Having good luck in my Marder II. The long 50mm is brutal in lower tier games where I can shoot right through just about any tank in them regardless of range or angle. The downside is that if I wind up in a game with lots of heavies I'm damn near useless. Just upgraded to the 75mm/40 this morning, we'll see how that does in higher tier games.
Is there a way to cycle through targets without being able to directly see them? It's kind of blunting my efficiency as artillery to have to physically see the target to shoot at it.

Umm if you could shoot at targets you cant see, that'll ruin the point of scouts! Unless you saw where the shot came from (stupid tracer rounds). Maybe your radio is a bit weak
Unless you mean clicking a button locks on to another target? Ehh that would be lazy for artillery!

Marder is okay...Hetzer suuuuucks...but the Stug after it is pretty awesome even though it's kind of useless against the high tier stuff. I've got about 125k cred to go before I can but the PZJagd IV.
On arty, not entirely sure what you mean. You don't have to physically be able to see a target on the map to hit them, you can blindfire if you know that they are there. Closest thing to easy target cycling is holding CTRL to bring up the cursor, the right clicking the map on the spot you want to zoom to. You have to wait a sec of course for the gun to retrack to that spot, but it's pretty quick in most cases.
EDIT:
I'm not sure what # my gun is now, but it's a short stubby one that hits super hard, but takes a real long time to reload. I've been able to nail stuff in one shot with a good hit and I've been getting better and turning my tank along with the turret to get to the targets quicker. I'm tempted to get the gun that you need the big square turret for, but I think I'm just gonna blow through and get the KV3 and leave this tank far behind.
Yeah, when I did the KV, I used the HE gun (the one that does like 450 damage) with the stock turrent and just got through it as quick as possible. The glacial 15 deg per sec traverse rate of the monster turrent would of driven me nuts.

The next radio I can get is the 7200 XP one. I've got a range of 470m. I'm not trying to magically see where everyone is so I can shoot them. When the scouts find someone I want to hit them, but right now if they're behind a low rise of a building or... anything, I can't pick out their silhouette and lock onto them to start shooting. If I have to physically be able to see what I want to shoot then what's the point of having a howitzer, I'll just focus on SPGs and be done with it.
Unless you mean clicking a button locks on to another target? Ehh that would be lazy for artillery!
Most games with auto targeting have a button you can hit to cycle through available targets.

The Marder II has been surprisingly tolerable. It's a lot more likely to be useful than the PZ II or III ever was at that level. Not looking forward to the Hetzer. I've never liked them in real life and not real excited about being stuck in one in game.

Ok, here's what I do in my tank and SPG. When you can actually see someone I will put my targeting reticule over them. They will be silhouetted in red. At that point I can right click and my turret locks onto them. From then on I can focus on driving and choosing when to fire. Well against other arty I know I've seen people lobbing in shots dead on my from behind hills, terrain, etc. There would be no way they could see me and therefore get the red silhouette but they were able to hit me first round. Their scouts had found me and the arty was lobbing in shots from across the map. There must be some way for them to target me that doesn't involve physically seeing me and getting the red silhouette to lock on. That's what I'm wondering.

Ahhhhhhhh...heheh. Yeah, in a SPG, hit shift and it will bring up a special overhead view that you can fire from (or the right clicking on the map I previously mentioned). You'll only see targets that you or a teammate in radio range can see, but depending on which SPG you are in, you can cover most to all of the map with fire. Also if you hit F1 in game it will bring up a screen with all the controls on it as there might be some other stuff you can do that you are missing as well.

I missed that too for a while.
Now I just have to spend some time at the start driving so once people are hiding on the "safe" side of buildings I can still shell them.

Hi guys, I'm following this thread because this game interests me, not planning on getting into the Beta though.
Now I've got 1 question, what is this Leopard you're talking about? I don't know any German WW2 (or shortly after) armoured vehicle with that name, only the MBT of which the first version entered service in 1965, that one can't be it right?

A lot of the midrange German tanks are prototypes.

There are a lot of tanks that have never existed in full production in this game
There are like half a dozen german vehicles that are all VK's. And I dont see any problems with the beta, its basically a full game!

And from what I've heard you're looking at 4 more months of beta so it's not like you're just going to get interested and have the rug pulled.
Now that I know the map trick artillery is suddenly much more fun. Even in my Bison I can immobilize an IS-3. Had a game before work this morning where I killed a T-28 at long range then two Luchs and a Leopard in close.
Combat BISOOOOOON!

Yeah the Leo in game is not the MBT of the same name. It's an experimental tank based on the Panther chassis that in the game is pretty much the best light tank in the game. Super fast and manuverable, nice little gun, and surprisingly resiliant for a light...and it reminds me of a chimera so all the better

Actually it was based off the PZIV. It was canceled because they thought they could produce a recon version of the Panther for cheaper.

No, they didn't. Not that Germany needed another tank type to produce. And in the defensive style of warfare that Germany spent most of the last half of the war in the Leopard would have been of dubious use anyways.

Thanks guys, without that 'VK1602' designation my searches simply weren't fruitful no matter what words I added.
As for why I'm not jumping in now, I've got a little baby daughter and the experience with my little boy has taught me that I'll have precious little free time as it is the coming 6-9 months. It's not all bad though, sure you can't keep up with all of the releases but it's rather nice that all good games go down in price meanwhile, get extra content, bugs are fixed etc. etc.

I'm going for heavy tanks with the Germans. I'm going for the T-44 Soviet side.
The BT-7 is noticeably better in turning and the accuracy on the run is better. It's not huge but the tank is a bit better. I'm loving it though, the dang thing is just too much fun to scoot around in. Sadly this morning I wound up in nothing but upper tier games making me the smallest lowest tier tank in the game. Not a lot of fun when even a close range back shot from my 47mm bounces right off.
