My local GW seems friendly enough the last time I was there, though they can get a little excitable. Like one employee will always do epic narrations of any battle he's hosting. And it will always drown out any other sort of conversation trying to be had in the store.

I'm guessing since his mom picked him up he was a kid or teenager. These people are in their 20s.

There was one guy at a store I used to frequent who literally had no indoor voice. I never played Warhammer with him, but I could always hear him. He insisted we get some stereos down there and play music, but everyone said things were loud enough as is.

Basically I just hate people who are too loud for the given situation.

I remember this time where I was playing this rather enjoyable game with a nice opponent, there was some soft music on and plenty of refreshments. No sign of annoying kids or fat smelly loud guys either and my minis were busy slaughtering his minis instead of breaking or getting stolen.

Wait, come to think of it, that was in my own basement...
I knew there was a reason I just came to stores to buy stuff!

I hate fat, no, I mean FAT. LARGE, MONSTERS of a human being. The kind of people who's frame's have to tell people to move out of the lane between the table and the shelves of the GW store so he can get past.

Mother of god, I hate that we have like 4 of them at my store.

Why? Do you expect someone to pour black paint all over your minis when your back is turned? Who does that?

This is from today.

I bought a new IG codex last week because someone stole my old one, and it was in perfect condition. So perfect that a redshirt came and asked me to see the receipt, I said I didn't have it, he took it away. After talking to him, he gave it back, but I was pissed.

Other than that, it's been good.

A bit off-topic, but my Space Marine codex is my oldest codex, and I used to handle and read it A LOT, but it has always stayed in the best condition.

I have to say, GW stores are pretty awesome for wargaming. Its the local stores that really piss me off.

For example, I have seen one store charge 5$ an hour just for a single table.

I have seen store owners discourage almost every form of 40k besides the standard roll d6 missions.

But considering the the thread.... I would say the worst experience in a GW store for me would be during an event in which
it was probably 50+ guys (all large and sweaty) trying to crowd around a small table playing a massive apocayplse game.

I showered at home 3 times in a row after leaving that game on turn 3.

We were doing the Luck 13 mega battle and had already started and were well into the 2nd turn (that's like 4 hours right?). And of course since it's GW any little kids who walks in and wants to play his Space Marines HAS to be let in (no list required! ). Normally I'm a good sport about stuff but now the teams are all unbalanced and the forces of Destruction are getting kinda fethed. So to be fair the Manager breaks out the stores Stompa and says it comes in from reserves. Now it's a real fluster cluck. And as if things could get worse some dude walks in with his ENTIRE Ork army and slams down his "Kustom" vehicles (made out of cardboard and all that fun stuff). So now they have 4 Stompas (one with drawn on arms no less) some unrecognizable pile of cardboard and a ton of pissed of players.

The game is over within 10 mintues of the Ork dude setting up. Everyone packed up and left. Good times ;P

ok - so yesterday the douchebag behind the counter told me (just after i returned some FW to the Chicago Bunk) that i should be more aware of what i am ordering from fw since they dont REALLY take returns.

(Disclaimer- This guy was obviously new, i've spent thousands on fw there. I know what i am doing.)

The guy was cordial however, The Bits i purchased were not what was in the FW catalog, which was right there. He certainly didnt need to make the comment like i was unaware of what i was purchasing. I think they should regularly stock FW at least so their own employees know what they are supposed to be selling.

I like playing 40k games against people i can relate to,ex. talk about the simpsons episode, quote similar movies have fun. poke fun at some people(matt. k). I hate games where the people i am playing against are straight nerds, and its all about 40k. And you really want the game to end.

i have really never had any bad experiences at my local gaming store i am the youngest one there, and the league is divided. but i am liked by both groups of people. and no one is too bad except one guy, who just walks in on your game. And says woah you better watch out those railguns can kill your rhino.

Lets see,

Worst experience to date was my friends and I hosting a doubles tourney at the LGS that brought in 14 people or so, then as were ending the tournament the store owner berates us for the "storyline" of the event not being fluffy enough, and not giving him enough "control" over the event. All the while he's doing this while the players are in his store! amazing...

granted, the store owner has not put forth the effort to host any 40k event in about three years so what can you do...

