Yeah, I guess there really wasn't much chance I wouldn't buy this, but after reading your post its become a must buy.

Do we know if that is Hobbit-only, or does it extend to LOTR armies too?

This supplement is just for the hobbit right now. It's basically redoing those poor excuses of pamphlets that came out for desolation of smaug and battle of the five armies. The new rulebook will be out next year and will do the same army wide special rules and updates for all the existing LoTR armies.

If I am not mistaken, the rulebook "Middle-Earth: Strategy Battle Game" comes out next summer. However, new profiles and updates for LOTR factions is half-confirmed but there was a strong emphasis on there being no clear timing of when it might happen. This, based off of an exchange I had with DCHL through their comment section on Youtube.

This miniature of Alfrid, showing him in his "disguise" complete with stolen gold, will be available at Warhammer World and selected events, but you can get it first on January 2nd!

I actually thought it was the legendary panicking man from the Giant kit. And Alfrid, for those too lazy to go ant google, is some kind or minor character in Hobbit.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

Next wave of FW releases is supposedly January.

(I just ordered some Gundabad trolls myself, from a third party miniatures company)

I just bought 2 of the plastic Mordor trolls from GW - bit of an impulse buy, but I always liked the mordor trolls, and they'll fill out my Mordor force nicely.
And hey, 'tis the season for indulgences!

I must say though, I don't think I'll regret missing out on the "disguised Alfrid" upthread, that bit of the Movie (among others) always struck me as unneccesary. Don't think much of the facial sculpting either, not what I'd call a great resemblance.

The later LOTR plastic kits are still some of my favorite GW have ever made. the plastic Troll, Fell-beast, Balrog, Easterling Kataphrakts, Morgul Knights, Galadhrim Knights, Dol Amroth knights, etc. Great detail, great price, lots of options. (and the Hobbit plastics are super super nice, love the Rivendell knights!) Specifically the plastic Troll kit almost wants you to buy like 3+ of them to use as many heads and arm combos as possible

Would love to see the next wave from forge world have goat riders, iron hills captains, iron hills warriors with crossbows and at the very least an arm upgrade pack for swords.
A chariot would be very cool. but they might need to take it down to 2 goats for space issues.

I was very excited to unwrap a shiny new iron hills army for Christmas today (a few family members banded together and my stash of model money took a hit). But not sure when i will have time to work on it and i think ill have to hold off on building about half my warriors to see if my hopes about hand weapon arms and crossbowmen come true.

Well those berserkers are enough to make me start list building in my head. The killer is the finecast Gundabad warriors. The dwarves from forge world are $55 (ish) for a set of 12. to get 12 Gundabad warriors is $100.

I ended up with Dain, 2 ballista and 4 sets of warriors.
More then i can ever field on the table top at one time i think. With no upgrades that comes in right around 900 points (by the rules on the forge world site) and it still needs 4 more heroes on top of that to have enough to lead the warbands.

Holy crap, 4 sets, that 48 spearmen right?

and trust me, I know the paint of Finecast army building - I have a Gundabad army (w/ 24 Gundabads + heroes), a Mirkwood army w/ cavalry and infantry, a Lake-town Guard army, and a Lake-town Militia army.

Goat riders? Do you mean rams?

Please explain the Goat Riders please. Either I am forgetting something or I just don't know what this is.

The Iron Hills Dwarves rode on war goats, not rams. Rams are male sheep.

What ruleset do these LoTR source books go with? The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey? The old blue rukebook with the one ring i cover? I have the original three rulebooks that the Big blue one bound together. Can I use those?

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hardcover that came out with the release of the first Hobbit movie is simply the current edition of the Strategy Battle Game rules. There are some minor changes from the big, blue "One Ring" hardcover (warbands, special weapons rules, new monster rules) but if the blue book is what you have that will work. These are totally new models, though, and I think the only place to find their stats is the new The Hobbit: There and Back Again supplement. I have not actually picked up the latter but AFAIK it is only a supplement, you still need the old Unexpected Journey (or the old One Ring book) for the rules to play.
