The Dwarves of Tir-Na-Bor have always been steampunk. */me shudders at term and dies a little inside* You're thinking of the Dwarves of Mid-Nor, who have always been...well, tentacles and teddy bears, really. Rackham plastic makes Construct very happy: He won't be getting up in a hurry after seeing the Golem *for need of prayers to the pricing gods* and He wants to have that Therian... thing's babies *rip their way out of his digestive tract* Ooh, bouncy! Also, the offical AT-43 site has pictures showing how well the miniatures retain their detail after re-priming (which seems to scotch the rumours about unpainted versions being available down the line), and Eddie Izzard the White Star (No, seriously).

Sure, you could use them for that. They've got tons of room for conversions since they come with tons of extra pieces for different heads, weapons and arms as well as being plastic Check out the other link I provided for shots of just two possible configurations you can assemble the model in.

Which is a rather reasonable price when you consider how many arms, chests and heads come with the kit. Add to that the fact that they've made the kit plug and play so you can easily swap parts out and you've got a winner in my books

Posted By Xerxes on 12/03/2006 4:14 PM Rackham's first big plastic kit, Aberration Prime, was 25 euros. Also keep in mind it's GW equivalent, the Carnifex, was 33 euros. As for the figures, they are of the quality I've come to expect from Rackham. Lovely looking figures the lot.

Oh, yeah. Dwarf Steam-powered Mech FTW. I'm so doing the turret version, too.
It'll go nicely in my steam-golem Dwarf army of doom for No Quarter (or whatever rules will have it).
Other stuff is also cool, but as usual, Rackham style intimidating.

Someone who knows... please help me! Based on the quality of the miniatures, Rackham ought to rule the gaming universe, but... they don't. Is it a distribution in the States thing? Or is it the rules? Are they not very good?

The rules are ok, and could be outstanding with fixes. Like anything there are some worthless units, and some much needed points cost adjustments. Ranged units are almost worthless in the game even though most armies come have quite a few choices. I really like the concept of the rules. Almost every single phase or step in the game requires a tactical decision. Tons of little choices that can really change the outcome of the game. The major problems are errors in translation, and generalizations that just don't work. Line of sight still has a lot of problems, especially since a lot of the models are posed in outlandish manner.
Don't even get into 3.5. Right now a lot of vets are threatening to drop the game over that little .5 and some groups are going back to 2. In a way if they are going to do 3.5 it should actually be 4 and the entire game needs to be redone with most of the cards getting a re-costing.

No, it is actually a pdf update available on their site. Yes, it is official. Some major rule changes, that are causing some major discussion.

I got all psyched up about confrontation when I saw some figs 'live' in Paris last year. So when I got home I picked up the rules...and they're just gibberish to me. Part of that is me; I need to play rules out to really understand them (I can't just keep the theory in my head), but part of it is, imnsho, the rules are really poorly written. And if I have to choose between poorly written rules for over the top fantasy figs and well-written rules for over the top fantasy figs, I'm going to go play Warmachine (insert snide comment here).

Confrontation could be a good game if the rules were simply tweaked. As it is the rules are convoluted, a problem which is compounded by the poor translation. Add to this a huge variety of different abilites, spells and items, and you've got yourself one pretty big mess. I've tried to play Confrontation, and I've bought plenty of the models, but I never seem to have much fun as I spend more time flipping through the rulebook then I do actually playing the game.
