I'm seeing some serious Ashley Wood influence in the Kans and Dread. Very nice.

Another version of the basilisk without updating the gun sprue is a huge miss in my mind. Why bother?

Everything else looks pretty good.

Oh, I can definitely get on board with the new Ork stuff! Only thing I'm not too sure about is that the Snazzgun on the Flashgit isn't quite as 'snazzy' as I'd imagined.

Just had a shufty at the Venerable Dreadnought sprues...the front half of the body looks rather interesting. 3 Different 'helmets', 4 different faces for the Sarcophagus itself, but most intriguing of all, should you leave the off, they have sculpted a Marine Torso inside....oooooh. Liking the look of that, and thoroughly looking forward to building one before long.

@Mad Doc - Are the 3 'helmets' anything different than what we might find in a Tactical box?

Absolutely no idea. I shouldn't think so to be honest, as the body in the sarcophagus just looks like any other Power Armoured torso?

Interesting. Will know more around Friday when I've had a chance to manhandle the sprues in person. And maybe build one.

I like the Venerable a bit more now that I've put the pieces together in my head a couple of times and realized that a couple of parts I didn't recognize before are classic style sarcophagus casings.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Most likely not I'm afraid. Sorry about that.

Sprues are viewable on the GW site however. Just a shame they have the back of the 'helmets' showing. Though having said that, they do look like they are swappable for Tac Marine ones, and thus, Chaos Marine ones. Which is nice. Wonder whether it would look daft with a Beaky helmet? My bet is 'probably'.

Though it could look fooking badarse with the Company Champion one...

The Kans really have me fighting the urge to go "green". That and the fact I have some orks currently sitting here unpainted.......

Ugh, SH Terminators and the leaked BA pdf is making it hard to start a 3rd army with BA. :(

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

Thats the only problem with the pics on the GW site is that we can't see the interesting bits i.e. the front of the helmets and the optional covers for the writing on the front.

I'm not too sure on te Deff Dred but the Kans are awsome!

I might well have finally lost it, but does anyone reckon you'd be able to mount the Deff Dread torso in place of the Cab on the Battlwagon? A massive, thundering Battledredd....that could be fantastic!

Whelp, I guess I can finally get a move on my Bad Moonz Kan Wall/Dreadbash army.

Happy times, I think they look sick. Am slightly dissappointed in the Killa Kans getting only 1 of each ranged weapon option, but since Im probably gonna get 3 kits to make 9 KKs, I'll have different squadrons probs (most likely 1 squad with KMB, 1 with RL and 1 with Grotzookas)

Plus the Dredd comes with surplus weapons, so one would imagine Bitz Stores will have a fair amount up for grabs, should you not wish to invest in a Deff Dredd yourself.

As a guy who likes to mess with bitz, I am quite happy to see that we finally have concrete KMB and Grotzooka bitz!

Extra space marine heads in the ven-dread box isn't bad...I see no auto-cannon in there (or in fact any left arm weapons except for DCCW....but there is a plasmacannon arm)

What I'm trying to say is YAY BITZ!

Dredd and Kans - Awesome. I can't wait to get my grubby hands on them.
Ven Dread - Meh. FW ones are still better. I hate the tiny marine heads.
IG Vehicles - To be honest, I can't tell much difference.

What I really wanna know about, is that nice little Battle Missions book that was shown with the black box. Now that would be interesting to hear about.

Well, from what I remember...

Battle Mission, a selection of Missions (two per army) which give you new ways to play 40k. Rather than being about straight up points matches, they are about recreating Black Libraryesque battle scenes, so a bit more cinematic in scope. Apparently (and some might say rightfully) not all Missions suit all armies, so whilst you might play once game which is very much to your armies element, the next game might leave you rather like a fish out of water!

I'm definitely intrigued, as hopefully I'll play against more varied armies.

Kanz are incredible! A really nice mix between the old aesthetic and the new, still recognisably kanz but the shoulders, new legs, ability to pose them at angles, all of that is wonderful. And I like the new legs, I could never figure out how the old ones actually moved, let alone ran.

Shame there's only 1 grotzooka but if I buy 3 boxes I can have 3 rokkits, 3 grotzookas and probably repurpose the extra big shootas into grotzookas or I might do 2 boxes and a sentinel box to kitbash the extra parts with for some variety.

Dread looks good but not as good as the kanz. Lovely bitz though and he'd fix any lack of rokkits woes.

Flash git is nice but just 1 flash git? Give me a plastic box a la the nobz and I'll buy it just to make interesting models. Who cares if they suck if you can make decent looking nobz for other units with pirate hats!!!

Ven Dread is uninspiring although the corpse inside is a nice touch, especially for chaos players that might convert this (in fact it would make a good iron hide daemon prince too, take out the corpse and add a suspended daemon host or lesser daemon model in the middle)

Guard tanks are completely meh. I guess the chimera is a step up but the basilisk is a wasted opportunity.

Oh great. A family photo.

Now my wallett is crying softly in the dark, fearing another beating at my hands tomorrow as I get all the bits necessary to have that on my shelf. Cheers Terrainguy

Just double checked the Forgeworld Price. £35 for the Body, arms £16 each. Not terribly bad overall, and certainly relatively tempting. Oh dear. £67 for big stompy Deff....very, VERY tempted.

Apparently, when you become a Venerable Dread, your pollution output doubles, requiring 2 extra exhaust stacks.

That thing is just silly!

A missed opportunity to get the other weapon options on the frame too. WE didn't need another twin-linked lascannon or missile launcher, but we could have used a twin-linked autocannon... or two!

First of all, since when was the imperium ever efficient technologically? especially when it comes to engine exhaust? A venerable dreadnought chassis is going to be hundreds, if not thousands of years old, wouldn't it make sense for it to have an outdated engine block i.e. 4 exhausts? Regardless, I think they should have gone with an exhaust system similar to the throne of judgement (ornate stovepipes) from the witch hunter range.

Second, why not just buy autocannon parts off a bit website and replace the assault cannon? simple enough enough conversion. Truth is, not many people use autocannons on dreads, they lose a lot of close combat viability in doing so, and GW simply may have overlooked it, because their feedback on marine players may have taken that into account

end rant/opinionating

That venerable kit already has some of my converting buddies chattering away- feel like i should share a choice idea: cut the barrels off the lascannon and use them for the godhammer barrels on land raider sponsons (those of you who want more ornate looking weaponry on your landraiders- sounds perfect for both pre and post heresy players).

First, technology was MORE advanced in the past in the Imperium.

Second, I was KIDDING.

Third, WHY would GW release ANOTHER version of a twin-linked lascannon and missile launcher when we, you know, already have them in plastic? THAT was my point.

Me and some of my miniature buying buddies are chattering away - GW is losing sales on this inferior kit. It could have, and should have, been so much more.

Still, if people vote with their wallets, we'll see fewer dud models (Venerable Dread in Metal or Plastic), overpriced box sets (Goldswords, Bestigolds, etc.) and such.

We'll see though!

Losing sales? When it's exactly £1 more than the current plastic Dread, for a far nicer kit?

Are you quite, quite sure on that one matey? I don't see GW selling anymore of the standard Dreadnoughts once this puppy comes out.
