Thanks all. Good to know the pallet idea is useful to some.

@ Desubot: steal away.

More colouring in.

Both the Razorback and Dreadnought are done (but not dusted).

Also managed to get the edging and lenses done on the Inquisitorial Rhino.

I realised I'd forgotten to attach purity seals and things like that on it, so looks like I've still got those to do, apart from that there's only the tracks left to paint before chipping, dirt, soot etc.

Tape, and lots of it!

I'm aiming to hit the airbrush hard today.I'll have the Inquisitor's Rhino finished as well provided the humidity doesn't ruin my varnishing.

Pics to come later.

Rhino is finished ... finally.

Whine reviewing the rest of the force, I realised I've not finished the vendetta, I'd gloss varnished it ready to oil it but must have been distracted by a squirrel or maybe a change in the wind direction... lol.
So as of yesterday morning it looks like this:

I've since sprayed a bit of dirt around the struts and rear door as well as added some heat effect around the nozzles of the lascannons in the same manner as the Red Scorp.'s dreadnought in a previous post.
In case anyone is wondering about the cockpit canopy, I accidentally got some gloss varnish on it when spraying (overspray) which ruined the transparency, so I primed it and badly airbrushed it. And that after the effort of painting the interior and crew.

I started on the oils yesterday but ran out of time, I will probably only have time to try and fix my screw ups before they dry in place too much today, so it'll have to wait until next weekend to finish.

Cheers all. OMN.

Finally finished both armies, bit of a slog at the end. Big update.

Firstly Apologies for the rubbish army shots, I don't have anything or anywhere suitable to take images of such large subjects. Both these armies are 41 power level (PL). All my armies from now on will be of that PL, its an odd number I know but 41st millennium (shrugs), points it's something like 600 - 750, which is a fine size IMO for small games, means I can build small armies that try and get the "flavour" of the faction without powergaming etc, also I'm not as likely to get bored building them.

Red Scorpions:

Some close ups of the 'pod

Loads of overspray, especially over the yellow ... nvm.

I think I could have done more on the heat scorching since I'm painting on a dark grey/ black surface it's not as easy as spraying black over whatever, I tried to copy the same method I used on the razorback's lascannons, which is to first spray a bit of VMA Dirt, followed by VMA Hull Red before VMA Black grey and finally Black, I went over the black in places with another layer of black grey, partly to highlight but also it gives a more natural look.
I could have made the heat scaring a bit more obvious but maybe in the 41st millennium they have really good paint that doesn't just burn off on atmospheric entry.

Inquisition:

More pics of the Vendetta:

I even added the door guns.

Some close ups:
The inquisitor with the arco-flagellants, death cult assassins and two acolytes.

Two more squads of Acolytes:

And a stormtrooper squad:

The plan for the army is that the two squads of acolytes with plasma & meltaguns rides in the Valk, where as the inq & co. that he's pictured with sit in the rhino, the troops in this army are basically glass cannons so that was the key reason to adding the melta boxes to hide them in. The storm trooper squad, I like as it can pump out a fair number of shots and is quite flexible in it's deployment.

If anyone remembers I had an Idea to make some nearly true-scale space marines from some of the new primaris parts, whilst I was applying decals, oils etc I finished him off, the base wants painting so I'll add it to the pile the next time I paint some up.
I do have a second marine, armed with a power sword and bolt pistol to paint as well some time but he hasn't had his legs etc sculpted over.

Whilst rummaging around I found some Bretonnian archers from back in the day, with a bit of paint on them I now see what really nice model they are, one of them seems to be a misscast as he is missing a thumb... you can fire a bow without a thumb but, I may have to sculpt one on. I've been painting these for a while now, just one colour at a time over a few weeks, they are nearly finished, the main thing to do is add some static grass on the bases.

They were also a chance to try a different painting technique, the red started as a dark blue, built up a red-pink.

What else is there ...

