Nice work.

The bright orange is a nice contrast to the pale skin. So long as it's not uniform (as rust is rarely all one tone across a surface) it's not a problem.

I had the plans already drawn up and decided to run out a few designs on the cutter (which all it really does is score the plasticard, still, measuring and marking takes the longest time) while I was airbrushing.
Left to right: Malcador, Chimera, 2 hellhounds / devildogs.

I like how the Malcador has come together so far, the only issue I'm having is with wheels,

To anyone reading this, I'm looking for 3 baneblade hull demolisher cannons, if you have any spare and you can part with them, then I'm interested, PM me.

Plaguebearers may well be finished now. This brings the model count for the nurgle army up to 40, 12 remain. The army list is:
Spoiler:

Plaguecaster

Blightbringer
(both from the Dark Imperium box)

5 plague marines: 2 plasmaguns, plasmapistol, plague sword
5 plague marines: 2 blightlaunchers, plasmapistol, plague sword
(these both need to be finished converting from plastic HH MKIII marines)

30 poxwalkers (plaguezombies that I've shown over the years)

Nurgle herald

10 plaguebearers: plagueridden and icon

this uses up models and bits that I already have and total 41 PL

For the plaguebearers swords I tried sponging multiple shades of orange on them, but wasn't too happy with them, so covered them in MiG powders, I may have overdone it however.
Before:

After:

I can always remove some with an old dry-brush, I also went over the eyes with Tamiya clear yellow and added some to some of the open wounds.

For the deathguard marines, I'm thinking:
- black prime.
- paint the armour with rust shades,
- use chipping medium ( I would also be tempted to use crackle medium as well but I don't know what I've done with it)
- paint over that with a sort of dirty white - offwhite layering up, remove chips.
- add rusting with washes, with streaks, and building up layers over all of the armour, roughly following dsteingass's tutorial.
- paint armour edging dark brown - light brown then add verdigris in as realistic manner as possible
- mutated fleshy bits will be painted in the same way as the plaguebearer's flesh.

@graven: Hmm not sure I like the sounds of the blue, I know it'll work with the orange from the rust, but I'll only be using rust in small amounts and it'll probably be a deeper red (representing much older rust) and mostly applied to the light greys near joints.
The green that I'm looking at using is VGA / GC scorpion green, and its going to be quite dominant on an otherwise fairly grey scale model, with weapons, eyes and the chest symbols using it.

Also I was trying to save blue for another army which will be shades of green -> blue through turquoise.
Anyway, I've got the Overlord primed and ready to use as a template, when I get my paints through. I don't know, I'll probably change my mind.

Thanks Doc. Unfortunatly I might have gone a bit overboard, I just tried to rub some of it off, but I think that because I've applied it over a matt varnish the pigment particles are permanent. I'll try cleaning some off with some white spirits.

I could try mixing some oil paint with the white spirit and lightly brush it on like I do with an oil wash which will discolour the pigment at the least.

@monkeytroll: Good to see you paying me a visit after so long
.

@BigH: I wondered where I'd got that Idea for the plague bearers from.

Thanks, I've taken to painting all my black like that now ... as if I wasn't a slow enough painter already!

I have noticed that since I started airbrushing my painting has got a lot lighter than it used to be. But I just thought the lightest shade on the tops of the earthshakers looked a bit blotchy, I've fixed it now and am currently putting of doing the edge highlighting and chipping, now I've got the decals on them.
They'll get a good oil wash mark my words on that.

Right so I've given the plague marines a go.

All I've done is the chipping so far, I'm not sold on them so far. Managed to break the spiky bell off while scrubbing the paint off.

I got my Vallejo rust washes through! Quite happy with them. I tried them out on a test piece yesterday. This is the neatest side btw, rest is more rushed and generally looks bad. As I say I was learning as I go.

Maybe they'll be able to salvage the plague marines.

Whilst doing so, I some how managed to flick my brush on the gun barrel of one of the earthshaker carriages ... Only noticed earlier while I was spraying that part with gloss varnish ...

... this isn't going to be easy to fix.

But at least I can work on putting some oils on them now hopefully in time to get some matt varnish on them when the weather is a bit better. Then they will finally be done.

Working on the turrets, not sure which vehicles to give the extra gun sights to.

Also I was thinking of using this bit from the old russ turret on the hellhount types, since my original devildog had one on.

Spoiler:

If anyone is wondering what the tracks would look like:
(hellhound top; chimera bottom)

And for the malcador:

Id made the hellhound ones ages ago and they have been sat in a box waiting.

I really shouldn't have built these tanks, why do guard armies have to take up so much space damn it.

Thank you all for your kind words.

Light grey on the necrons?

They might be a bit bright and in need of a tone down also the colour change is too subtle. At least weathering will show on them.

I've run out of the old GW road wheels so no more tanks like that. I am working on making some using plasticard for the malcador, which is ...fun. I should have enough tracks at least.

@graven: Good idea! I'ts a better idea than what I usually do to cover up screw ups which is to patch over it as "battle damage". Somehow don't think that would quite work on the gun barrel of a long range artillery piece.

At least the necron's will show weathering if thats the way you're going, it could actually work quite well. The way I paint I always find its easier to go darker than it is to go lighter for some reason.

Shame about the tank wheels, perhaps cast up some 1/35th scale tank wheels and save yourself the plasticard nightmare of circles....

Fun with corrosion:

I've nearly got these finished now but I dont have any new pics yet. I had some trouble with the rust washes flowing everywhere, the only place I really pulled off the effect I wanted was the back packs, nvm. I bought some VGC verdigris but it's way too white for most of what I was looking for, so I still had to mix a wash of my own....

The Earthshakers and the tank destroyer are finished, didn't take any pictures of the destroyer, but here's the arty.

Tank wheel problem solved, only made it for one side, a few alignment issues but otherwise a solid construction. On to the sponsons next! Thanks to Big H I have some weapons to put on them.

As the arty and destroyer are finished, I thought I'd move on to some other vehicles that have been sat, base coated on a shelf for far too long.

All I've done recently is fill in the black areas and start on the metallics. I might paint the non armoured sections of the body metallic for a change, it'd be much quicker than highlighting all that black. I'm planning on painting all the weapon arms & shoulders black (so no legion specific colours) so they can be used interchangeably since all the arms are magnetised between the elbow and shoulder two two on each end can have their load outs switched between 2 multi meltas, 2 assault cannons and 2 fists.
The FW one in the middle is magnetised but will be armed with a plasma cannon & fist.

I'm looking forward to getting these painted.

A while ago Cam asked if I could post a pic of all my genswick, so here you are:

There are a few additions, and loses since I last posted the army up, I sold off the demi-company of leman russes, really I didn't need them, so I was happy to see them go.

Some of that foamed pvc landed on my desk the other day, fun stuff, I finally have something to use to base and advance with some shelved terrain projects.

'Crons ... still light grey, they have been sat for a while now whilst I try to pick a colour to go with them. Nothing if off the table atm. Purple might be interesting. Not sure how I can pull off green.

Thanks all.

@Big H: The problem is usually getting the right size, but 1:35 are good.

@ Johnny: damn right it would.

@Dr H: Thanks, me too

@Cam: Thanks mate. good to see you stopping by

Seem to have forgotten to post an update...

Death guard characters are done, I should really touch up the bases as they look boring and i'm not really happy with how they turned out but anyway, onward to the plague marines!

I'm fairly certain there is a weak point in the tabard bit on the fight side, you can see it's discoloured from me breaking and re-attaching a number of times.

Here's what my idea for the malcador sponsons looks like, and yes it does rotate, but not up and down unfortunately:

To make a defender I'm thinking of basically this but a second gun facing backwards so like the female WW1 tank types (all heavy bolters naturally), to go with the above malcador "male".

@graven: That just so happens to be one of the paints I was using.

Thank you all.

Your plasticard fu is pretty damn awesome dude. I like you chappies, may I suggest an easy solution to the bases is grimy washing - even just paint water? Or, for a bit of extra zing, a couple of blobs of Nurgle's Rot, a couple of Typhus corrosion, and then again, liberal wash of dirty paint water that's allowed to dribble and gather and run the tech paints together.

I like the tank noodles ! But for me I’d go for a larger turret somehow, the one you have on just seems too small to me , dunno

Made in gb
Mysterious Techpriest

True it is too small, which is deliberate. It's to imitate the large interwar tanks which were generally designed to have smaller turrets, with lascannons in the turret it'd only need space for a gunner and the commander.
That and it matches to general profile of forgeworld's malcadors.

One thing that is missing is more crew hatches for escaping etc. Ah well adds to the grimdark.

I've had a go at a test for the Necron scheme on a warrior, all that's really missing is to paint the axe blade on the weapon, which might be a warm but muted brass / gold.

Cheers all.
