Yeah the reasoning can be followed, it just seems like dumb reasoning IMO.

The show looks to have been good, if they're considering rolling DCTV stuff into the WB streaming service they clearly want some DC-related content on it, and they'd already spent all the cash to set everything up. It seems silly to gakcan the whole thing when they could have just gone to the show's team and said "hey, you're gonna have to wait an extra few months to work on season 2 so it can go on the WB service, and you'll have to make do with a smaller budget so plot the story accordingly". At least spread the cost of those sets out over another few episodes of content, and if it proves to be a big hit it might pull people across to the new service.

As it stands I don't see any reason anyone would sub to the WB thing, since if they're cancelling stuff like Swamp Thing and probably Doom Patrol they've clearly got a rubbish sense of what constitutes good TV.

Oh, I'd certainly rather see the original shows continue. Heck, ST was the reason I signed up for the year. I was planning on subscribing through its run, and doing that at the monthly rate wasn't much different than the year deal. BUT...I can see how the executive perspective might be that they don't need original DC content (at least not to the tune of $80 mil/season) to drive subs for the WB app. They could be right or wrong about that. But they're probably evaluating everything in the new context.

Although most folks probably don't care, the comics library is great. They launched with a smaller, curated collection, but now there's many thousands of back issues. And I think newer stuff is being added 1 year after it's published. It's now much more in line with Marvel's service.

It's a shame that DCU's future is cloudy now that the service is really getting good.

I think the reason the shows aren't being ported over to the new service (as with the Netflix ones) is that there's always too much risk of there being something in them that the original network can claim as their IP meaning long legal fights and potential loss in court

it's a different matter if the original network dumps a show as there's not going to be so much of an axe to grind

Can’t watch right now, but if that trailer isn’t about Pennyworth being a kickass field medic in a war, then what’s the point? Of all the Batman characters, is there one LESS needful of an origin story (except maybe for Joker, for reasons of mystery)? I like Alfred. He puts Batman in his place constantly. An origin story is just largely needless.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

That doesn't really work here though, since DC are owned by WB. It would be like if Disney owned both Netflix and Disney+, pulled the shows from Netflix, and then didn't move them to Disney+(ignoring that they'd never do that because Disney+ will be "family friendly"). There's no "original network" to get involved, it's all ultimately WB.

Bit of a Necro, but not worth starting a new thread for.

Amazon Prime seem to have released Swamp Thing in the UK today, bit odd as Titans landed on Netflix, but for anyone in the UK who was interested to watch by not arsed to torrent, it's there now.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

And it's worth a watch.

Also as we're here, been watching Titans S2, it's decent enough. The pacing is still a smidge glacial, and if they don't start resolving all the plot threads they've been juggling now we're past the half way point it'll end up with another rushed feeling ending, but it's watchable.

I'm just glad we have another season of Doom Patrol to look forward to.

Do we know when/where Doom Patrol is due for a UK release yet? Seems odd that we haven't had even an announcement for it somewhere this long after it aired.

I’m liking season two more so far. Murder count for the heroes is way down compared to season one, though that’s more due to lack of opportunity as Hawk especially seems quite impatient to murder some bad guys and openly advocates for it.

The show has a dull as dirt color palette (everything under deep grey filters) and just other crappy problems.

Why didn't Dick start all this as Nightwing? Whats with his anger issues? Jason Todd is characterized better but why would Dick chastise him for doing what he just does? Starfire is yet again unrecognizable from the character people like. Ugh...

Deathstroke looks good in suit and less so in person. They need Cyborg to be buddies with people and lighten the mood. Why they insist on using cyborg to be the token black guy on every team but the team he has actual history with is beyond me. He has formative relationships with the titans. Put him with the titans.

Nightwing is clearly their build to moment this season. Repeatedly asking Dick who he is now if Damia... I mean Jason is Robin now and Dick isn’t and burned his Robin suit. I’m betting on Nightwing reveal on the second to last episode of the season.

I don’t like Deathstroke’s red laser eye. His thing used to be flaunting his missing eye and how he didn’t let that hinder him/he’s still going to kick your arse. Red laser eye just makes me think Deadshot.

Yes, but Dick has already moved to another city. Already become a detective as a day job. Already run the Titans and disbanded them. He's long past becoming Nightwing. And like the Raven Story ark, they are building towards it but it's not a big dramatic thing to build towards. Everyone knows whats coming. Has forever. It's a slow burn to no surprise at all. It's not like Titans is a series made for CBS or whatever where the general audience may be unfamiliar with the character. It's a series made for a DC comics subscription service. Your audience already knows.

I agree about the laser eye. Besides the laser that suit is dead on though.

I never said the build up was Good, just that it’s what I’m expecting. I mean hell, Trigon got to be Trigon for what, five minutes?

