Cool idea to flip the cabling over Kepora, not something i'd thought of, l'll give that a shot.

Originally I was planning on doing something similar to below, which I made last year.

I'm actually tempted to place the gun further down the arm at the next joint. The one issue I have with using the infurno pistol is that its a big bulky weapon

Assembled, GSC icon replaced, head isn't attached:

For the back there is a choice, the standard bit minus the snake arms, or a big book. In an ideal world I'd like to put both, but it might make him look too weighed down with stuff (that's what acolytes are for!).

Also more rocky scatter terrain.

For a while now I've had the idea to make a big factory like building (bigger than 300 x 600 mm footprint), I have no idea what it'll actually do, I've got a few things that I can put inside it. But as a way of actually starting it I thought I'd try making a damaged reception / admin section, besides the shape, making some steps to raise it off the ground and adding two counters to the inside its a blank slate atm. Kinda looking forward to this as I've had a pile of these terrain kits for a while and they've done nothing except collect dust.

Cheers all.

Weekly progress report:

The long battle to paint space marines continues, with the conscription of dropper bottles and blue tack to hold fiddly bits, I will prevail!

Ahem.
I've also made a base and roof for the factory entrance. The base was made from two layers of foam board laminated together then glued into an open sided box made from 0.5mm plasticard, to protect it and to stick safely stuff to.
On the outer edging I'm planing on going around it with some brick textured plasticard and covering the join at the top with a piece of rod for a lipped edge, I'm not decided if to leave the top part that is visible to the outside as plain or to etch a flagstone look to the top, like the steps.
The roof wants some strips of plasticard making to fill the gaps in, if not for aesthetic reasons then to hold the roof together as the joins are quite flimsy atm.
Its coming together quite ok for now, and when I'm done with the above I can get started on the interior.

Gun arm on the inquisitor is done, some gaps on it to fill in, probably the last you'll see of him until I start painting him.

Had a few random parts and threw them on a cairn wraith that I've been avoiding for ages, I'm thinking of using it as a mechanicus tech adept who is part of the inquisitor's posse, as you can see he is fulfilling the vital role of holding the lamp, I've got a pile of mechanical tentacle arms lying spare now so I'll use them all up on him, subject to change / being scrapped if I think of anything better.

Cheers

I converted a cairn wraith into a magos explorator last year:

So while not sleeping the other night I got started on the 3rd arco-flagellant.

First try sculpting a ruff, adding the musculature to fit with the arm was fun. The lump on the back bugs me a bit so I might remove it, there was originally going to be one of the little gothic shoulder lights from a scion torso (spare from the inquisitor) but the floor ate it. The model will be positioned further back on its actual base, when I'm done

The hunter.

Once the above are done I still have an acolyte with a meltagun to add.

@EMberlord: Very nice.

Thanks graven, I've painted 8 or 9 like that, nearly fed up.

Thanks Doc, probably how i'll feel about space marines when I get this done.

Jump packs done.

Also made these to protect my sanity:

Evergreen 292 carfully cut into 50mm long sections, with shelves made from 1mm plasticard cut into 40 x 12 mm strips glued in with 10mm left between each level.
A pack of 292 is enough to make 7 like the ones pictured.

Things i'm working on:

I'm going to have a go at painting the power axe using a glazing technique based on these tutorials:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCEx8Klddmc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPTHDAitMfU

But with different colours as I have none of those paints. This isn't something i've tried before so I expect I'll be messing up a lot.

Fun fact: If you paint using Vallejo model or game color you can use vallejo airbrush cleaner as a brush on paint stripper

I also picked up some primaris bits recently and so I'm having a go at turning reiver bodies into truescale-ish space marines, just for the hell of it.
The space marine is flanked by two more additions to the inquisitorial warband. The lady is based on a necromunda Escher ganger and will be armed with a needle pistol and a power maul (when I replace the hand).

Thanks.

Axe is done, took longer than planned, messed up the highlight abit. Might have helped if I actually knew where the light reflections should go. NVM just glad that bit is done. Only thing left on the assault squad is the bodies

Forgot to post these, they are finished and ready to paint.

Good job on the assault chaps.

The background on their photos is perhaps a little too busy even if it's properly themed. Makes it difficult to focus on the models, they are almost camouflaged there.

Cheers all and Merry Christmas, Bah humbug etc. If I don't get the chance to say so.

