Most IG doctrines say "Per Unit"... do they mean per Platoon or Squad?

If it's per platoon, some doctrines cost 1/5 a point per model.  I'm not familiar with IG, but it seems that each squad functions as a seperate unit.  If so, why does one or two doctrine say "Per Squad"?

A Platoon is not a unit.

A Unit is a specific model or group of models that functions independantly on the tabletop.

The Platoon is the FOC slot choice.
The Squads in that Platoon are individual Units.
