Hi guys,

I was looking into building up my space marine army, currently only have a few space marines and some terminators.  Intend to build my own chapter and do quiet a few conversions.  I figured I'd buy big and either trade or sell the leftovers to get the bits I want.  What I wanted to know was what sets yield the most in not only usability to build my army, but very good trade value to get other stuff I want.  To give you an idea of where i'm going with this, below is a list of stuff I'm defineately getting.

Battle for Macragge  -  Need it to play as we've been playing modified space hulk rules and adventures which is why I only have terminators and a few space marines.  Also heard the pieces can be sold off relatively easily and come close to breaking even while retaining the books, dice, and templates.

Grey Knight Terminators - To be modded into standard terminators for my army cause they just look cooler.

Grey Knights in Power Armor -  To be modded into special characters like apothecary, librarians, sergeants, etc.  Prefer to stay away from characters without helmets even though I will have some in my army just for variety sake.

Two Army boxes? - This is where I need help deciding, I plan on keeping an army in the 1000 point range but will be playing a smaller type army on up to the 1000 point range size for about the next 7-9 months.  After that time as a group my friends and I will probably expand our battles.  Then I'll probably buy another army box to pilfer for what I want and trade/sell the rest.  As you can see I need to choose the best sets for their value.  I will also be combining what I buy with what 2 other friends want.  Altogether we should have enough to order $500 retail and qualify for the 20% discount as well as an additional 5% off at a certain online store   Your thoughts and suggestions are welcomed.  Thanks!!

You won't get the Army box unless you can find a hobby store with old stock still on the shelf (doubtful after 2 years)

Unless you're thinking of either the Battleforce or Megaforce box

The current Battleforce is pletty blah. The previous one (which had the Command Squad in it) was much better for extra (sellable) parts.

The Megaforce would probably do ok, but I haven't gotten around to actually picking one up yet.

What did the old Army Box have in it and how much did it cost retail? there is one place I know of that may still have it. I have to agree that the current Battleforce box doesn't seem like a very good deal for tradeable stuff. Think I'll get a Mega Force Box for sure though. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Fort Campbell

I remember they old army boxes used to sell for $200, and they held something like a full 1500pt force, if not 2000pt.

That was back in 2nd Edition at least... the way GW is now, something like that would probably cost $500.

The Army Boxes are currently released each time a new Codex comes out. So the Marine one came out with the Codex 2 years ago. They didn't do a Black Templars one, although they did do a Web-bundle instead which wasn't too bad.

The Marine one included a Commander, Command Squad, Limited Edition Veteran Sergeant, Razorback, ten Marines, ten Assault Marines, six metal Scouts, one Attack Bike, and three Bikes. Not sure about the price elsewhere but it went for AU$400. So should have been somewhere around the US$250 mark, I think.

And actually, after a quick google, it would appear that there are still some stores that have them... or at least, that have them listed on their online stores. That admittedly doesn't always guarantee that they actually have it...
