Dakka Dakka is worthy of inclusion in the repository of all human knowwhat! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Games_Workshop_Online_Community Dakka Dakka "Dakka Dakka" is an older online forum community. Generally its members are older gamers, and there is less tolerance of "noobs" and trolls. Prominent members include several Golden Demon winners, and non-Games Workshop employees who have had articles published in White Dwarf.[8] Since Wikipedia is strickly limited to verifyable claims it's hard to include commentary such as Dakka Roxxorz and B&C are uptight scumbags but if anyone can think of something to add or edit go for it.

Posted By beef on 12/07/2006 2:20 PM B&C are not scumbags, I frequent there quite A bit and have not had any problems. They're pretty obnoxious about banning any hint of levity or anything that does not involve powered armor.

The B&C could be one of the best 40k forums on the 'net. They should be. But because of their pretentious, trigger-happy, power-trip mods and their bordering on homo-erotic obsession with only power armor, they fall disgustingly short of their potential. It's a waste, and it makes me sick to my stomach just thinking about it. I could deal with the "power armor only" nonsense if they didn't consistently lock threads at the first possible chance rather than do a little work and try to get them back on track. Sometimes it seems like they'll have an interesting thread going on, then someone says "ork" and boom! LOCKED. It's even worse if someone posts a beautifully painted non-power armor mini in the modeling section and they lock the thread and delete the pictures. Okay, I know it's against their rules but honestly....it shouldn't be. Anyone who plays space marines (or any army) can learn a lot from good painters....it doesn't matter if they paint something other than space marines every once in awhile. By censoring good content, they're only limiting their own artistic potential. Dakka being on Wikipedia is cool though. Question: Approximately how many registered users do we have? It gives the numbers for Warseer and B&C, but not for us. Someone ought to look into that.

I haven't even bothered going to B&C.
I go to Warseer, but I have to take a break once in awhile 'cause I get sick of the whiners and people insisting on the wrong way they play the rules being the 'real' rules.

I frequent Dakka the most, as its the first board I encountered with the friendliest people far far too long in the distant past. I also frequent B&C for the modelling and yakking about my Deathwing (more like *female dog*ing about them lately). Warseer is for rumours only, with the occasional all to easy schooling. That said all the boards have their problems with pretension. I'd like to think dakka is different, but historically the "Shark Pit" of YMDC has made many posters be turned off this this place over time. The good ones with a modicum of intelligence stay. (or in my case, a spammer who really doesnt know when to quit). Dakka = Rough skinned Grognards, with very lax and liberal Moderation, So old, it even beats out portent and B&C for length of opertion. (Dakka's 10th anniversary is next summerish IIRC.) B&C = Some pretty good posters as well but the mods are somewhat overzealous in certain parts of the forum (Thanks Chaplain Lucifer in the DA forum for being a bit more free than what i am used to there) Warseer = Post count = intelligence for many posters (in my experience). The high volume of posters though is a double edged sword. I have seen alot of really good posts on the new Portent, but they are usually washed out in static. Regardless, Portent is still the place to get rumours. It is alot better than what it used to be forum wise. The kids are forced to act more mature instead of the usual "1137zor" crud.

Should we mention that we went from the best, most intuative software to some un-manageable, irrelevant piece of crap where most people don't even know how to post links or find a mambers list? I think so.

Considering Dakka is the only forum I've ever, ever seen much less used that requires people to know HTML and doesn't use the ubiquitous UBB/vBulletin/pHpbb tags, not very obvious to a first time user, especially those prone to not seeing or reading Iorek's Basic HTML: Posting Pictures and Links post at the top of this forum. Do note you'll need to close the brackets by removing all of the spaces in those HTML prompts for it to work.

While there is a very large and liberal leeway here for many things, some language isnt quite appopriate.

@nyarlathotep667 I will agree with that statement, I thought it was weird that BB code is not used (first I have seen of this on a forum). All forums usually have the option to turn BB code or HTML on or off. But I figured it out by reading the stickies and other posts.

But once you accept that this forum is different from others, its very simple to learn to use.

One thing I've found with Dakka is that while the player base is older and generally wiser, Dakka as a whole is not as open to new ideas or new ways of thinking about the games. Other sites will take a more critical look at a force org slot choice and debate it longer, while Dakka tends to dismiss things out of hand.
A good example is the War Walker talks that have been going on here. At the beginning here, Walkers were dismissed as inferior to the Falcon. Why take one at all? But over at 40KOnline, the Walker is given it's due course of discussion. It seems that only when certain posters pipe up with 'an idea' is the subject really given any real thought - real thought that has actually already taken place at other forums that are more open-minded to new ideas, or just different trains of thought. I see epiphanies about unit choices at other forums before I see them here.
I like Dakka a good deal, and come here first in my searches. But it seems to me like the majority of the posters here at the Old Man of the WebForums need to stop being so close-minded about things.
