Is there any situation other than when an enemy retreats and you don't catch them in a sweeping advance that you don't get a massacre result?

Just wondering because in a game with a friend yesterday he read (out loud 3 times before he got it right) that a sweeping advance does NOT count as a massacre.

He started to get peeved at me when I kept on saying "read it again"

Which also brings up the question, any etymologists here know WHY that is such hard wording to pick up properly?

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

If the pile in move can't get any models engaged, combat ends and both sides make a Consolidation move (rule book 44).

When you wipe out a unit from a No Retreat result I believe it doesn't call that a massacre.

If there are no models remaining in base to base contact, and the losing side fails their morale test and flees, then there can be no sweeping advance. The losing unit falls back as normal, the winning unit consolidates 3".

Are you sure about the No Retreat result though Skyth? I was wondering about that myself. As far as I can tell, the book does not say one way or the other. Which perhaps means that we need to be conservative and assume it is not a massacre, I suppose...

That's the general gist-Unless it says it's a massacre, it isn't.

I'm confused. I don't have a rulesbook handy, but a sweeping advance is what the pursuit move is called when a unit breaks from a combat due to a failed leadership check.

A Massacre happens when you wipe out the enemy in combat.

Thus, Terminators can only make 3 inch consolidation move when they break an enemy, but if they wipe them out, they get the d6. The two are unrelated.
