Well I’ve put it off long enough and now I can't procrastinate any longer. I have a few HB Marines I need to build but I have 0 experience with the metal HWs on plastic Marine bodies since the last time I put a Marine HW together was back in 2nd Ed. Whilst sizing up the model I notice that it must have been designed by a blind man as the left arm does not match up to it socket on the HB and as such there is no way that the arms can attach flush to the torso whilst holding the HB at anything resembling at realistic angle.

Now I realise that this means I will need to pin at least 2 of the joints and fill in with green stuff but before I embark upon this endeavor I thought I would at least ask if anyone has any tips on how to build these things better. What I would love to hear is that someone knows of specific Marine arms(Plastic or otherwise) that can be cut and manipulated to fit better than the existing metal arm meaning at best I might only have to pin the plastic arm to the HB.

So anyone? Please....

I've built Marines with H Bolters, and Lascannons, and in both cases, they really sucked to work with. It did require a lot of pinning, a lot of wrangling, some green stuff. There's not much magic to it, just keep test fitting, then try bending arms, filing down shoulders, etc.

You might try out the plastic Scout H Bolter. I really like the look of it, plastic is always easier to convert with, but it might be more work in the long run.

I guess i'll just start crying softly now to get it out of the way then.

I don't think the Scout HB would be much help plus it would also lose the ammo feed that I love so much. Though I think that it could probably be manipulated into place fairly easily with a few arm cuts but then there is also the fact that I would have to get my hands on some, and then i'd have even more of those Scouts with their stupid arm joins than make me want to smack people.

I am happy I decided on making my Devs ML only so I only ahve to build 4 of these monstrosities, and 4 Lascannons, and 2-3 Plasma Cannons, and 2 Multi-Meltas. Will it ever end?

I cant stand the Space Marine heavy bolter, so I usally go to the chaos heavy bolter from the Chaos Marine spure. You know shave off all the chaos stuff. You could also check out GW's sight and see what they have for heavy bolters without ammo fed back pack..?

But the ammo feed is what makes it so special. I can finally look at the model and not think to myself he is going to run out of ammo in 3 seconds. Plus if he does run out he could totally strangle someone with it. All whilst making some cheesy one liner like "Whats the matter? Heavy Bolter got your tounge!? PUNK!".

I wonder if I could modify some of the spare HBs from my Razorback kits that I have lying around....

More of a tactics suggestion, but I would never field Marines with MultiMeltas or Plasma Cannons. And I've got about four Plasma Cannons for my Dark Angels list. Don't struggle with annoying models, especially if they're not gonna help in game.

Lascannons for your Las/Plas squads...

HBolters or Missile Launchers for your Devs...

I was trying that out - but those bolters are insanely huge... its more like a Bolt Cannon than a HB - which is something that irritates me.

The HB on a marine is quite big, but the Razorback is bigger and the HB on a tank is massive - yet they all do the same damage - it just freaks me out.  The size of the SHELL coming out of the tank HB and the force it needs to drive it to range alone should make it at least have extra damage if not armor penetration - although i imagine that at decent range the shell would just go straight through you and leave a gaping hole...

Clang, I bought these ones specificly so I wouldn't ahve to deal with the plastics when they came out. I say there is a good 50% chance the models are crap and a 99% chance that the cost will either stay the same or go up from the current Dev price. Plus no more HW blisters so to get my 4 HBs that I would want that 4 Dev boxes I would have to get.

Phyrxis, I am collecting a whole Company plus we actually play a homebrew ruleset and codeci so all the weapons have a use unlike their GW counterparts. But I only intend to have 2 MMs and 2-3 PCs in total(I got an extra PC from a friend when he got some Ork stuff off e-bay). I got 2 Long Fangs boxes to get the stuff I currently have since it was $20 AUD cheaper over all and I didn't need to get MLs from the store since I am ordering them from Battlewagon.

Judging by the picture (as seen HERE), the new Dev plastics look basically same, except that the Missle Launcher guy reportedly now has a backpack with a missle-loading servo arm. The more subtle differences are visible in the heavy bolter ammo feed, lascannon sight positioning, and more plasma cannon vents.

Supposedly the new plastic Devastator sprues contain eight heavy weapons, including two heavy bolters, two missile launchers, two lascannons, one plasma cannon and one multi-melta.

Well, if you?re having problems with the arms why not just ignore them. I'll explain if the arms do not want to fit properly then just shave down the part of the torso that the arms attach to. Start off by just 1mm on both sides, until you get to the point that the arms fit on properly. It may also be helpful to shave off any chest design that is on the model no one will see it and it will just get in the way.

Elusive, thanks I failed to notice that too. I was to busy vomiting after seeing the Librarian. And whilst it would be a great idea that the box contain all that I highly doubt it since it IS actually a good idea and well GW and 'Good Idea' are just not things that mix. Plus if it was true I honestly wouldn't be suprised if the box costed something insane like $80 AUD as opposed to the current $65 AUD. Though considering I have already bought the 2 boxes of Long Fangs it makes sense that the universe would kick me in the gut like this so I really don't know what to think.

Death Wing, its not the torso thats the problem or the arm being to long its that the angle that they have put the eblow in is on that the arm and hand on the HB will never meet up in a realistic angle if sitting flush with the torso. And if you level the HB so it is pointing parrallel to the ground they don't meet up at all. However your idea has given me an idea. I did try sizing up a plastic Bolter (Left) arm to see if i could make it fit. It was a little akward but if I shave it down like you suggest I think it might work.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Those plastic/metal hybrid SM Heavy Bolters are a nightmare to get together. In fact, so were the Plasma Cannon and all-metal Multi-Melta that I have. The Lascannons were the only ones I got together with any ease.

I suggest using a different arm, and cut it to size.
