Yes it's that time of the year again when we light our Kwanzaa candles and put up the Festivus Pole and stop to reflect on they year that was. And pick the best and worst of the last year in miniature games. What do you pick for the following? Best GW plastic set? Worst? best GW metal model? Worst? Best GW rule book? Worst? Best GW fluff book? Worst? Best non-GW model? Best non-GW game? Best model you made? Biggest hope for 2007? Biggest fear?

Best GW plastic set? Eldar War Walker/Tau Pirhana (tie)
Worst? Space Marine Scouts (at least the heads were terrible)
best GW metal model? Chaplain in Terminator Armor
Worst? Chaos Possessed Marines
Best GW rule book? Eldar Codex
Worst? Wargear Book (many items now updated {Tau, Eldar}, errors that cause confusion)
Best GW fluff book? Horus Heresey Novels
Worst? Not sure
Best non-GW model? PP Death Jack
Best non-GW game? Warmachine
Best model you made? Eldar Autarch on Jetbike w/ Laser Lance
Biggest hope for 2007? See more FW stuff going plastic and Apocalypse living up to the hype.
Biggest fear? $100 for a single model to coincide with Apocalypse/Still having to play against soda can/ash tray drop pods b/c GW still won't produce a non FW model.

Correction: Libby in termie armour. Its a tie between the new Eldar Warwalker or new Wraithlord New empire Termie Libby Power armored Librarians. Eldar I beleive chapter approved is the worst .... because they havent made any! Xenology Warrior Brood Hmm...good question. I have to say that I am particularly fond of Hirstarts new spaceship interior molds. Pirates of the Spanish Main! Without a doubt! Its a tie between my termie apothecary or Adeptus Mechanicus Dice Tower. The Dice Tower in action: That GW pulls their head out of their collective asses long anough to see that the future is not based on porsche, but on making the product more widely available, not matter what price they choose. That GW wont pull their heads out of their collective asses and will go belly up.

I may misremember what was 2006 and what was 2005, if so mea culpa. Best GW plastic set? I'm pretty sure the skaven plague monks were 2005 or even 04 but they were the last set that really excited me. The wood elfs were nice though. But they may also be too old. The plastic buildings could be in the running but again you get so little for your money and half of them are ruins anyway. A good idea but very limited in its uses. Worst? Sniper scouts. Poor value for the money (5 for $20+??) poor sculpts and no real posability. Alternately, the $10 dice sets, I mean WTF? best GW metal model? The Space Elven Space Pirate Prince is a stong contender here. So are some of the Wood Ground Elfs, the Waywatcher lord for example. This may be the year of the Elf. Worst? The surfing elfs on birdies are very silly, so is the dragon with little putty men on it. The dragon is like $1 gazillion so I have to vote for that. Best GW rule book? Worst?Have to pass, I only played 1 game this year. Although the wargear book was a bad idea and I mock anyone who paid good money for it. Best GW fluff book? I didn't see any good ones. Of the 2 GW novels I read the 1st Horus Heresy novel was read-able. OH wait! There was a newish Dark Future Book Route 666 by Jack Yeovil (aka Kim Newman) that was awesome roxxor. Worst? Gotta go with the last Horus Heresy art book, 2/3 of it was story (mostly reprinted from other books too) 1/3 thumbnail sized reprints of trading cards. I was unhappy. The Dark Future book Golgoltha Run was nigh unto unreadable. Best non-GW model? Pegasus hobbies gothic buildings, you get about 5x as much stuff as GW's buildings and they're so darn easy to assemble! See mine here: http://www.pbase.com/kidkyoto/terrain Best non-GW game? Star Wars space minis! Best model you made? My buildings were so much fun. So were my SWAT team Catachans. http://www.pbase.com/kidkyoto/swat Biggest hope for 2007? More companies making multipart plastics, which is pretty much my biggest hope every year. Biggest fear? More of the stealth price hikes that give us $20 for 10 (or fewer) plastic models.