Just this week I was reminded why i shop online:

i wanted to pick up the latest WD for the Spearhead rules.

One store I called and they said their order would be in that day. I figured that was cool, and if they ran out the other store which is near the first would most likely have it.

So I drive to the store and they tell me they refused their order and won't have it for x number of days. No problem, I head to the other store only to find they don't have it either, and can't tell me when they will order more...

Both local stores are over 35 minutes from me. I spent 1.5 hours and gas money to come home empty handed...

The WD doesn't actually have the spearhead rules in it anyway... just gives you a taste and a battle report, and points you on the road to the GW website to download it.

The Batrep sucked anyways.

I think my worst experience was this ten year old, Charlie, who was obsesed with his BA.
The first bad with Charlie was a game I had with him in the gaming area of my local GW. We had begun setting up and he finished before me, immediately he begun making rolls for all sort of Ba rules, like deep strikes and other stuff. And any time he killed one of my Sm, he did a victory dance. #face palm#

Two weeks later I popped in and begun painting my new models. Behind me Gw was doing some event to celebrate the release of something. A huge 40k game. Charlie was getting creamed. Every time a unit of his died, he whined and complained. At first I thought it was funny to see him lose. But ten minutes of this kid losing and him complaining was incredibly annoying. Finally the game ended and he begun painting. But it didn't end there. The next 2 hours was him whining and finding mistakes the other players made.

"Hey when you killed my assault squad you weren't in line of sight and the dice was cocked!"

When I was first getting into 40k, I was playing at the local GW. One of the people playing there in his mid 30's threw a tantrum screaming and swearing at everyone and the staff. That was the last time I played at a GW. I hadn't had good experiences before, but that was the breaking point.

Couple years later, played in a tournament. First person I played against, got creamed from some good rolls right off the bat, then decided to delay as long as possible during his turn to try and run out the clock so it wouldn't be counted as an anhilation against him. He would open the codex, and said he had to read about each of the units I had before he made each move. My friend was at the next table playing someone, who started crying because the loss he just took knocked him out of the top 3 and he wouldn't win any prizes.

For the most part we all stopped playing 40k after that moment, and when we do play miniature games it's just friendly games against each other.

Worst thing I ever had happen to me was when I offered to go nextdoor to the liquor store and by a case of beer, I even offered to share it with the guys who owned the place, hehehe.

Turns out that the liscensing agreement they signed to be able to run pokemon tournements had a no alchol in your store rule. Stupid pokemon.

Most of my experience with the nearby Lisburn store was bad, everytime I shopped there they were very pushy with their sales and not very friendly about it either, plus most of them wheren't into the game it was only a job to them. No wonder it had to close down. The Belfast store is different story great atmosphere with friendly staff who see you as more than just a potential payday. Props to those guys.

The download is the formations.

The WD has the rules: deployment scenarios, etc. does it not?

Yeah. But as it doesn't have the full rules, it can't exactly be described as having 'the Rules'. Kinda. I'll shutup now so we can get back on topic.

Well, I now remember one time that was pretty hillarious and childish.

I was watching a game of Fantasy between a W.o.C army and a Dark Elves army. There was this kid, probably 12-13 years old watching as well. So the kid walks over to a different table and watches for about 30 seconds, and then asks a question to this guy that I would guess was in his mid to late 30's, he was a fatass as well.

The guy immediately throws a tantrum, something about how he doesn't like the kid at all and that they don't have a good history or some bs like that.

So the dark elves player yells at him and says "HEY, how old are you?"

The guy says it doesn't matter

The dark elves player says "Yeah, well right now, you look like your 10 years old. Grow up and act like an adult, you pig"

The fatass guy says "This is none of your business" and he continues his game.

Later, I saw the guy walking out of the store, so I yelled "Hey! Is your mom here to pick you up?"

The guy just scowls at me and left.

Honestly, its those guys who make us wargamers look bad. He made the kid cry, too, which was pretty sad. I even heard him talking bad about the kid behind his back later. What a piece of gak.