And yeah, the rest of the suit aside from the eye is sweet. I actually like the dude inside it too, perfect look.

HBO Max just put on a fancy ring and created some shows no one was expecting.

The company revealed at its HBO Max event on Tuesday it’s moving forward with a Green Lantern show. Yes, the popular DC Comics hero once played by Ryan Reynolds and forever on the “maybe” list of upcoming DC movies.

It’s being produced by Greg Berlanti and, as far as we know, has no bearing on Green Lantern Corps, the maybe-still-in-development movie announced at San Diego Comic-Con several years ago.

Berlanti is also working on Strange Adventures, “a DC superhero anthology...[that] will feature characters from across the DC canon.” According to an HBO Max press release, the TV show will be a “one-hour drama series [that] will explore close-ended morality tales about the intersecting lives of mortals and superhumans.” Strange Adventures is also the title of a highly-anticipated new Tom King comic, which we learned more about at the recent New York City Comic Con; it will feature Adam Strange as well as other DC notables grappling with multiple realities.

“Both of these original DC properties we’ll be creating for HBO Max will be unlike anything seen on television,” Berlanti said in a press release. “An anthology series of cautionary tales set in a world where superpowers exist, and, in what promises to be our biggest DC show ever made, we will be going to space with a Green Lantern television series, but I can’t reveal any more about that just yet.”

So, there’s no word on which Green Lantern this show will focus on. The main story, of course, is of Earthling Hal Jordan who comes upon a magic ring that makes him a part of an intergalactic police force sworn to protect the galaxy. But other humans have taken on the mantle—notably John Stewart—as well as all kinds of aliens from every corner of space. They could even choose to introduce one of the latest Green Lanterns from the comics. This show could go any number of ways. And potentially be very expensive.

Airing this series on HBO Max adds a new wrinkle to the live-action DC universe. On the big screen at least, that direction had been in flux for some time. However, after Aquaman, Shazam, and with the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984, the now in pre-production Batman movie as well James Gunn’s Suicide Squad, things seem to be taking a turn. Not to mention the unrelated, but sure to change things Joker as well as the massive live-action TV universe on the so-far separate DC Universe streaming service.

Green Lantern seems like something that could, if it wants to, tie into any of that, or live completely on its own. We’ll have to wait and find out—but in the meantime, which DC heroes are you hoping to see pop up on the Strange Adventures anthology show?

also a potential new Superman & Lois Tv show

Huh.

Geoff Johns was supposed to be working on the screenplay for a new GL film, something that Tom Cruise has been attached to at times. (I know, I know...Tom Cruise. But I think he'd kill it as Hal Jordan.) But mum's been the word, although there's been speculation about JJ Abrams getting involved with GL and/or Superman through his new deal with WB. So does this mean the GL film project is dead, or do they plan to double-dip like with the Flash?

Not that we can be sure that the Flash movie will ever happen. Andy Muschietti (IT) has the job now, but I think he's the fourth one? I think the new head of DC films is doing a great job, but it's weird how WB is having such success with lesser characters on film but can't seem to get the major ones (other than Batman) off the ground.

An Adam Strange anthology series sounds cool.

I've been enjoying the second season of Titans, BTW. The episode introducing Conner Kent was really good.

So season two finale. So I was wrong, they saved the Nightwing reveal until the very last episode of the season. I don’t think they ever called him Nightwing yet though? Either way the suit and shock batons were well done.

Batman, or rather Bruce Wayne is portrayed very weirdly in this show. He seems very out of character to me. Quippy and trollish rather than the usual stoicness I would expect from him. Although like 90%+ of his appearances are hallucinations or illusions and not Actually him, so it’s hard to say.

This one I’ll spoiler...
Spoiler:
Donna dies! Dies stupidly. Like that was a horrible death scene. We get a couple/several minutes of feel good celebration. The crowd of civilians come back out of hiding. Suddenly a pillar of lights starts to tip over! Oh no! There’s people under it’s eighteen inch wide impact zone! Oh no they’re scared and screaming and slowly cowering away from it instead of taking one step to the side! Oh no we forgot we have the faster than a speeding bullet and indestructible Super Boy on scene! Donna rushes out and catches it a few feet before it hits the ground, gets electrocuted, and drops it anyway, but there wasn’t anyone under it so that’s fine. Queue sad.

On the other hand it’s implied Raven is going to/try to resurrect her next season so it’ll probably be fine.

In general I overall liked this season better than the first. Much less heroes murdering people (less mind you, not zero).

Under the couch

The lack of costume has been my one big complaint with this season. It's the same thing Daredevil and associated off spins did wrong... The whole point of costumed superheroes is the fething costume. Stop wasting an entire series just getting to the costume.

Particularly since the costumes in this show have been pretty on point.