Oh yea, next army projects
These are on the construction pile:

There are also 5 Imperial Fist breaches to paint up to make up a 1k ZM force, soon..

Thanks for getting this for,
#OMN.

Indeed it is a 'cron, there will be more...

Thanks Doc.

Not done much i the way of physical modelling, been working on designs for buildings instead. Even so I've managed to get a few more Necrons walking and managed to get the black base coat on the fists breachers.

The breachers were all primed white and the yellow was airbrushed so I have to take my time painting the black into everywhere, before I can paint over it.

Necrons are surprisingly fiddly, especially when you are trying to re-arrange their legs. The lower legs don't look quite correct, they look a little bow legged so on the next one I make I'll try switching the lower left leg onto the right leg etc.

That's all for now.

OMN.

I quite liked re-posing the basic necron limbs. Easy to find where to cut and they can be glued back on pretty much at any angle. Very little need for any putty sculpting to fill in gaps such as you get when re-posing marines, for example.

Good work.

Yeah repositioning the legs make them look 20 times better.

Personally I went and used a heat gun to reposition the legs.

it works though it melts a bit so sanding is required.

on the plus side you can reposition each one in like 1 minute.

my shields are a pain to where the sun shineth not. I will not be making more of them.

I've got a bunch more Fists put away waiting to be assembled for another day.

Thanks to some wise words from Dr H I've got the tarpaulins on the pallets, so they are ready to paint now, its just tissue paper cut up dipped in watered down pva with a bit of black paint mixed in.
They are loaded up with a variety of junk including bits from the IG vehicle accessory sprue (since it used to come with every IG tank you bought) and some 1:35 german grenade & panzerfaust boxes.
This brings me up to 7 loaded pallets to add detail.

Also been getting to work on some not quite forgotten additions to the Genswick.

I need to touch up the green as I mixed a bit too much white into the top most airbrush highlight, so I'll have to go over it with a shade or two lower.

The plague bearers for the nurgle army, that I've had for way too long, have also found their way onto my desk a few nights back, they were just primed grey and given a zenithal spray of white, so rather than airbrushing them (as planned) instead I'm ttying to build up layers with glazes starting from the lightest colours and working my way darker.
So far I've applied a heavy glaze of VMC dark blue grey, Citadel rotting flesh and VMC off white. next came a wash made from the Citadel Wash Gryphonne Sepia. All of this was mixed with Vallejo Glaze medium which also acts as a drying retarder as well as water.

Yes one of them does have a balloon, its the unit's icon and will be painted candy red.

Next on them will be to either airbrush or use more glazing to add a purple-ish blending to red-ish patches around the swollen limbs and around the burst interiors/ wounds. Follwed by more washes to add depth etc. I'm hoping that doing them in a batch like this will mean I get them finished quickly.

The 10 necrons are nearly built as well, i'm leaving one in the classic 'cron spreading position. With the arrival of a copy of Forgebane I've got all I want for the army.

True Doc, very true.

@Desubot: I've had some "interesting" moments with a heatgun before, might just pass on that.

Cheers all.

Great stuff. Nice Fists, vibrant and awesome looking. Crons are awesome, and can appreciate the hard work you put in on that. The pallets are spot on, like me some scatter. Plague bearers are looking fab, but as always it's your armour that steals the show bud, beautiful big guns.

Keep meaning to ask are you still selling bits?

Great looking yellow army.

Good job on the tarps.
When you come to paint them, try to keep track of what's the inside and outside and paint them different colours, it helps to sell any folds you have made (if you have made any).

Other than that, just a dry-brush is good enough to pick out the detail even in tissue.

I've done a bit more on the plaguebearers, turns out the glaze malarkey is pretty quick, especially with a hairdryer to hand.

Firstly laying down two shadow washes of diluted Sepia, followed by a glaze of dark fleshtone, purple and off white.

I then went sort of nuts and ploughed through them rather quickly.

