You can't buy popular issues direct from Hachette. The situation you describe is the same for most Imperium releases that people want to buy (this was not the case for Conquest, I suspect they've refined their process to maximise profits, ie somewhat restricting the availability of the most premium offerings).

So it even being listed on their site and saying "coming soon" was just misleading? Or is it something like subscribers can get them before they show up on the site so by the time it's made "available" there they're already all gone?

I don't know what happens behind the scenes, I just know that the good issues go from Coming Soon to Sold Out with no step inbetween.

I was told by a chap at my local forbidden planet that they can't order the numbers they could for conquest

(now whether this is absolutely true or way to deal with somebody asking why they didn't have any issue 46 etc available i don't know)

but it wouldn't surprise me if GW just isn't able to provide the number of sprues they were when conquest was being done, at least in one go, and hachette is far more reluctant to do reprints than it was when issues like the rhino kept coming back into stock every few months

If they have 10 units available to buy then it was coming soon but sold out quite quickly.

They also tried (and succeeded often) getting copies in again in the past. So maybe hesitant to say out of stock.

The ideal would be to post here so people don’t have to head there to look.

Question:
Does anyone know how the Triarch Stalker got split in issues 52 & 53, e.g. did the two spider leg sprues come in just one issue?

Info:
59 Outriders part 1
60 Outriders part 2
61 Tomb Blade (singular)
62 Paints x 2

Not clear how the Outriders get split, 2 in one issue, 1 and 3 bases in the other?

Do You think, that after Imperium we would get another W40K magazine? If yes, then who would be in?

They seem to do one per edition. The gap between Conquest and Imperium was about 16 months. Imperium is due to run until Marchish next year so if the pattern continues we are likely looking at 2 years until the next one.

I imagine it would be like Conquest and be the two factions from the 10th starter - so Nids versus Marines. Maybe they'll mix it up a little and include a few squads of Genestealer Cultists with the Nids, but tbh they will have enough models it's probably not necessary. They could maybe put some Guardsmen in with the Marines but again they probably don't need to.

Don’t need to. But. Need to put different stuff in to get the most out of it customer wise.
That’s why this one has all the Sisters and such. Have to make it different to Conquest.

Hasn’t each magazine started at a certain point into the prior ones run (original UK runs, probably varies a lot in other countries, but that’s just reprinting/writing etc anyway).

So for example issue 1 comes at about Issue 60 of the last one (can’t remember the exact, but they always had crossover).
Obviously maybe up in the air a bit with the magazine delay this year time round. But timeline may hold roughly true if there’s gonna be another.

Not for the same game system. Mortal Realms crossed over with Conquest and Imperium but they didn't cross with each other.

I think GW looks at these more as a new customer acquisition tool than "giving lots of existing players cheap models" tbh.

But I think the marine range is big enough they could do a fairly healthy set without too much repetition, especially if they went heavy on the Phobos marines and had access to the 10th Ed starter.

GW puts a known amount of discount stock on the market with these magazines. The number made is finite and whilst they can do additional repeats of popular issues from time to time; the amount made directly controlled.

So for GW they are very much a loss-leader product line designed likely on two fronts

1) Getting new people into the game

2) Getting existing people into new armies.

They know that for all the stuff they put in them for cheap, they don't include everything and that model sales of other stuff in those armies will increase as a result. They also know not everyone will hunt down dozens of copies of the same issue so they'll take their cheap 1 subscriber copy and then expand with regular purchases.

I've had a strange email from Hachette today.

Dear Subscriber,

We wanted to let you know about a change to your Warhammer 40,000: Imperium deliveries.

Your dispatch of issues 31-34 includes your second premium kit. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen delays, your premium gift won't reach our warehouse in time to be processed.

So as not to delay your subscription, you will be sent the next available issues (issue 35 onwards) until the stock of your second premium kit reaches our warehouse. Please note, this is due to be delivered in January 2023.

We are very sorry about the delay and hope it doesn't cause any disappointment.

Hachette Partworks Ltd.

I'm not really worried as they've just delivered up to issue 54 with the Tau as the third premium and I've had the Chais and Tyranid premiums.

It also gets bods in stores, which is when the real spending can start.

Well yeah that’s what I’m talking about. A new magazine won’t come till issue 60 of Stormbringer.

But 100% it’s for new players, but at the end of the day they must know that existing customers will buy, so the more they vary the better. I don’t just mean people like us who are well invested.
But like someone might have gotten in with Conquest and jut gone along each run. So Imperium was very different contents wise.

And on the Stormcast from the same, both quite different set of models.
Though repeats happened here and there yeah.

Considering how the flayed ones issue went bonkers I think they 100% know existing fans are not just buying but are a big chunk of the market.

GW are just one of the companies involved though. Hachette don't care at all about GW acquiring new customers and just want to sell as many subscriptions as possible.

Absolutely, but I'm sure that Hachette are completely beholden to GW for production of the models themselves and can only make the offering what GW is willing to give them.

Back in the UK and hating it

I'd expect the next magazine after stormbringer to be 30k based, gives them time to get the kits out and for them to shift a few before selling cheap sprues

A 30k run I guess isn't out of the question, now that it's a mainline game. Part of me dares to hope for another Middle-earth based partworks.

I'd be all in for a 30k magazine. Every single issue would be usable for everyone (to a degree, with allies). Heck, I might even subscribe twice.

The problem with doing a 30K one is that there's no push-fit to put in early issues for drawing in inexperienced modellers. As much as we're drawn to it, the way the magazines are actually written are very much for gradually introducing a new player to how to do the HHHobby. That whole "GW sees this as a way to get new players" is very much true if you actually read through the entire run and its progression of rules and skill teaching.
