So, no release date in sight, a really weird release structure that lets no one (except Algeroth) make a functional army, and a shot of someone's fingernails.

Eh, all things considered, could be worse.

i mean, I'd expect them to take the time to actually take a quick shot of the mini with the phone or something instead of trying to show if from a webcam. That's just... why.

And pour one out for the latest Mutant Chronicles RPG revival (not related to the latest Warzone mini game as far as I know)

https://www.facebook.com/MutantChroniclesRPG/

In 2013, Modiphius started work on a reboot of the classic dieselpunk roleplaying game Mutant Chronicles, and along with it, our in house 2d20 roleplaying system.
Getting to work with Mutant Chronicles was a wild experience, I’d bought and played the games in the 90’s so being able to bring this universe back, and expand on the story was so much fun, especially for our new young company.
The project triggered our development of 2d20, the game system that would go on to fuel other Modiphius roleplaying games like Conan, John Carter of Mars, Infinity, Dishonored, Fallout, Achtung! Cthulhu and Dune. Jay Little (the designer behind FFG’s Star Wars RPG and X-Wing) was brought on board to take our fledgling ideas and turn them into a professional all singing, all dancing RPG system that could face the rigours of the Dark Symmetry and serve it up for breakfast!
Through the 2014 Kickstarter, we ended up funding 18 books, a Savage Worlds edition of the rules, GM screen, multiple card decks and RPG miniatures. We roamed the solar system, explored the different timelines, revealed never before seen secrets of the Mutant Chronicles universe, and brought the story to a stunning final climactic battle with the Dark Apostles on Earth. After that, we created the RPG tie-in for the Siege of the Citadel board game to let players take part in one of the greatest battles mankind would ever face.
Now 9 years later our journey through the Mutant Chronicles has come to an end, we feel like what we created moved the story on so much and filled in lots of gaps the fans had been asking for… and we realised this was a great time to close the story. It’s time to return it to the hands of Cabinet Licensing who I’m sure will have plans for the future (for example there is a new edition of Warzone in the works!)
We’re now placing all the remaining Mutant Chronicles stock on sale at a 50% discount through our webstore (except for a couple of recent releases) so if you’ve been hanging on this is your last chance to pick up the Mutant Chronicles 3rd Edition roleplaying game and its many supplements and remaining accessories.
At the same time, we’ll be making the remaining stock of Siege of the Citadel boardgame available very soon - from the base game to the various expansions - these are not going to retail so it will be your last chance to get this too.
Both lines will cease sales at the end of June so grab them while you can!

Talk about a cursed IP.

Thinking back nearly 30 years, I believe this has gone through no less than a dozen hands. Without taking into consideration all the changes that Target games went through first.

I enjoyed the D20 resolution of the wargame and still respect that engine, but the IP... talk about overrated.

Its dead, Jim. Let it rest in peace finally. When you use such magic to bring back your loved ones, it doesnt work. They return as dark creatures. Things that are no longer what you loved. Render unto the past what belongs to the past.

On the plus side, this popped up on some painter's FB feed the other day:

I am liking what I am seeing. It seems on par with the level of detail we got from Prodos, with a scale that seems to match their later stuff (e.g. most of the WZR Imperials) as opposed to the original models they put out after the kickstarter, which were noticeably more true scale.

EDIT: It was originally posted on the "Shoshie's Magnificent Mini Painting" FB account if you want to check the source.

While sad in that MC 3rd could have used a new edition to clean things up... I'm also not all that upset. Modiphius did a good job with it and while it is missing a few things (like the end of the Venusian Apocalypse campaign), it is basically complete at this point and has a ton of material (and most of the "big questions" are now answered in either case). Modiphius is also probably the first company to work with Mutant Chronicles that didn't end up folding in on itself (if anything, MC and the 2d20 system ended up being a springboard for them to become one of the most prominent RPG publishers in the industry).

Sad to see it go again, but at least it got a fair run this time, just a shame they won't be able to keep selling it for more folks to enjoy, but that is a risk with any licensed RPG and sadly is the common fate of most at this point. When a license stops bringing in enough to justify renewing it, the best decision is usually to just walk away. RPG's aren't exactly known for their stellar long term RoI after all.

Fun Fact: Modiphius published MC 3rd Edition for longer than Target Games published the Mutant Chronicles/Warzone lines. 1st Edition released in 1993 and the company folded in 1999. So only six years, so a 9 year run is probably the best the game has done to date.

I have the original Target books and really enjoyed them back in the day (never played but read and reread them). I have the Modiphius PDFs from Humble Bundle, but never got around to them. My hard drive has its own closet of shame , how much new stuff was in them? Worth a read?

I would say so.
I also loved the target stuff back then, though we played only a few times. To deep in Shadowrun at that time.
The HB books contain a lot of nice background material and stories. I never played the new edition, but enjoyed them as a read over the last Christmas vacation.

Are they moving to 40mm? Most 28mm figures are about 2 fingertips tall, this looks like 3.

There is plenty of new stuff there, especially things that were not explored at all/or only skimmed in older editions.

As others have said, definitely worth a look for fans of the property. We finally get an RPG supplement for Dark Eden (something that previously was only outlined for Warzone) as well as delving deeper in to the secret history stuff that only had its surface scratched the the various source books (i.e. the origins of the Cardinal(s), Cybertronic, the Dark Legion, etc.).

They also set up a lot of stuff in the time before the coming of the Dark Legion, lending itself more to Call of Cthulhu style investigation before the full extent of the Dark Symmetry is revealed to the world. And while the Venusian Apocalypse campaign (left unfinished back in the Target days) was never completed, they ended up doing their own era-spanning campaign that is actually quite cool.

Do they like even know how to take pictures of models?

I ain't great at it but at least I know that no one wants to see a nice high-def shot of my finger prints.

As mentioned it was found on 4chan = no idea if it is a pic that creators want to show as official or simply posted by someone who was given the mini to paint.

on the forum. Obviously

So how old is Mutant Chronicles? It's as old as Warhammer, isn't it? Why does it keep dying?

Also, is this going to be skirmish like killzone or platoon like warhammer?

It's nowhere near as old as Warhammer. The first print of the original RPG came out in 1993. Warzone came out in 1995, I think?

Anyway... the Golden Lion seems in line with the 2nd edition big box plastics - simple, but workable. I'm fine with that.

The Necromutant, on the other hand, cuts a little too close to the classic Heartbreaker models for my taste.

And by classic, I mean 90's pewter goofiness.

I actually quite like all of the three most recent minis shown. Nicely painted and they have a unique look. Mind you I haven't had anything to do with Warzone since having Siege of the Citadel waaaaay back when I was a kid.

I’m digging it; captures the old aesthetic (which I do like - dudes with lots of armor and shoulder pads to make footballers blush) with more modern sculpting and proportions. Hope this makes it out to retail!

The figures are very nice - in fact, my only gripe is, they are painted to well. With a great paint job, even badly cast, bland figures become works of art. Several companies picked up on that over the past few years... Show me unpainted or primed examples!
Still, getting somewhat hyped for the KS

First: Okayish. Though I don't think he can move his head. And I don't like the gun.
Second: Same. But the gun is awful. And the chaindagger doesn't fit.
Third: Looks like the old model. Not a fan. Would be okay without the oversized hands and the oversized crude futuristic gun.

Necro mutant: Also looks too much like the old models. What's the mutation? Looking like an Orc or ghoul in metal armour with huge hands and a Joker grin?

I think nostalgia is fine. But this is way too much. I bought the old starter box back then as the plastic models were decent and was genuinely shocked when I saw the metal range in the books...
