Do they still rank up if you switch the standard bearer and musician around?

I'm trying to remember the name of the magic sword that had a gold blade - was it the Blade of Shining Gold, or something like that?

yes unfortunately I tried very hard to get them to rank up the other way on but it was simply not to be! Their legs and robes hit into each other. At some point, I'll try and fix it so that they looked less daft. I tried taking some photos of them all separated but they came out a bit too blurry. Blade of Leaping Gold was a cool magic sword, gave your hero an extra 3 attacks.

gobert wrote:Hehe, it’s always a challenge to rank up the minis, especially the mounted guys. The unit looks great though, well done getting them done

Thanks Gobert, I'm glad to get a unit finished. Not a quick painter but it's a great feeling getting a unit completed.

I've started painting some admech but the averland sunset base colour I use for them is bloody dried up! Agh! It was always a bit stodgy but now I can barely get anything. Will have to either buy a new pot or try and thin that one.

Anyone have any good tips for fixing that or is it just not worth the effort?

I’ve used water and a good stirrer to bring an old metallic paint back to life. It should work with Averland Sunset, though I’ve heard it might change the colour slightly.

Hey thanks both, I used a wee bit of warm water and it worked a treat. I suspected it would but I wanted to know if there was something fancy to use.

Well I've twisted some ritual knobs turnwise and I've oiled my armpits with the sacred ungeunts. I even blessed my paintstation with incense of the most powerful smells known to Holy Mars.

In otherwords, Forge World Labrunnia IX is back online!

The new 5 are part of the Kill Team conversions I showed previously. I used the Necromunda bases to differentiate them from the others and unify them with the other 5 members of the Kill Team who are built from Delaque gangers.

Hope you guys enjoy, up next will be the other half of the kill team and maybe a Kataphron!

Cheers

Thanks everyone, appreciate the kind words.

So on with the show, the other half of the Kill Team now complete barring me sorting out the bases. I finished these late on thursday night and couldn't be arsed to fanny on with PVA glue at the time when I take some photos of the Kill Team as a whole I'll show the updated photos.

I'm a bit at odds as to what to paint next, I think I might test out a Kataphron and also my converted ambot.

So here's the converted Delaque gangers and the rest of their ranger squad.

Part of my original idea for the squad was that

a) I wanted to create more of a Mechanicus feel to the models, which the more elongated Delaque models achieve.

&

b) the lore behind my explorator force, I wanted the Kill Team to look like a group of surveyors so I gave them some mining equipment and huge scanners as well as the Vanguard having more close combat weaponry.

Let me know what you folks think.

Cheers!

It I always interesting to see the other uses that people put Necromunda miniatures to, send these look great . I am always envious of people using orange as a primary colour on a unit/army as it is just one of those colours that I have never really mastered.

I think a Kataphron is a great idea to tackle next, they are such fun models...and your Wolfquad counts as conversion really looks the part.

Sweet Kill Team Olthannon! They certainly look like they have mechanical augmentation lurking under those robes. I’m with Guardling on doing the Ambot, it’d certainly fit in with the mining theme.

in the computer?

Nice conversion with the Delaque bodies, fits right in with the AdMech aesthetic. Their paintscheme is wonderful too, the Buddhist monk orange contrasts well against the blues of the electric bits + patina.

I like your Elves too - Elves practically demand a bright, vivid paintscheme, and yours certainly does the models justice.

Thanks! I am very interested by the new Necromunda sculpts, I like that they are a little different to the old ones, kind of hold their own. They are also very characterful, which is fun to play around with. The trouble I have with the orange is I spend a lot of time building up the layers, glad it looks okay in the end!

Cheers Guardling! The ambot is sitting waiting for some paint as I've been stuck over Christmas.

Thanks Gobert, the spindly nature of the delaque is real cool. Yet funny how different it is to the old sculpts, I only really noticed the difference looking on Captain Brown's log.

Thanks! The elves still have a bit to go, some archers are sat undercoated but figured I needed to do some 40k.

Cheers Gwyn and CB, very much appreciated.

So folks, Christmas has come and gone and I've had a some nice presents. Including a fabulous blessing from the Horned Rat and the cauldron of a thousand poxes. Yep I finally caught covid. Managed to stave it off for 2 years. I had my booster a few days prior but I think it hadn't warmed up in the system properly yet. Symptoms are thankfully mild and I believe I have the newer omicron variant as I still have my sense of smell. It's basically a bad cold and I'm extremely glad of my vaccines which seemed to have kept everything mild. It feels like a bloody awful cold, my wife has so far not got it so I'm stuck in the spare room, which has become the mini leper colony haha

You would think it would give me plenty of time to paint warhammer but unfortunately I've been too ill to focus on anything like painting.

Anyway, here's a few shots of the Kill Team which in the new rules is made up of 2 fire teams. 1 is the rangers and 1 is the vanguard.

No real change to the models here just that they are together and the ranger bases are finished.

However, one of my christmas presents was a fun little project I have had in mind ever since completing my other skorpius conversion.

When I re-read the awesome Forges of Mars one thing stuck with me that of course the models never existed. He describes the mecanicus tanks as converted up rhinos and chimeras. Now I love the rhino, I think it is a great looking tank. One of the things I really dislike about those dumb hovering primaris tanks. So I wanted to use the spare bits from the skorpius kit to make myself a disintegrator. It was a very easy kitbash, I kept the lower part because I think it looks like a dozer blade.

Let me know what you guys think!

Cheers!

That is a cool kit bash, makes me want to try it myself.
Maybe I'll mock it up on my chimera...
Not sure about the dozer though, doesn't seem big enough.

Yeah I would remove the dozer. The dozer would clear anything that would block the chassis, but it would move them to under the treads!

However, that is a brilliant looking conversion. IMHO looks better than either of the original kits!

If you extend the dozer in front of the treads (angled back slightly if possible) it would both clear anything that blocks the chassis, bypass the treads *and* look more finished?

Happy New Year Olthannon!

That’s one awesome kitbash! I like Arakasi’s suggestion of extending and angling back on the dozer blade. That would look even cooler!

Thanks everyone for the feedback and replies, Happy New Year to you all!

So although I liked the idea of angling the dozer, it would have been an unbelievable faff, so I've just gotten rid of it

Thankfully my covid symptoms are finally dying down, still getting headaches and a cough has started, also lost my sense of taste but feeling a lot better on the whole.

Actually managed to get some painting done in fact.

So here is my first Kataphron as a tester, with my wolfquad to follow.

++ A dull, aching agony reverberates in my skull as the jolts of electricity course through the nodes lodged in the organic remnants of my brain. I feel myself in motion. I feel.. but there is little I can do. Who was I? Fleeting traces of memory still echo in my mind. If I glance down, icy terror paralyses my thoughts and I want to scream as I see my new, hideous armoured body. Yet I have no control. Instead, I retreat into what little I have left to save myself. My body is broken and enmeshed into this metallic form. I am a cog in the machine. I am a servant of the Omnissiah.

// a moment of painful clarity within the mind of Kataphron battle servitor K98-III. //

Just a fun bit of lore to go with the painting

Ideally, I'd like to finish my other outstanding project which is my Serberys Kettenkrad conversion but I still haven't found anyone with a 3D printer to help with the tracks.

Still their time will come.

Cheers all!

Hi everyone, little update today. What with the self isolation I actually have time to paint and so I have. Today should be the last day of isolating (hooray!) which means back to work tomorrow (boo!)

I don't really think too far ahead with planning my armies. I pick a theme I want to go with when building them and work things out along the way. I buy things that look cool and then try and figure out cool ways of fitting them into my army when I have the bits in front of me. So when I bought the GSC jackals, my mind was focused on the eventual kettenkrad conversion and I sort of forgot about the wolfquad. Until of course I decided at random to make my techpriest out of kataphron parts and then out of the bits popped the wolfquad to shore up the kataphron breacher squad. For those of you that have been following this blog for a while, it fits the pattern of how I update it!

So here is my latest, Reclaimator Haryssen Fyrd.

++ Reclaimator Haryssen Fyrd rides across the sulphuric wasteland on his customised mechanicus ATV, based on the ubiquitous Atalan chassis. While his methods are unusual and deeply against standard technoarchaeological practice, his recent actions within the explorator fleet have uncovered numerous extremely valuable lost tech. He is often seen with his Kataphron bodyguards who defend him from the denizens of whichever tomb or ruin he has decided to excavate. ++

This was a fun little mini to do, I've used the GSC kits a couple of times now because they have some nicely characterful designs. What with all the mining equipment, they fit the bill for the theme of the archaeologist explorator fleet.

I have a couple of things I'm in the process of painting - the other Katapron, the converted Ambot and the converted Skorpius. Who knows what will finish first?

Cheers all!

Thanks both, I appreciate it!

So something a little different today, was off work yesterday with some post covid health problems, so on lighter duties at work today.

Had some time to kill yesterday so I broke out the greenstuff and opened up the Kill Team box I got for Christmas.

That kit is awesome, I love the range of details and the options. That is what all imperial guard kits should look like. They look like a proper squad, you can really make very characterful soldiers. It's everything I hope for with the eventual IG release.

Only problem is I don't like the DKoK, I think they suck

So instead I present the first 5 of my Valhallan Kill Team and possibly first 5 of my IG army.

Now I've not touched greenstuff in over a decade but I'm pretty happy with the end result.

Let me know what you folks think!

Cheers.

Thanks Guardling! It's funny you mention those bandolier things. I thought about it a lot when I was making them because I wanted them to match up with the old minis. But I decided not to. In a lot of the GW art they don't have them and I think it would just look too weird and bulky on those DKoK figures. I figure the 'bandoliers' are like a survival tent or something..? because I don't actually know what purpose they serve. And since they have backpacks I figure that is a suitable replacement.
