http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/aeroimp.htm Check it out! Preorder now for relase 2nd Jan! Yay As well as being a very interesting game in its own right I'm seeing that this is going to be a great general reference book for Forgeworld aircraft, especially with regard to colour schemes and background etc. these sample pages are lovely.

I'm confused. Is this "game" supposed to use the 40k scale models or the Epic Armageddon scale models?

Epic scale. If you look at the other pages of the preview they show the models. It could be interesting. The only major problem I have at this point, since rules aren't available to tear in to, is that it seems like some of the factions are woefully lacking in options whereas the Imperials have quite a few. Tau versus the Imperium looked like the only fair match up in terms of strategic options. Fleet ships would be BFG, not atmospheric dogfights. The Harridan and gargoyles are the only ones I can think of that the tyranids have that fly, and I'm not sure the Gargoyles can fly quite that high as they need the Harridan to drop them off. They could work them in I'm sure. Maybe a mission where the Imperial player has to try and take out Harridans before they can drop their payload of Gargoyles off. Something along those lines. If it does well enough I'm sure they'll make more craft and another book.

Epic Scale models. Although, I imagine if you have a basketball court to game in, you could use your 40K scale models. I'm psyched about this game! I'm hoping it's as smooth and fun as Battlefleet Gothic. I just put my order in for book and flyers. If it doesn't work out...well, I still have some cool models for Fighta Bombas over the Sulfur River.

Ouch, $70 just for the rulebook and $2 per base? I know this is Forge World, but that feels a bit steep...

The idea of the game is cool. I mean, who wouldn't love massive dogfights and air-battles? There's massive potential there, IMO.
At the same time, the game isn't really accessible for the average person. As much as I think it would be fun to play, having to order every model from forgeworld definitely limits my willingness to buy into the game. Glancing over at forgeworld's prices, seeing a price of 10 pounds for 2 chaos craft quickly deflates my enthusiasm.

Its getting us ready for the 40K battalions addition getting ready to appear very soon. The redshirts at the local shop are spouting off about this one getting ready to come out early next year. All of the FW stuff is going to soon be in high demand.
You will soon be able to call in air strikes frome three tables away, and possibly play on the local gym floor.Of course this could be a very bad thing. Just be sure to reserve the court.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

If one's looking to cut costs on the game, most of the AI models are available in the epic range. You get 3 metal Fighta Bombas for $15 as opposed to 2 resin ones for $19.95. Or 4 Bakka pattern thunderbolts for $22 as opposed to 2 for $23.85ish. The regular flyer bases I'm sure can be modified with some careful cutting and use of counters. The catch is, you're limited to Orks, Eldar, or IN.

I was excited about this when I first heard about it but I really don't need another reason to spend more money on a new line of ForgeWorld models. It does look interesting though. I like the 'top cover' mission idea of supporting a landing of troop ships.

I herd this 1 guy playtested the rules and he got left ear cancer! This other guy looked at the rules and then his dog dyed! And the guy who loaded the truck got ran over by zambonni the next day! So I wont by it.

Check out the photo at the bottom of this review of FWs Epic Lightning. Perhaps the SG range aircraft could still be used for the game, but it doesn't look like there'll be any mixing and matching within the Wings.

Hex bases eh? It is a while since I have seen those from GW ? it must be getting on for 20 years in fact. Fortunately I have some lurking in a box somewhere and you can still buy them from EM4. More likely flying bases than ordinary miniature bases though. No problem there either. Everyone except GW seems to use these ? and even they used to.
I am interested even though it will likely be a dog. I quite like the aircraft but really they are ridiculous looking. Far too expensive, back to the Great War or some more modern setting to satisfy for desire for an air to air combat game. One good thing about it though, no biplanes to glue together, I hate those with a passion. On the other hand one of our group is a sad GW fanboy and might be prodded into buying it...
