely need some kind of additional color contrast on the figure itself to make it "pop".

Painting the catapult a different color might be sufficient. Painting (at least some of) the gems is a very good idea, if time-consuming. At least do the waystone on his chest; that plus a couple of the other really obvious ones (helmet, forearm, outside of leg) could get you to the level you need.

The idea of some kind of runes or swirl/knotwork on the legs or vanes would probably work, but might be as time consuming as doing the gems.

If it were me, I'd say- base rims black, catapult a different color (or two colors, one of them the bone), and do the gems (especially the waystone and its rim!). It'll look awesome.

personally I like it as is. I dont' know why everything has to have so many colors to be eyepopping, i was totally taken aback when the picture came up and it was very striking at first glance. Gives them a very "ghostly" look. It is some of the best bone color i've seen done lately. If you are happy with the result, then stick with it. The base you have I wouldn't change as it does give contrast to the lighter color armor very well, but I think it's very satisfactory as it stands. Nice work

If you wanted to look really fancy, I would say either black or brown thorned vines (as seen on some vehicle paint schemes) painted from the feet to about the neck line

Good Job! My brother painted some pretty cool Vines on his heavy weapons platform and they looked amazing.
So mabye some vines just on the guardians because the do look a bit bland.

id say, vines or runes. keep it simple though as your colour scheme works well as it is. if you go to mad with colour you will lose the understated look you have achieved.
i have no knowledge of eldar as i have never used them, but if they have runes for different squads etc i would go for that. and pobably in black. i think that would fit nicely

great paint job

wait wait wait wait... huh..?

I think that snow would do fine, but you need some contrast, some black, or deep red trim would do nicely.

Very nice and easy scheme. I think this is a cool-looking guardian.

1) Keep the darker bases. A snow base would, in my opinion, make the model too light and seemingly unfinished.
2) What if you darkened the face plate in the helmet to a slightly darker shade of brown to contrast with the bone? Then, do the shoulderpads and kneepads the same color. Viola! Color contrast with minimul added effort.

Also, how will big things like tanks look painted this way? Have you tried any yet?

The army never progressed as the paint scheme had too many layers.

However with the new washes that may change.

But O&G, BAs and HEs to be done first.

It seems about once a month someone digs up one of my old painting threads (2-4 years old) and comments on it...

snow would make a more comoflage style. would look good. infact, snow over most base types looks good. i love the simplicity of them though!
