Wow. Thank you. I consider that high praise indeed. I am happy with how my painting has improved, but there's always room for improvement aND looking at stuff like yours helps motivate me.
So this is the state of paint on O' ot as of this morning, I think he is going rather well, going with the same muted colour scheeme with just touches of bright tzeentch colours.
The wings are the main area that i havnt even touched yet, they are going to be rather time consuming I reckon.
Of course he is nowhere near finished, but I will keep you updated, If i get him finished I may even take him along to warhammer fest for golden demon in a couple of weekends, he has no chance of winning anything but I guess it would be good to have tried to enter.
This is amazing and creepy. I could not sleep at night with that on the shelf.

So I have taken a bit of a break from Oot, but hope to get back to him fairly soon, in the mean time i have only had small hobby slots, so have been doing some quick experiments. I bought a cheap coffee blender and have been using it to blend spices to use as cheap basing alternatives, here are the results, I think they look pretty good, and when combined with other techniques will look even better still.
Anyway i thought you guys might enjoy this as an idea:

Those make for some seriously realistic looking grassland!
Bet your mini's smell lovely too
My concern would be if they'll fade or discolour with age, being organic. Had any thoughts on that or how to prevent it?

@ San - not yetm thats one of the nice things about them though, they barely need it. maybe just a wash and varnish to limit the smell
@ Possumcraft - Thanks, I have tried with just a light dusting of satin varnish and that is pretty good at entombing the smell as well, you honestly wouldn't know to sniff them (however weird that would look) and as for the discolouration I have thought about it, I very much doubt it will be an issue, these spices are already dried for exactly this reason to help preserve them, and with the varnish I think they will be pretty robust, I know people who commonly use seamoss to make scale trees and they havn't had issues with discolouration over the span of decades, but ill leave them in a warm humid place and let you know in a couple of years
@Whalemusic - I think in combination with other things at least, something to add to the arsenal as it were.
@Heretic Tom - hahah, I'll take that at face value and ignore the creepy undertones
So just a small update today, been working on the base for Oot, which i have to say I have enjoyed alot more than Oot himself, it sounds strange but I am struggling on such a large scale, I keep finding my hands get in the way and the painting chipping off and the task of keeping the same level of detail on such large spaces is exhausting, i'm not happy with him but I will probably call him done tomorrow regardless so I can move on to something I can get a bit more enthused about.

Absolutely stunning mate! that first image looks so good, it's like an illustration from some weird fantasy book! just has so much to take in and explore and the balance between all the parts is spot on perfectly executed, the tiny hint of red with the bloody fingers and the frame of icy blue works wonderfully, it all puts me in mind of something i'd expect from a cross between Pan's Labyrinth and The dark crystal. you are an exceptional hobbyist and an inspiration to all of us, thanks for everything you show us!

Amazing blog man, love those minotaur constructs and pretty much everything else as well.
O'ot is badass. I didn't like it at first but I think it's literally because he creeps the f**k out of me! I think he looks like some kind of ancient monster, something that would fit in the Witcher world, that made a pact with Tzeentch for intelligence/mega powers

@ Nerdfest - Ooh nerdy, the pans labyrinth connection leads well into todays post, remin you of anything?
@ San - Thanks man! The photography was very kind to the paint on the wings to be fair.
@ Boss-salvage - *hearty high five*
@boundless - Thanks very much! glad you like the minotaurs, they are some of my favourites as well. Glad you came round to the Oot concept too!
So a small update for you Dakka, I have been busy making some suitably creepy minions for O' ot, as NErdy pointed out pans labyrinth is influencing this project quite a lot as you can probably tell from these pink horrors, hope you enjoy:
