Pretty happy with a different take on OSL with the Lion Knight (notes)

Also, more like what I tend to do here, some Lion-armored Survivors:

Loving these darker models, such a cool palette it's kind of soothing.

Wow. Just found this blog and it is some of the best art I have seen on Dakka. Your style really plays into the themes of light and darkness that seem to be all over KD:M and bring out the best in these miniatures. Fantastic.

aku/Inevitable, thanks, I find them pretty nicely mellow, too- I've tried similar effects to exaggerate OSL or as the base for sharper highlights, but rarely as subdued as these.

Da Boss, yeah, I'd been playing with similar effects on Malifaux models since there's so often a horror element to the setting, but KD felt nearly custom-designed for my painting styles since light and dark are such a heavy part of the setting and often each model. Thanks!

In the same vein, but more stylized (notes)

Next up, the Watcher and GSK. Also, I played around with some rules for representing the Twilight Witch (link)

Anticipating the Abyssal Woods, I worked on making a thematic set of the existing content from the core expansions. (Notes)

These guys were a long time coming, but I've finally updated my Screaming Antelope set. Pretty damn pleased with a few of them. (Notes and WIPs on my blog.)

Very cool work here - your OSL technique is always so effective, and the various colors on your newer models is really something else (especially the Dung Beetle Knight and Weirdo Face-Ball IMO).

Thanks! Yeah, I've really enjoyed playing with pinks. (I think the only color like that that I'm still messing with is purple, which doesn't turn out quite where I want it... maybe I'll try more of a dark/blacklight to it next time?)

Do you have any tutorial on your OSL work?

I've never had the patience to do a full step-by-step of it, but I discuss a lot of the principles here: http://spiralingcadaver.blogspot.com/2016/01/like-laws-and-sausages-atmospheric-osl.html

First new KD guys in a while: my take on the Messenger of Courage (i.e. their obvious Link homage) and Zelda...ish.

Thanks!

aku-chan, yeah, I agree: Link is a pretty heavy conversion from a few multipose kits so I both had more flexibility and confidence modifying him than Zelda, who's only lightly modified from a monopose and pricier one...

Definitely not my cup of tea, but Your work giving this monstrosity a new skull-face is very fitting. Thank You for sharing it!

The changes, or the monster itself? Either way, thanks.

While I liked most of the original KD content, more and more I've found that the designs are hit or miss for me. I think the closer to survival and a Dark Souls vibe, the more it resonates; the more towards body horror (a genre I love if done well) or sex the less I like it, largely because I don't think they get much nuance...
