I was rereading the deepstrike rules last night and I was wondering what happens to a unit that scatters onto an enemy unit. The rules say that they are destroyed.

My question comes in do they make contact with the unit or are they destroyed without making contact as they never enter play?

Any model which cannot be placed because of an enemy model within 1" is not put into play.

So how would that work with spore mines? Would they explode or would they just not come into play?

Spore mines have their own specific rules.

I dont have my codex in front of me. Do the spore mine rules say that they explode if they deepstrike onto an enemy model?

So after reading the spore mine rule which states any time a spore mine is reduced to 0 wounds they explode. So given that if they drift onto a friendly model they are never brought into play and never reduced to zero wounds they don't explode correct?

What if a unit deepstrikes and lands on a unit of drifting spore mines? Are they destroyed or do they land and detonate the spore mine?

Can you D.I.G. it?

Spore Mines are models. They have specific rules that allow them to Deep Strike onto enemies, Enemy Deep Strikers have no such rule.

So if a Deep Striking model cannot be placed more than 1" away from a Spore Mine model when it arrives it would count as destroyed.

I personally think it would be more fun to have them land right on the spore mines and let them detonate as they land! In fact I think it would be hilarious....

Perhaps that is exactly what happens, and in a desperate attempt to not land on the Spore Mine the marine loses control and smashes his head into a nearby rock.

yea I thought of that too. Either way the result is the same!

I like to be able to laugh during a game! Is why I started by playing Orcs and Goblins for Fantasy back in 5th ed.

Can you D.I.G. it?
