Mister F - I tried a thin wash of Fuegan Orange and its worked quite nicely. Not too bright like the Windsor and Newton orange and red on the boils.

Ize - I cannot wait to get this finished so I can start some projects that I want to immerse myself in. I'm just sucked into the 40k imagery so much more.... I need pipes and back gubbins.

They sound quite interesting, are they vibrant colours?

I'm really happy with the way his face and balls turned out!

Pestitaur of Nurglitch

Ha ha I made you take a closer look at his balls I had such fun with this model. Pretty much done - after taking pics I think the right arm needs a little more Clear Red. I also need to get some Clear Green for the yellow areas and some other bits and bobs. I'm really happy with the way his face and balls turned out!

Mister Feral - I will get back to you soon...just about to watch a film

Heh, those enlarged ears are funny. I had to go back and check to see what you added in, because it came together so well.

Enjoy your film, that and the Tamiya Clears would be great to hear about whenever you want.

Where are you getting these paints / inks from anyway?

As above, it's very hard to tell what you altered. Pulled together seamlessly.

I like the way he's turned out. While he is horrific I almost get the impression that he would still be somewhat jovial. Letting out foul bellows of laughter now and then. I think it's the ears that do it.

That's gruesome awesome and twisted although it doesn't look that minotaur like its still great

Mister F - I am lucky that here in Preston we have a really well stocked railway model shop for the Tamiya Clear colours. The Windsor and Newston inks are from at art shop.

The clear colours eg red gorey sections on the pestitaur. I simply painted the area a raw pink colour. After sealing the mini i slopped on the clear red (with a little gw black) for the glossy blood. Quick and simple for a vibrant glossy effect.

The Windsor and Newton are simply artists inks. I used orange and red on the models mixed with water (not enough on the crossbow men hence the brightness). They are very bright/vivid. But they don't dry properly (as in if you get paint on it afterwards they will mix with the piant..and change its colour)...so you need to put them on at the very end before sealing. I only really use these for boils.

Mister F and MoD - The ears are my favourite addition. They make him feel more bovine. I think he looks quite sad..like an unhappy clown.

Llamahead -Cheers. I think he looks like a bull who has mutated into an ogre. The eyes have morphed into one and his snout into a maw. His legs are backwards jointed too. He is just a pile of mutations and plague.

Fantastic, and so incredibly disgusting! I think the bovine ears, hands holding weapons despite being attached to split maw arms, and clothing/ornaments make it even grosser and sadder than the original plague ogryn. Not to mention the open wounds. The tamiya clear is a great effect.

I made the mistake of using Windsor and Newton inks as an under layer once, and they really do bleed up through anything on top of them, even primer or pure medium.

I like him, he looks quite friendly really, a little bit like a Cyclopean Nick Frost with that beard. Maybe a Simon Pegg plaguebearer to go with him?

Excellent paint job to go with the excellent build

I like him a lot, very characterful. Did you consider adding a wash to the edges of the open wounds for a rawer look, or was it a concious decision to go for 'clean' edges?

Interesting note on the W&N inks...I've not played with mine that much, picked up a few as they seemed to be quite vivid (I really miss the old, old red and yellow GW inks ), I'll have to bear that in mind. I presume a layer of sealant after the inks would be adequate precaution?

weirdingway - Bleed through was the phrase I was looking for Cheers

Bruticus - Ha ha I like Nick Frost - hmmm a skinny ginger plague bearer.

monkeytroll - I was very much concious about not wanting to cover him in blood. I guess the wound edges could do with a little pinking up. I repainted my crossbow men last night (too much brown) and did a little more work on their faces, even after a purity seal the W&N bled into the new highlights.

JimmyGrill - Thanks

Lamby - glad the ears are going down well.

Mister F - cool, looking forward to seeing what you do with your new paints.

Grimey, baby!

I have tried to paint "dirty" like this, but just couldn't get it done. It looks easy, but I find it rather hard to achieve... sadly, cause I like this kind of style a lot and try to develop more into this direction.

EDIT: these are real Blanche miniatures, aren't they?

Morning guys,

Nothing much new to show off. Just some additions to the Pestituar and Crossbowmen

The Crossbow men were really bugging me. They just looked like brown blobs....so I repainted their jackets. Also did some more work on their faces. Much happier now.

From this to this

Added a little more gore to the wounds and pinked up the edges on Monkeytrolls suggestion....good one Cheers Monkey

@ PDH , the jackets in burgundy look great , really ties the group together .BTW the cow eared monstrosity looks brilliant, I really like the way you manage to keep the overall models so neat but yet so full of character .

Good changes, I consider these an upgrade. I wasn't really bothered with the look of the crossbowmen before, but they do look better now.

Painting over "finished" minis is always a difficult decision, and personally I almost always refrain from doing it. Minis are never ever "finished", in the same sense that an army or project can never be finished, you just choose to declare them as such at a certain point. Mostly, I am happy to accept the shortcomings of my previous work and move on to the next one, trying to do it better this time around.

I did go back recently, though, repainting the bases of all the models I had painted for my army at that point.

Excellent improvements I hadn't really clocked anything wrong with the crossbowmen, but the switch to burgundy has certainly made a difference. And much prefer the raw wound look the pink has given the pestitaur.

neil101 - Hi buddy. Get yer paint on! Happy with the crossies now. I cannot stress how much they were bugging me. I've also decided to do a Fulgrim and not show off the champion until we get together.

JimmyGrill - I answered your question from last year on Papa Nurgle this morning - round bases because they look better, its a skirmish game so I don't need to worry about ranking up. I get what you mean about models being finished 99% of the time when I seal it its done. I actually cannot think of any other group I've gone back over after finishing them. Going back to repaint your army bases sounds tedious. I always paint the base first and that way when the model is done I don't have the boring task of making a base. I'm thinking of painting all the bases for my guard army (platoon) in one go.

monkeytroll - I agree. Thank you for pointing out the shortcomings on the Pestituar.

Thanks. I did have a little play around with a purple W&N ink - turns out it was more a bright magenta but I found it was pretty similar to GW glazes so that's good.

The Tamiya's on the other hand I don't get yet. I tried some yellow clear as a glaze on a Squig, but it started to peel away the previous layers of GW paint - wasn't too pleased about that. Shame!

I'm liking the burgundy repaint for the jackets, much better!

Painting of the slug is going really rather well....slow but well. I've dug out my pots of Amythyst Purple and Emerald Green for the carapace! For you young uns they are metallics

Mister F - damn that sucks about the clear yellow. I'm glad that's never happened to me but I'll be worried next time I use it.

Glad you like the repaint.