These do have a way to go still, but I'm really not happy with the swords, so might try stripping them and either imitating what graven has done on his deathguard and try using powders, or just try building up from an orange wash, with successively darker shades in patches.

Also finished building the warriors:

For the Necron colourscheme I've been thinking of immitating this scheme used on images in MajorTom11's gallery:
Spoiler:

Suggestions on the colours?

Thanks all.

@Cam: The armour is a bit of a slow burning project, I'm hoping to get some more done on them tomorrow.

@Dr H: Thanks for the tips, dry-brushing sounds like a good idea, there are a few folds, not given thought to painting them until you mentioned it .

@whalemusic360: Cheers, chopping up and re-posing the arms so the shields and guns would fit together was frustrating, especially the mk3 arms. Some of them have weird poses because of it.

Theo, I will work on my calligraphy, just for you.

Yea Graven that's the idea, I really don't want to use metallic paints on this so I've been looking for examples and if I don't go towards beige maybe more of a grey white? Like the helms of the Red scorpion sergeants.

I've been thinking about going for black joints, with a bit of rust to contrast the bright green that I plan to use.

I may have started building more tanks, completely by accident you understand.

I had the plans already drawn up and decided to run out a few designs on the cutter (which all it really does is score the plasticard, still, measuring and marking takes the longest time) while I was airbrushing.
Left to right: Malcador, Chimera, 2 hellhounds / devildogs.

I like how the Malcador has come together so far, the only issue I'm having is with wheels,

To anyone reading this, I'm looking for 3 baneblade hull demolisher cannons, if you have any spare and you can part with them, then I'm interested, PM me.

Plaguebearers may well be finished now. This brings the model count for the nurgle army up to 40, 12 remain. The army list is:
Spoiler:

Plaguecaster

Blightbringer
(both from the Dark Imperium box)

5 plague marines: 2 plasmaguns, plasmapistol, plague sword
5 plague marines: 2 blightlaunchers, plasmapistol, plague sword
(these both need to be finished converting from plastic HH MKIII marines)

30 poxwalkers (plaguezombies that I've shown over the years)

Nurgle herald

10 plaguebearers: plagueridden and icon

this uses up models and bits that I already have and total 41 PL

For the plaguebearers swords I tried sponging multiple shades of orange on them, but wasn't too happy with them, so covered them in MiG powders, I may have overdone it however.
Before:

After:

I can always remove some with an old dry-brush, I also went over the eyes with Tamiya clear yellow and added some to some of the open wounds.

For the deathguard marines, I'm thinking:
- black prime.
- paint the armour with rust shades,
- use chipping medium ( I would also be tempted to use crackle medium as well but I don't know what I've done with it)
- paint over that with a sort of dirty white - offwhite layering up, remove chips.
- add rusting with washes, with streaks, and building up layers over all of the armour, roughly following dsteingass's tutorial.
- paint armour edging dark brown - light brown then add verdigris in as realistic manner as possible
- mutated fleshy bits will be painted in the same way as the plaguebearer's flesh.

@graven: Hmm not sure I like the sounds of the blue, I know it'll work with the orange from the rust, but I'll only be using rust in small amounts and it'll probably be a deeper red (representing much older rust) and mostly applied to the light greys near joints.
The green that I'm looking at using is VGA / GC scorpion green, and its going to be quite dominant on an otherwise fairly grey scale model, with weapons, eyes and the chest symbols using it.

Also I was trying to save blue for another army which will be shades of green -> blue through turquoise.
Anyway, I've got the Overlord primed and ready to use as a template, when I get my paints through. I don't know, I'll probably change my mind.

The Breacher squad is outstanding mate, for me its not the great yellow, but the way you did the black and the shading in the metals, all very special. And the basing is top notch !

I don't think the tank is shaded too light at all, once weathered it will look awesome. I generally go a lot lighter than that and blend it back with the oils. I meant to mention that on the grey on your Inquisitor transport.

I paint my plaguebearers much the same way, I think they look great !

Top work matey !