Best GW plastic set?
None from any faction that I have any huge interest in, but I'll say the Wraithlord.. it is just a nice looking model.
Worst?
SM Scouts.. though the snipers are acceptable.
best GW metal model?
Jump Pack Chaplain, or the new Terminator Librarian
Worst?
Possessed.
Best GW rule book?
Cities of Death
Worst?
In terms of layout and editing only, Eldar.
Best GW fluff book?
The Horus Heresy series.
Worst?
I think it came out in 06.. Warrior Brood.
Best non-GW model?
This is super tough... but I'll go with 'The Reclaimer' from PPS, or the 'Drakhun' from PPS.
Best non-GW game?
WARMACHINE: Superiority
Best model you made?
Hard to choose... currently, I am really pleased with all of my Protectorate of Menoth minis, as well as my Leman Russ tanks for my IG army.
Biggest hope for 2007?
Lower GW prices, better sculpts, more Protectorate love from PPS, Dark Angels turn out to be good, Orks get what they deserve.. a good codex.
Biggest fear?
Dark Angels turn out to suck, GW prices go up.

Best GW Plastic set - Wood Elf Dryads. Glade Riders would have won if not for those horrid half masks. Honorable mention for the surprisingly sweet Eldar War Walkers, the BfsP Gobbos and the WHFB Giant. Worst - Just about everything else, but especially the horrid SM scouts that would be even be rejected from the Rob Liefeld school of crappy sculpting, the new Empire plastics and Dwarven atrocities in the BfsP set. Boo on the huge missed opportunity with the Wraithlord also, though the kit itself isn't necessarily bad (or good). Best GW Metal model - Eh... uh... (scratches head some), I'd say the new Harlies, but they don't get released until next year... um... probably something in their LotR line, as it's pretty obvious that is where all of their sculpting talent has been lately. I'm really at a loss here. Oh, snap, I just remembered! The Vostroyans! Those were pretty sweet. Way too expensive though. Worst - Where does one start? The ridiculously mis-proportioned chaplains, the hilarious Autarch, the comedic Chaos possessed and all of the really awful wood elf sculpts in metal, from the surfing eagle dudes to the awful dragon. What were they thinking? Then there are Jes's vanity re-sculpts of aspect warriors that look nearly identical to the figures they replaced. What the christ? Best GW Rule book - Cities of Death because it at least got me interested in wanting to play 40k again. Too bad GW killed off the vet crowd. Worst - WHFB v7, an ode to using rules to drive profit instead of a solid, enjoyable game. Best/Worst GW fluff book - I wouldn't have a clue where to start as I generally find these books worth less than the paper their printed on since the content is usually barely more than average fanfic with some recycled art. Best non-GW model - Anything with the name Rackham? Really, there is so much to choose from it's impossible to list one. The new Titan Dragon of Aarklash is mouth droppingly incredible, as are the upcoming figures for the AT-43 game, particularly the human infantry and power armor suits. Even if pre-painted isn't your thing, the sculpts are excellent. Reaper has released several excellent ghosts/wraiths for the Warlord line amongst many other excellently sculpted figures. Best non-GW game - Flames of War v2. Talk about awesome. They upgrade the rules to a second edition and what do they do? Give them out for free to anyone that owned the previous ruleset. Free. And not just some .pdf you have to print out or a black and white mini-book, but a full color book. Sure, it's the smaller A5 format, but you get all the rules you need, including all of the scenarios and their special rules, in full color. For free. And the rules themselves are excellent and tighten up a bunch of confusing loopholes in the old set. Best model you made - Building 120 zombies out of a mix of GW's zombie, Empire militia, state troops, spearmen (from the old big red box), and other various bitz, and then painting them. Biggest hope for 2007 - Tom Kirby and co. get the expunged from GW like the cancerous growths they are. The caveat being that allows the company to make positive changes to turn the company around, particularly eliminating it's animosity towards it's veteran customers. and squelching the corporate culture of arrogance and fanaticism that feeds said animosity. Biggest Fear - Kirby takes the company down in a flaming blaze of "glory" that sees a decades old institution smashed apart or snapped up by an even more soulless corporate megalith (ie: Clicky Marines!).