I'll try and get a better background, they may look camouflaged but the colour balance and lighting is more accurate to how they look irl. I do want to get a decent army shot of these (nearly) finished marine armies once I'm done.

Yeah, finding a background that gives good colour balance for a mini' is a tricky job.

Try moving that background further away from the model so that it becomes blurred and only the model is in focus. That will help.

Merry Humbug to you too.

Happy New year all.

Yea so I managed to get the Word Bearers force completed...

... and close ups in the spoiler.
Spoiler:

Also, the infantry for the Red Scorps ....

... again more pics in the spoiler.
Spoiler:

I've only just got started on the vehicles, first up is the dreadnought and razorback.

These are the colours that I'm using for the grey.

For some reason my model air German Grey is a few shades lighter than my model color one... I think my vehicles are going to end up a shade or two lighter than planned because of it.

I was getting started on the yellow and was planning to do that tonight but I've had a bit of an accident with the airbrush, I like to spray with the rear guard off, so I can quickly loosen the needle when cleaning. This is a stupid thing to do, don't do it, keep it there. I'd placed my airbrush down on the desk to move some masking tape, the weight of the hose to the compressor pulled the airbrush off my desk, time slowed, the airbrush turned mid air so it impacted with the ground on the back of the needle stopping the needle, but not the rest of the brush. This forced the point of the needle through the 0.35mm nozzle tearing it wide open ... Thankfully I'll be able to get a replacement tomorrow or thursday, ugh.

I did have some more to show, like how I was planning to paint the yellow, then a test of it on a primed offcut off plasticard stuck to some sprue but that'll have to wait until my next update.

Oh and here is a little WIP of a Christmas present that I've not quite finished.

It's an "Anglo Dane Hovel" by a UK laser-cut terrain manufacturer called 4Ground. Went together pretty well, I'm not impressed with the window part of it was cut much too thin.
The thatched roofing is made with pieces of furry fabric that the instructions say to use an old toothbrush with some watered down PVA to shape ... ... I may have overdone it with the PVA...

@ Dr H: here is where I got my last painting background from: http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.co.uk/2010/05/photo-backgrounds.html I was thinking of making my own or editing and printing some of those at a larger size.

Cheers all.

Beware of Trogdor the Burninator with those thatched-roofed cottages.

Incredible work on the Word Bearers. That is one legion I've always had a deep interest in but have not committed to the undertaking.

Thank you all.

@Skalk I'll tell the peasants to look out for an S shaped man dragon with one muscular arm, especially at night.

The word bearers were pretty challenging cutting up the decals was really fiddly, but worth it.

Here is the yellow test:

Which was, stating fro a black primer, painted using the following from left to right as pictured:

And this is how I (badly) used them, hopefully it'll be a bit of use to some one:

- Dirt: dark brown-yellow. Apply as a basecoat, build up fairly evenly with a thin covering in areas of absolute shade.

- Dark Yellow: light yellow-brown. Build this up in thin layers over lighter areas, apply it more heavily where light would fall and to provide a base coat for lighter shades as it is relativity opaque.

- Ochre: Main "Yellowing" shade apply thinly over the Dirt - Dark Yellow boundry, build up over areas that are going to be lighter.

- Sun Yellow: first highlight, build up over the Ochre, very transparant apply lightly as per the words of St. Duncun "in many thin layers". This should be the lightest shade on vertically facing surfaces

- Moon Yellow: Zenithal highlight, it's more opaque than the Sun yellow due to having some white mixed in, easy to over do, so be very careful and apply only to the top of upward facing surfaces

If you apply the moon yellow a bit strongly in places just pass over it with Sun yellow over the boundary.

On the models I'll add some edge hightling, using a bit of sun yellow, moon yellow and/or white mixed into sun yellow or moon yellow

So this is the scheme that I'm going for on the razorback:

I've got to the Ochre stage atm:

Should get it finished today.

Masking tape is off the Razorback and Dreadnought.

The Yellow, i'm happy with, the grey ... not so much.

There's one or two little bits of overspray where the masking tape must have lifted in the few days it took to replace the nozzle on the airbrush. Apart from that I've got the edge highlighting to finish off before working on the detailing.

Whilst I had the airbrush set up I thought I'd get some colour on the small rocky outcrops that I made a few months back, they are nothing fancy and will be getting some vegetation on them at some point.

And lastly here is the externally finished thached roof hovel:

I'd like to add a fireplace, rushes on the floor and general interior clutter that someone might own who lived there some thousand years ago.

Cheers,
OMN.