Best GW plastic set? - The new Night Gobbos. I'll have to start an OnG army just because of those. Worst? - I'd say the Sniper Scouts best GW metal model? - Again, I fell in love with some of the new gobbo bosses. None specific I can point to. Worst? - Ah, the possessed? Best GW rule book? - Cities of Death, made me want to play 40k again. Worst? - Can't say I've been really disapointed with any. Best GW fluff book? - Woah, I'd say Horus Rising if it came out this year; otherwise the complete HH artbook. Worst? - Uh, dunno, anything by C.S. Goto? Haven't been able to finish any book he has written yet... Best non-GW model? - Does FW qualify? If so, the new GUO. Otherwise, i'd vote for Rackham's female dwarfs. The one set of figs which (finally) made me chose a Confrontation faction to start playing with! Best non-GW game? - Dunno, haven't really played any. Horde maybe, demo I've seen seemed interesting. Best model you made? - There are so few to chose from, would be my new IG general (will eventually appear here) Biggest hope for 2007? - New 40k Orks Biggest fear? - New 40k Orks : just look at the new WHFB orc boss kit, those heads are so bad I can't understand how they could decide to keep 'em. Let's just hope they don't scrap the ork line, and that they finally update the vehicle range.

Best Non-GW Model: I can only really comment on Forgeworld, so it's the Traitors Conversion Pack. Best Model I Made: Definitely my Tau Commander. I'll definetly post pics of all my models soon. Biggest Hope for 2007: Orks/Tom Kirby and gang being shafted Biggest Fear: Kirby bringing a Stalinist influence to all of GW

Best GW plastic set? - I really liked the War Walkers. The Wraithlord and the Dire Avengers are runners-up, though. Worst? - The plastic BfSP Dwarves were a bit underwhelming, but the Marine Scouts... I want a new squad of Scouts but NOT those... best GW metal model? - TheArmy Box Autarch looks really good to me, but the upcoming Termie Librarian looks good, as does the Death Jester... Worst? - The chaos possessed. Horrible. I laughed at them. Best GW rule book? - Cities of Death. Worst? - Didn't buy the Wargear book (ha!) so nothing much really... Best GW fluff book? - The Heresy art books looked good... Worst? - No idea. Best non-GW model? - Don't keep up much here, but the Dire Troll from Hordes is an awesome sculpt. Best non-GW game? - Hordes or Warmachine. I always think about trying it, but my limited time keeps me from buying an army and trying it out. Best model you made? - Biggest hope for 2007? - New 40k ork plastic sets, codex. Biggest fear? - they botch the orks somehow making them less appealing than they were when Nelson was in charge, and the codex just stinks.

Best GW plastic set - Dryads, Wraithlord as runner-up Worst - BfSP Dwarfs, Scouts as runner-up Most Overrated - BfSP Night Goblins, though they aren't bad per se Best GW metal model? - Ork Kommando Nob, Waywatcher Lord as runner-up Worst - Chaos Possessed Most Overrated - Nurgle Daemon Prince Best GW rule book - Wood Elves, finally giving an old lingering army new rules Worst - 7th ed. WHFB, as cited by Nyarla, though it thankfully didn't change too much Best GW fluff book - Xenology, which I'd still like to pick up Worst - Most of the $$$$$ paperbacks, I'd guess Best non- GW model - PP's Legion of Everblight Carnvean & Shredders Best non- GW game - Urban War is the closest I've come to starting a new game, so that one Best model you made - Converted ogre butcher Biggest hope for 2007 - Getting grad schools sorted out and applied to, getting my Chaos army painted at last Biggest fear - Not having a permanent job, and that they redo the plastic orks ala Fantasy ... - Boss Salvage

Best GW Plastic Set: LotR Scout Uruk-hai - the only GW plastics I have bought for 2 years now. Worst: BfSP Dwarfs, run a close second by the LotR Wood Elves. Best GW Metal Model: "Mad" Galadriel Worst: CSM Possessed Best GW Rulebook: Pass Worst: LoME - 50 errors and counting... Best Non-GW Model: Anything by Rackham Best Model I Made: Pass Biggest Hope for 2007: Ever more GW "fanboys" realise that you can buy cheaper and nicer models and better games from other suppliers easily accessible on the internet. Biggest Fear: Kirby finally realising that his "lets rape the masses" business model won't work with ever-increasing prices, but too late and GW crashes and burns.
